LA doesn't need Iginla. Especially not at the likely cost of JB and any combo of pick, prospect and/or roster player. Not for a rental. The price is entirely to high. If it is ONLY Bernier going to CAL, then it is still a 1st round pick. As in JB was a first rounder. Add in the fact and expense of years of bringing him along from just a draftee.

They need to solidify the D before they worry about adding a winger for a PO run. This needs to happen first internally with what they have. If this doesn't happen then they look for help outside.

They won the Cup without Iginla. They don't need him to do it again. To repeat they need to improve the D and goaltending situation first and foremost.

Because Morrow is on the decline while Jagr is having a great season? Obviously fans aren't GM's but Dallas fans can't wait to get rid of Morrow while liking Jagr and there's nothing that says they can't re-sign him if they want, it's been rumored for a while that Morrow is likely to move at the deadline if Dallas is out, I just think they see the positives that Jagr has on the young guys and may not care about losing him to FA after what he's done for Benn and others, that's just my view, obviously I could be completely off base and wrong haha.

I don't think great season versus decline has anything to do with it if Dallas is out of the playoff hunt and both guys are walking after the season. You may be able to actually get more for Jagr than Morrow under that logic, which would only serve to make Dallas more inclined to deal him.

And yes, Jagr could resign in Dallas. I'm not saying he won't. But my question is, if you were Jagr, would you resign there? Assuming he wants more than just cash, he has strong incentive to go elsewhere, assuming Dallas is a non-playoff team. He's 41, could be on his final season, and Dallas is no where close to winning a Stanley Cup if they can't even make the playoffs. I'm not saying he won't resign there, but I think the odds are against him resigning there. The guy would have a market in free agency, I expect he will test.

And if you also think they won't mind losing him to free agency, then why wouldn't they want to deal him at the deadline? There's only 12 games or so after the deadline, and about a month in total. I'm sure whatever he has to teach them is taught by then, and that extra month isn't going to make a dramatic difference, especially with Whitney and the other vets still in town.

I'd be all for Iggy coming to LA if Dean could pull it off. Even at the cost of Bernier. I know there were also a lot of people who didn't think Carter was the answer either.

would love to add a veteran presence of Iginla's caliber

and this would be his first change of scenery, it would most likely rejuvenate him and he seems loyal enough to sign him for a 4 year term and have him retire as a King

i would love that idea

I can't tell if you actually think Iginla will retire with whatever team he's traded to or not. No matter what, Iginla retires a Flame. Death, taxes, and Iginla retiring a flame. There just might be a pit stop along the way for him.

Iginla as the vet who got close once but still looking for the Cup is a nice idea. He would currently be a luxury for the Kings though. The clear need is for either the D on the roster to play better, or to add a defenseman in a trade.

Defensemen aren't cheap. You focus on that position though.

In 2010, Lombardi didn't know what he had yet. It was their first time in the playoffs. So he nibbled around the edges with Modin and Halpern. They gave the Canucks a good run, and maybe could've made that series closer than what it ended up being.

In 2011, Lombardi had a better idea of what he had, so he spent a little more to get Penner. Unfortunately Kopitar went down, but the Kings still ended up with a decent chance to take the Sharks out. 3 of those games went to OT. Obviously Game 3 happened, but the Kings were looking at going up 2-1 in that series before everything went crazy.

In 2012, Lombardi had an even better idea of what he had, and went all out for Carter, going so far as to trade a significant roster player in the deal.

Lombardi will do something. Exactly what, who knows. The question, with Iginla or a defenseman, is what is it worth to potentially win consecutive Cups. We know what going for, and ultimately getting, that first one was worth. You always have to keep an eye on the future, but the chance to do two in a row doesn't come around often.

Obviously another huge factor is the status of Miller and Greene. DL will likely base his bigger moves around wether they are returning or not

More than a forward, I'd really prefer if we could get a defender into the lineup with NHL game experience so they can eat up some minutes and take a bit of the load from the pairing of Scuderi and Doughty.

There was an early season interview where Scuderi talked about the challenge of having to handle the increased minutes. If I'm remembering correctly he said it'd be okay for a period of time, but it might not be something he can carry over the entire course of a season. And with Sutter riding Scuderi hard I think the wear and tear is showing with some uncharacteristically bad plays from a guy that is usually rock solid in the defensive zone.

Now they're not sexy names by any means, but someone like Mike Weaver or Ian White who have games under their belt and aren't fresh meat might be a good pick up.

They're guys you'd consider veterans and Sutter might feel more inclined to give them minutes that he'd be reluctant to give to the young kids. It would also provide another right-handed defenseman on the third pairing where we've been rotating an all lefty contingent of Martinez, Drewiske, and Ellerby.

Buffalo is starting to make moves:

The Buffalo #Sabres have acquired a 5th-rd pick in 2013 Entry Draft from the Florida Panthers in exchange for defenseman TJ Brennan

Leino is being re-activated. Buffalo re-assigned Mikhail Grigorenko to the QMJHL.

And that was the Kings' 5th round pick that Florida dealt to Buffalo. Brennan is a minor league dman and former 2nd round pick in 2007 for the Sabres.

Seems like the going rate for depth dmen is a 5th or later pick. Speaking of Ellerby, haven't been very impressed by him. The guy is very rough around the edges.

I'm not sure I see Leopold or Regher as even a significant upgrade though...hard to wrap my head around it anyway

Teubert for Myers! :sarcasm: ....

The same Myers some buffalo fans have hinted at amnesty buying? (obviously wouldn't happen) but he hasn't been very good this season..

Dude is 6'8" give or take an inch and plays with zero grit and physicality, he hardly ever hits people or punishes people in front of the net.

I really think getting a defenseman will be at the cost of forwards which is a scarcity to us. I feel like if we get a good defenseman we are making an average thing a hole. I think it's best to roll with what we have because it's gonna make another hole. Unless we trade a forward from a top 6 Nd let toffoli get in then I guess that'd be okay but I don't see it.

Things hotting up again. I wonder if we make two separate moves.

IF a deal goes down bringing us back a Dman we are going to be overloaded unless we send one back the other way. A Mart is a tough one to lose depending on the return. A big forward and a solid vet SAH would be nice adds as long as DP was heading back. Lots of talk but seems like it is getting allot closer.

I agree with you, but as a last resort we could always waive Drewiskie. If someone takes him it'll be the best thing for his career too.

I think your right. I still see some value in DavisD. I wonder if DL would actually waive him though. I think it would be a right move but DL is a very loyal person and he really likes Davis as a person.

I agree about the thought of possibly losing A Mart. that would be sad for certain and have to bring back a solid upgrade.

What are you reading?? Can you post some links indicating the talks are on? I've only seen one source yesterday or the day before saying things are on. Is there anything new that I missed? What's the latest
