Hey Hemsky83, so I noticed you've been working pretty hard to create a narrative where Letang isn't actually good, but you're skipping the very important question.

"Would Kris Letang Make the Oilers blueline significantly better Right Now and going forward?"

The answer is Yes, without question, Don't Ignore that in favour of the narrative.

http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showpost.php?p=68063863&postcount=35

Letang would instantly become the Oilers most impactful defenseman. #1 PP guy who probably will play a 1b role with Petry in terms of ESTOI. I see Petry Smid racking up the heavy shutdown assignments while Letang will get second pairing duties with primary offensive minutes at ES (something JSchultz isn't ready for yet).

"waah waah narrative blah blah blah".

It's good to read/think before you post

Lecavalier has to be an option right now for Mac-T. Talented big-bodied C's are at a premium right now - and he would instantly legitimize our 2nd line. MPS-Lecav-Yakupov would be reliable in all situations, and a great possession line for O-zone TOI.

It also frees up Gagner for use as trade bait.

since tamp is dumping vinnie i woudl assume they will be drafting barkov?

For sure. If col takes McKinnon and Florida takes drouin, barkov is 3rd, Nashville has a heck of a decision to make. This might be their only chance to draft a skilled forward and they are loaded at defence.

It is going to be an exciting Sunday

add int he fact that RNH may miss part of the season and the probabilty of horcoff being gone adding a veteran C as good as Lecav is would be a complete no brainer. I dont think it is a matter of do we want him, more like does he want us.

Lecavalier will get 29 offers. So we'll see where he settles. If his dream is to play in Quebec and finish his career in Montreal, it's a fait accompli. Montreal is also closer to the Cup that Edmonton.

Montreal can sign him for 3 years at 4M per season without any fear of salary consequences.

Does Vinny and other players with NMCs have that as an option? Decline being picked up?

From Dreger this morning....there is interest in Horcoff, a trade will likely happen but the Oilers will need to keep a chunk of his salary
Just out of curiosity, if a trading team retains salary it means actually paying the player money, not just retaining a portion of their cap hit, correct? I assume they pay the player too, but am not sure.

I know people want an upgrade on Gagner as 2C.... but come on. He outscored Vinny this year, and likely will next year too. I would love a bigger 2c than Gags, but an ageing offensive guy isn't better than our 23 year old who still shows signs of improvement. (not trying to turn this into a Gagner discussion again... just saying Vinny isn't the answer)

Vinny is Jarome Iginla in center form. And i'm pretty sure most people on this board would love Iggy

He won't sign in Quebec for the same reason other big ticket free agents don't. It will cost him a lot of money:

Montreal isn't close enough to the Cup for that even to factor in the decision.

Montreal was able to convince Price to sign long term.

Kovalev signed there. Gionta, Cammelleri, Cole...

Lecavalier could definitely sign there. Montreal, with Lecavalier and Galchenyuk 1-2 at C, along with Max P, Subban, Markov, Gallagher, they are a strong team.

Vinny has a Cup. He has cash. If he want to finish his career in style, some playoff runs in Montreal would be a great cap off to his career. I suspect he would have some strong interest in signing there for 2-3 years.

And that's only after the mayor of Montreal takes his cut.

Unless Vinny has some expensive habits we don't know about I doubt tax rates will be anywhere near the top of his priorities. He wants to play in the East afaik. I would guess playing for a good team would be enticing as well.

He just got paid money isn't going to be an issue for Vinny. It's what he wants to do.

Does he play elsewhere for one year and go back to TB, then maybe money becomes an issue.

Does he want to start a new chapter and put TB behind him, then money is non-issue.

What's also extremely funny about that chart is where the Rags are on there.

Horcoff to Dallas with the Oilers keeping 1.5M in salary, is a likely scenario. Dallas needs some C help, including a no.3 C (Fiddler is more ideal as a no.4)

I can see Horcoff to Dallas for a draft pick (4th round?) and mid-level prospect at the draft.

My relationship with the Oilers is abusive.

Man, Lecavalier is going to make off like a bandit and be the highest paid player in hockey. What an amazing time to be bought out, in such a weak UFA market. Lucky *******.

I would love Vinny on the Oilers. He'll probably go to Montreal or something though, sign a long term deal and be bought out for the second time.

Would love Fiddler guy is a major workhorse fought tooth and nail to make nhl with borderline skills, would be perfect for 4th line.

If people thought like this, there wouldn't have been two lockouts in the past 7 years and the Oilers dynasty team would have stayed together to win the 1994 Cup in Edmonton rather than New York.

His buyout money would also be subject to Quebec provincial taxes.

So Vinny has a no movement clause and will exercise his rights to decline to go on waivers to be bought out. Good for him.

Edit, will still be bought out as far as I know.

Watch Florida come in and underbid everyone because Vinny wants to stay close to home.
