I want Hal Gill. I've decided he's the guy that I hope we get. He'll bring that defensive presence we're missing w/o Willie and Greene.

Also, put me on board for Iginla. I'll give up Bernier but they better give up something more than Iginla. Iginla + an extension. If it's only Iginla as a rental, I'm down to give them a pick

I hope Bernier goes to a team NOT in our division next year. The Kings don't want to face him 4+ times a year, IMO. I can't see a trade for Iggy where the Kings don't send Bernier going the other way though, but I hope Dean can pull it off. He would be a great push player to get the players excited for another long playoff run. If we have to give up a lot (Bernier, another roster player not named Richardson, next year's 1st or a high prospect) I'd say no to Iggy.

At this point, assuming we get back at least one of Greene or Mitchell, and in top shape at that, then I'm perfectly fine if we don't do another move this season.

I think most of us are assuming that both guys are done for the year. Time to move on

TG said Greene could be back on the ice in about a week. Also, he was originally only supposed to be out about 8 weeks, which would be the end of March, so him getting back on sklates in a week would meet that timeline. He'd need to get some practices in before getting back in the lineup, like A-Mart did, but we have another 6 weeks or so in the season, so there's still plenty of time for him to return.

As for Mitchell, who knows. TG had mentioned something about Mitchell being possible for practice in a few weeks, but I'm not sure where he stands on that now. I'll let him elaborate further.

It's amazing to me that a guy can have back surgery mid-season and make it back to the lineup. I mean, I know this is a guy who got hit by a truck and did more damage to the truck than it did to him (Jeep?), but wow. I can't imagine Greene would be in terrific shape for a bit--one of the guys biggest assets is his strength and 8 weeks with no working out is rough--but what a boon he would be to our lineup.

Does anyone know what he did to his back? I never heard. I'd imagine there's a huge difference though in recovery from a muscle tear requiring minor surgery and three herniated disks. The back is such a messed up thing, even a minor issue can leave you bed ridden.

I like the idea of Read in the offseason. He would replace Penner and fit under the new cap, plus meets the mandiate of trading with the flyers.

Allegedly a herniated disc, though elsewhere it said two herniated discs. Yeesh.

And Quick's was an inflammatory cyst and a disc fragment.

Both of those sound horrible...I mean, I Sammy Sosa'ed myself with a sneeze and I could hardly move for two weeks. I know they have access to better medicine/doctors than I do, but to come back and compete against other pro athletes at the highest level is outstanding.

I assume there is various degrees of herniating a disc, but yeah, that sounds really bad. I'm surprised he's been discussed as coming back after just 8 weeks. The Kings originally said he was done for the year, then they adjusted that to 8 weeks, so maybe it wasn't as bad as first thought?

Maybe we'll get some info in the coming week. This is where I wish the Kings were a Canadian team, the media would know how long he's out for. If DL didn't want to say, they'd call around to everyone, even his parents like they did with Reimer (as dumb as that was, and no I don't support that).

DL has mentioned on several occasions that we need to move on and act like Willie/Greene are out for the year. Us, as fans, should do the same. Forget about those guys, obviously they're deeply missed but it's time to move on for this year.

Dean said that early in the season. The trade deadline is two weeks away, and whether those two are returning or not is kind of important as far as what the Kings do to improve the team at the deadline.

He said that "HE has to" if they were done for the year we would've seen a media report indicating as much.

Any responsible businessman - or in this case General Manager - should prepare for the worst, and hope for the best. Obviously he has better information than us, but he should work to have the best possible team for the playoffs. From the looks of things that may require an additional defenseman.

Why should we? DL's preparing for the worst, which he should, but we have nothing to prepare for. And based on the medical reports and media reports we have had passed our way, Greene is out until roughly the end of this month, so why would we operate on anything else but that information? Not to mention the Kings haven't shut either down for the season, and DL's comment about prepping for the worst was made something like two months ago, so they must at least be progressing.

I hope that one way or another we get some sort of update on Greene in the next two weeks.

Going around and looking at other forums, it's always amazing how much some fans overrate their players. Wanting a 1st rounder for a third liner but then claiming Bernier is only worth a 2nd. I doubt any business would get done if these people were the GMs

Actually, as others are pointing out ... THAT's NOT what Dean said exactly, you're taking it out of context this way ... Dean said HE had to re-act as IF they are done for the season, when thinking about the line-up and potential trades to improve the team. He's ALSO said ...

Last OFFICIAL word (was 02/27/2013) ...

Meanwhile, Lombardi also said defensemen Matt Greene (back surgery) and Alec Martinez (upper body injury) were on schedule to return from their injuries. Greene is actually ahead of schedule and might be back before the end of the regular season, with Martinez expected to be fit to play “shortly,” according to Lombardi.

Do you guys think Dean has high interest in Andrej Sustr? I don't know much about him but he's a huge defenceman and we know Dean loves those. (As do a lot of other teams)

Guessing Chara 2.0 here signs with the Ranger or Flyers from what I've read, but I'm sure Dean has looked and would have some interest ... just not as much as those other teams would be willing to risk ?

I'd rather we get Danny DeKeyser ... but heck, nearly every NHL team would be interested in both of these guys.

Yes he does per this article:

Among the teams showing strong interest are the Detroit Red Wings, the Los Angeles Kings, the Ottawa Senators, and the Vancouver Canucks. The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Tampa Bay Lightning, whose prospect camps Sustr attended last summer, are also in the mix.

Well, Gaustad got a 1st...

I expect we'll at least take a run at one D-man. Assuming Dekeyser is out (Detroit), then Sustr is the likely next target. The problem with taking those higher end college kids is: A) the money, and B) they usually demand to play in the NHL immediately rather than going to the minors, as it helps burn off a year of their contract. I'm not really sure how, and it may have changed under the new CBA, but last year supposedly that's why Torrie Krug played a few games with Boston straight out of college.

I say DL takes a look at one of the lower cost options, such Shayne Taker if he comes out early, Nate Schmidt, Kenny Morrison (doubt he'll come out after just one year), Chris Castro, Wade Epp, Justin Baker (one more year left), Joel Hanley (also a year left), Brendan Rempel, David Makowski (one year left), Wade Bergman (he's quite small, so doubtful for the Kings), Adam Phillips (one more year left), Mike Boivin, Eamonn McDermott (one more year), Stephen Carew and Greg Coburn.

Outside Sustr, Dekeyser and Schmidt it's a thin year for D prospects, but I think we'll still be in the play for someone, even if it's not one of the big three.

I would never take a second or third liner from Philly, philly is probably the riskiest trading partners considering their style which inflates their players values. random and all but the kings and flyers are bad trading partners in terms of roster player acquisitions. Theyd probably suck on our teams since we don't run and gun.

Wasn't Richards and Carter on their second line in 2010-2011?

I'm talking about their current roster. Richards and Carter are line one material. Their first line is good but their second I'd stay away from and so on. They were a better team before. Now I'd be scared to take any of their over valued players.

But couldn't you say that Bernier's value is being inflated do to the fact that he plays on a defensive oriented team out in the western conference?
