I'm thinking that if the Flames trade Iginla to the Kings, that Brandon Kozun will be the most likely Kings prospect heading to Calgary, along with Jonathan Bernier and another skater. The Kings can't afford to give up another first round pick at this point as they need to start to slowly replenish their pipeline of prospects. They may have to go the CHL/NCAA free agent route to find some talent to add to the Monarchs who could maybe someday become legit NHL players (such as guys like Jason Blake, Steven Reinprecht, Matt Moulson and Teddy Purcell).

Which this? Trade coming or Tyler just got a recall a few days early? Don't leave us hanging TG!

Both?

IDK.

I heard yesterday that TT was heading back to MCH after the weekend but that could have changed after last night.

Other than that nothing really solid that isn't being said around.

The Bernier for Iggy deal is bunk from what I know. At least not as it stands, DL wants a significant return when he moves JB and I had heard that if JB were involved in an iggy deal that it would have include more, allot more. That is solid.

Remember that if a deal is done at the deadline then the player picked up only gets 12 games with his new team before the playoffs due to the shortened season. If we pick up a rential it will have to be for a really great price to us or seen as the single piece keeping us from winning the cup again.

12 games isn't allot of time.

Whether or not we land him and whether or not it's the right move a top six of

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Iginla-Richards-Carter

is probably the best top six in the league. Better than Pitt and Chicago.

Yup, talent distributed at every spot. Iginla on Richards wing is sickness.

Do you think Iginla would want to join the Kings?

If he's sizing up his shot at winning a Cup in the near future, then I think he would. THe kings style would suit him and he'd be a great fit on Richards line.
But I can't see Bernier going anywhere unless there is more coming back and some other deal for a backup (maybe THeodore, FL having a sale)

Hope DL gets the Reghr deal done soon, they need a vet D back there badly. Some of the Buffalo scoops are suggesting that Buffalo wants to lose Stafford and that may be holding things up.
They also suggested Miller and Vanek might be available for the right price since both have contracts up next year. Miller has been burning his bridges in Buff and curious to see where he lands.

You don't build your team at the deadline, you add pieces to make a run or become sellers to start a rebuild in the future. Right now everyone knows we are in need for a stay home D, the price is 2x as high because of it.

Three things:

1) The deadline is 2.5 weeks away. A lot will change for the Kings and potential trading partners.

2) Jeff Carter.

3) Everybody knew the Kings were desperate for scoring; Jeff Carter, anyway.

Lombardi has a lot on his plate with upcoming RFAs (the UFAs are probably a smaller concern), but my suspicion is that replacing Mitchell is what keeps him awake nights.

What if Regehr doesn't want to move? Sometimes people seem to forget that these players are also human beings with families and the such and sometimes don't want to be moved, especially when they have a say with a full NTC, and no I'm not including you in that group just saying overall it seems like people forget these players are also normal people and not just commodities.

I wouldn't be surprised if Regehr refuses to waive his NTC for family reasons.

Not saying I disagree with you but this is a totally different type of deadline then when we got Carter. If we press to the deadline then we get at most 12 games before the playoffs from our new player. So dealing a blue chip asset for a rental
this season either makes no sense or has to be for the perfect fit that will assure us a great shot at repeating.

A hail mary isn't going to cut it this deadline.

If Dallas is outside the playoff picture at the deadline and decide to sell, and assuming we don't want to pay a lot for a high priced guy like Iginla, what do you guys think of going after Jagr?

Likely could get him for a 2nd, and he's still capable of playing on the 2nd line, so he'd give us great depth.

RR isn't the best fit for us anyway. If he came to us cheap then sure give it a shot but if he was going to cost us significantly then I would be happy if he refused.

Not advocating blue chips for rentals. Advocating killing two birds with one stone; adding a veteran presence to this year's group and getting a head start on replacing Mitchell.

In any case, trades at or near the deadline have been and will continue to be for more than "adding pieces for a cup run."

The silly deadline talk is that involving Iginla. That kind of thing does not fit Lombardi's MO, and it definitely does not address this team's needs short term (reliable stay-at-home defense) or longterm (how to replace Mitchell).

I think Dallas would value Jagr's influence on their young guys more than a 2nd round pick, he demonstrates a great work ethic and has a tremendous positive influence on the young stars, Giroux and now Benn etc, look at how Giroux and Philly have been this season without Jagr, he was an integral part there but yes there are other issues in Philly as well.

That team has plenty of role models right now besides Jagr, look at Whitney, Robidas, Morrow, etc. Plus you have to respect a veteran, and I can see Jagr asking for a trade if Dallas isn't looking like they'll make the playoffs. I doubt he wants to end his career not making the post-season, and there's no guarantee he'll be back next year.

Morrow is likely to be moved, I just don't see Dallas moving Jagr.

I would love a Jagr but I think Jagr would end up in the east. Maybe even Pittsburgh.

i was hoping we signed him in the offseason, i'd love him here but i doubt we get him for a second.

I don't really understand your point here.

I wasn't saying that you were advocating the dealing of blue chip prospects for rentals, only pointing out that Carter was a different situation due to the amount of time that we would have with our new player to get them ready/used to our system before the playoffs. Carter had a longer amount of time to adjust.

I don't follow you on the silly deadline stuff involving Iginla in response to what I was saying though the model does fit.

I agree that we will likely need to address a couple areas of need after this season. If WM doesn't return then we will need to find his replacement. We could do that this season but a deadline move will always be more costly then an offseason trade.

I think we are both saying the same things, I must be missing something on your response though. It happens.

Sort of. He better frames the question on rather or not we need Iggy and then how he sees a better fit in Pitts or did until this season.

I think that if we want to see Iggy wear the crown that I would rather see him do so after we picked him up during the offseason. He is too pricey right now and while I like him wonder if he won't be too costly even after this season.

We've touched on this name before, and although he's not considered a big time scorer, another option for the Kings could be Brenden Morrow. He's that Lombardi/Sutter type of winger who lays it all out on the line. Sutter has also talked about the lack of scoring from his left wingers, so I'm thinking that if they bring in a forward, it may very well be someone who can play on that side.

Morrow is likely to be moved, I just don't see Dallas moving Jagr.

I'm just trying to understand your thinking on this. You may be correct, I just don't follow. Why would Dallas hold onto Jagr, whose been a STar for 25 games, and trade Morrow, a life-long Star whose played 13 seasons with the team, when both are UFA's after the season? What makes Morrow less likely to stay than Jagr? Especially when you'd have to think Jagr is likely to leave after the season anyways.

Fair enough. What do you think his price would be?

I'd be down with Morrow, assuming the price isn't to bad.

Because Morrow is on the decline while Jagr is having a great season? Obviously fans aren't GM's but Dallas fans can't wait to get rid of Morrow while liking Jagr and there's nothing that says they can't re-sign him if they want, it's been rumored for a while that Morrow is likely to move at the deadline if Dallas is out, I just think they see the positives that Jagr has on the young guys and may not care about losing him to FA after what he's done for Benn and others, that's just my view, obviously I could be completely off base and wrong haha.
