Coburn is a RD - wouldn't do much when he's playing behind Petry as 2RD (as would Letang IMO) and leaving Schultz with limited minutes on that side.

I'm talking a solid LD - guys that when paired with Petry would produce a legitimate top pairing.

Off the top of my head - Phaneuf, Edler - hell maybe even Brian Campbell.

This would leave Smid to baby-sit J.Schultz in a 2nd pairing role - one Smid would excel in. He barely kept his head out of the water on the top pairing last year.

To be a + defenseman on a team as bad as the Oilers, while playing some of the toughest minutes in the league - Jeff Petry is ready to prove he can be part of a solid top-pairing - he just needs the right partner to shine.

I swore i thought that Coburn played the left side which is probably why the Oilers are supposedly interested in him. I don't think they would bring him in to play on the 3rd pairing behind Petry and J. Schultz.
If the Oilers could do a swap of 7 and 11 with Coburn coming this way and little going the other way, that would be golden.

Back to Vinny, if TB buys him out we sign him, could we trade him back at the TDD?

I mean couldn't our story be that we were waiting for RNH to get 100%?

Everybody and their farm team is going to be offering Lecavalier huge moneybags with term. I bet he signs with someone for almost as much as he was making already, for almost as long.

lol, please guys just stop on the Lecavalier front.

There's a better chance of Christopher Pronger returning healthy and demanding a trade to Edmonton than Lecavalier signing here.

I remember reading during the playoffs that PIT wanted better handling puck dmen. So what I recall is that Orpik was the most likely to be moved (instead of Martin). I know we are looking for puck moving dmen but I'd love to have Orpik here.

In all fairness I don't care which one it would be.

Although i think it would be a mistake to move Orpik. I do suggest Martin because he's so up and down. At 5mil can PIT afford him to be a 25 point d-man?

According to Dreger the Leafs have decided they are going to trade Gardiner for RNH.

Time to expand that center search!

Dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why would a team trade a franchise center for a guy who has problems cracking an NHL lineup?

I love when the market gets flooded. And its just in time for when MacT should enter the FA market with bags of cash. Hopefully teams throw big money at Leclavlier/Horton/Bickell and the guys like Stalberg,Briere,Scuderi are signed for cheaper than they would be

Horton wants 6mil over 5 or 6 years. Do not want that.

Really wonder if we should be pitching something like Potter and Belanger for Jokinen and Martin. Maybe we have to throw some sort of pick in there, but we'd be taking salary from PIT and giving them something they really lacked against Boston and that's a faceoff guy.

If you can believe the TSN article, they said something about many in Pitts org thinking Martin was their best D. If that's the case, they won't move him. If that's untrue, I would be pretty aggressive in trying to get Martin. Jokinen would be interesting for our 3rd line. I don't think he helps in the "be hard to play against" category, but he meets the "have to be able to score more than 1 or 2 goals per season". I'd be wanting Tanner Glass thrown in there too.

I love it (not on the Oil). But for an Eastern conference team who is also competing with us for other FAs (Clowe, Clarkson, the guys I listed before), it means they wont be able to nab those guys as well

I'd be shocked if Vinny left the Eastern time zone. I believe he said as much when there were trade rumors about him a couple of years ago.

I still think the most logical thing for us to do is try sign Briere, draft a center if we can, and trade Gagner for a Kulikov/Gardiner level defenseman.

I know people want an upgrade on Gagner as 2C.... but come on. He outscored Vinny this year, and likely will next year too. I would love a bigger 2c than Gags, but an ageing offensive guy isn't better than our 23 year old who still shows signs of improvement. (not trying to turn this into a Gagner discussion again... just saying Vinny isn't the answer)

maybe we could convert Sammy to LW if we somehow managed to land Lecavalier. top 6 of Hall, RNH, Eberle, Gagner, Lecavalier and Yakupov could be top 5 in the league.

I'm sure that offers to sign Vinny will start at 5m, and go from there, FYI. I also doubt he'd be enticed by 3rd line minutes.

If Lecavalier hit the market, I wouldn't be against a 1Yr/8M+ contract.

You know he doesn't want to be here long, but he could be a decent stopgap till we can get a better plan in place.

Does Vinny and other players with NMCs have that as an option? Decline being picked up?

nielson1260
From Dreger this morning....there is interest in Horcoff, a trade will likely happen but the Oilers will need to keep a chunk of his salary

Yes. They have 24 hrs to waive their NMC and accept waivers. If they don't they can be bought out without going through waivers.

This is the reference for ordinary buyouts. The compliance buyouts work the same

11.8 (c) A no-move clause may prevent the involuntary relocation of a Player, whether by
Trade, Loan or Waiver claim. A no-move clause, however, may not restrict the Club's Buy-Out
and termination rights as set forth in this Agreement. Prior to exercising its Ordinary Course
Buy-Out rights pursuant to Paragraph 13 of the SPC hereof, the Club shall, in writing in
accordance with the notice provisions in Exhibit 3 hereof, provide the Player with the option of
electing to be placed on Waivers. The Player will have twenty-four (24) hours from the time he
receives such notice to accept or reject that option at his sole discretion, and shall so inform the
Club in writing, in accordance with the notice provisions in Exhibit 3 hereof, within such twentyfour
(24) hour period. If the Player does not timely accept or reject that option, it will be deemed
rejected.

Seems logical.

Drouin to Nashville.

Carolina becomes the wildcard...many feel they move that pick.

Calgary takes one of Monahan/Lindholm.

Will Edmonton take Nurse, Nichuskin, or whichever of the C's Calgary doesn't take

If I'm Carolina I'm keeping very quiet and looking to see what I can get from Buffalo for a swap to #8. It is very likely one of the guys I'm thinking about (Nurse, Nichuskin) end up there anyway and I get a free asset out of it.
