I know that just as well as you, but someone who hasn't topped 18 points in 5 years as a pro (including the AHL level) kind of "is what he is" at some point. Can Gauthier be an effective 4th liner and PK'er at the NHL level? Of course, you can argue he already has. Can he take some jump and become more than "just a 4th line player"? History would indicate that, no he can't.

I just fail to see what Freddy Goat would bring to this team that we don't already have honestly.

You got the wrong player. Aragorn is talking about Julien Gauthier from CAR. I like Gauthier, but don't know if I'd pay the price of Balcers and Davidsson.

Well that changes my whole damn argument, lol.

Apologies @aragorn !

Still disagree with the premise, but it aint as crazy as calling Freddy Gauthier a future top-six guy

yeah that’s a big ripoff. One or both of them will end up better than Gauthier.

I want Ottawa to trade for Kovalchuk and grab Spezza so we can at least have the #1 and #2 draft picks from 2001 if 2020 doesn't pan out the way we hope.

Pretty sure Dorion could find a way to have the top-two picks in 2012 as well if we wanna go down that road

Isn't that what people said about Nick Paul & Logan Brown?
Nobody ever said Logan Brown would be a slow 4th liner.

I wouldnt give anything for Nick Paul. He’s a nice story but easily replaced.

Pageau is going to get us a 1st and a good prospect

If we trade him.

Could easily see Dorion buying high on Pageau by overpaying for him on a big long-term deal.

Should let some other team make that mistake and take the assets, but Dorion has never been a guy to manage his assets well.

Yeah, he will probably pull a Zack Smith on this one if given the green light to spend.

We didn't give Pageau term at high money the last time around.

I doubt we do it now.

I could see us offering a long term deal in the 4.25M range, which he will turn down. He will get 6 or more as a free agent.

I'd rather have Pageau signed and a second acquired for Tierney than Tierney signed and a first acquired for Pageau. Particularly since I don't think the cash savings between Tierney and Pageau will be that significant. Pageau is a link to the community and to sens of the past and he's a Habs killer. He's more valuable here than elsewhere.

No he is the anti asset manager he simply hates leverage. Almost as much as he hates side burns.

If the sens arent trading Pageau they need to trade Tierney. Someones gotta go to make room they have too many players and they should not be sending L. Brown or Chlapik down.

2020 1rd picks are going to carry a trade premium. Maybe we focus on an org's past pick/prospect pool or 2021/2022 picks. Lots of teams will be upside down in the standings a few years down the road.

Behind you, look out
Trade Pageau now before the bubble pops and he comes back down to earth.
Trade him to Pittsburgh for Poulin and a conditional pick.
The pick gets better if they go to the SCF or he re-signs there.

Stone did return a first. Brannstrom is a first round pick.
This is not the same thing. You are basically saying that we sent a first round pick (Lazar) to Calgary for a guy named Kevin. Did we also sent a first round pick (Ceci) to the Leafs for Zaitsev?

We traded Mark Stone for a prospect and a 2nd round pick.

Brannstrom was worth more than a 1st at the time, though. His pedigree made him more of a sure thing than a late first round pick. Pretty sure any GM would take Brannstrom over a late first rounder.

If any team offers a 2020 1st for Pageau, I think you got to pounce on that.

Agreed. Having three 1sts in this draft would be HUGE.

In those scenarios a 1st is way more valuable than the player being traded. In Brannstrom's scenario, his value was much higher than a Vegas 1st
