Yeah, if it was Iginla + pick for Bernier I would think Dean would have already pulled the trigger on that deal or at least we would have heard about Iginla being asked to waive his NTC  Can't see it being that easy, they are going to ask us to add and rightfully so, though Bernier would be a good part of the package, shouldn't have to add extravagantly to him.

I wouldn't be upset at all if we end up with Regehr and Iginla for a postseason run here.

I don't know. Bernier deserves a shot. He will not be here next season , nor is he happy here even right now. It's time for him to get his shot. He knows that, DL & Co knows that and you all know that. So we add King and a prospect and maybe a conditional if Iggy resigns with us and it is a terrible idea? nah. To have a shot this year we need Defense. If Mitchell or Green doesn't come back we need someone else. period.

Brown - Kopitar - Williams
Iginla - Richards - Carter
Penner - Stoll - Lewis
Clifford - Frasier - Nolan

Muzzin - Doughty
Scuds - Voynov
Rheger - Scuderi

Quick
aging vet

Trust me guys, I see where I wouldn't want to make the trade as well just based on value alone but I also see how another cup run might be worth losing a Blue Chip goalie that is going to be gone anyway (even to a team that is joining the ol' Smythe next year), a third/Fourth liner, and a prospect.

so tell me, between Buffalo and Calgary who would be worth Bernier, King, Vey, Conditional?

You have two Scuderi's. Dunno if that is the player I would clone. :sarcasm:

Kings get Iggy and Regher and lose bernier, King or Nolan, Vey, +.

Is everyone cool with that?

Not cool
adding extra forwards seems almost pointless as long as the defence looks and plays like it currently does. The PK is not very good. There's too much blown coverage giving up way too easy goals. The number of turnovers in the defensive zone is a big problem. The puck also seems to have a way to get past Quick this year.

We need Mr.Miyagi to come in and heal up Willie Mitchell and Matt Greene more than we need to add another forward.

If the coaching staff thinks Regehr could help out on the PK and clearing the net, then that might be a step in the right direction. But hopefully the price would be more reasonable for just him.

The way it looks now unless Quick pulls his **** together adding anything would be for naught.

We are gonna over pay for defense and lose prospects/forwards and that's what worries me cause it's gonna be expensive. I don't want to lose any more forwards and prospects.

Any other Flames from the 04 team out there that have a date with unfinished business?

Well, we do have Dave Lowry's kid in the system too. Maybe we could sign him after his college season is over... :sarcasm:

Still, seems like the Kings would be the ones to add when acquiring a player like Iginla for Bernier, not the other way around.

Based on past precident I'd agreed, but this is (I think) the first time a star rental would be traded for a young, but proven, NHL netminder as the key piece. So it's hard to compare value in an Iginla/Bernier swap to a deal like the Hossa or Kovalchuk one.

Yeah, if it was Iginla + pick for Bernier I would think Dean would have already pulled the trigger on that deal or at least we would have heard about Iginla being asked to waive his NTC.

One thought I had on the whole Iginla situation is I wonder if in the off-season or at some point this year the management and Iggy's camp didn't just have an informal meeting about things and one side or the other asked Iginla to just make up a list of teams he'd go to this season and let the Flames work out trades with those teams so that if Iginla decided to waive his NTC (which could happen if the Flames fall right out of the playoff picture) it would allow the Flames to deal him very quickly. This would allow Iginla to go to a cup contender (if he wanted to) yet allow him to wait as long as possible for waiving his NTC, while still giving the Flames ample time to work out a trade with whichever team Iginla picks.

I'd rather not.

Has anyone considered that we might be looking into Bouwmeester?

I would consider that strongly if he wasn't also signed for next year at $6.5 million or so. I don't know where we'd fit that into the salary cap next year.

Whether Mitchell comes back this season or not, the club has got to be looking toward replacing him longterm (he's signed for just one more year). If it's the right trade, for the right stay-at-home defenseman to skate alongside Doughty, with the right number of years left to play, picks and prospects are a bargain at twice the price.

I'm worried that we called up Toffoli to add perceived value to him in a trade. Why would you call him up and sit him in the box? Well, maybe because you want to plant the image in another team that he is NHL ready.

You don't build your team at the deadline, you add pieces to make a run or become sellers to start a rebuild in the future. Right now everyone knows we are in need for a stay home D, the price is 2x as high because of it.

Dean always emphasizes the future. He's not trading Toffoli. If he were to be traded I'd be stunned. You add a veteran d-man to this team and it changes it drastically and bumps Scuderi down. That is if he isn't going the other way in a deal.

I've never heard of a team doing this before.

My opinion is that maybe we had a deal lined up that would have sent out a forward and Toffoli was recalled to take his place, but something may have happened to delay that trade by a few days. Did someone go on the DL for a day or two recently that we might have interest in (I'm looking at you Buffalo)? Could be DL is just waiting for that player to get some form of medical clearance before trading for him. Can hardly blame him after the Colin Fraser/Gilbert Brule debacle, not to mention the Alyn MacCaulay UFA signing (and perhaps Cloutier if you want to consider him injured as well when we got him). DL's not had the best of luck with getting guys when their healthy, so having him cleared to play and back on the ice before doing a deal might be an option.

The other option on why Toffoli is up and sitting is that DL was planning on recalling him anyways with this tough group of games this month, but he brought him up a few days earlier than planned after Williams and Richards were both hurt in that one game. DL may have just jumped the gun and called him up immediately, just in case either of those guys were unable to play. Now that he's here, DL may just keep him up since he (possibly) was going to recall him anyways this month.

Just spitballin' here, but that's some options.

If the Brayden Schenn trade showed us anything, it's that if the right deal comes along, DL would trade any prospect. Outside of Doughty, Schenn's been the highest rated prospect DL's had as a GM in LA, and he didn't hesitate to deal him for the right return.

IF DL gets offered a guy that fits in now and will be here for a few more years and is a good value, Toffoli would be gone. I just don't see that trade happening IMO.

Other teams have scouts. I'm guessing other teams wouldn't be swayed that much by such a cunning attempt to trick them on Lombardi's part.

I agree that if the right deal comes along you definately trade Toffoli.

I agree. The Richards trade was a perfect storm. I'm not saying I wouldn't trade Toffoli, but if the right deal came along like you said, I would do it.

This^.

Whether or not we land him and whether or not it's the right move a top six of

Brown-Kopitar-Williams
Iginla-Richards-Carter

is probably the best top six in the league. Better than Pitt and Chicago.

I'm not so sure. The last couple years Dean has emptied the cupboard to aquire pieces in an attempt to win a cup. He has given up top prospects and first round picks.

I was just throwing out a possible scenerio but I wouldn't put trading youth past any GM when winning is on the line.

I just had a dream about that early this morning. Just spitballing too. I hope the Kings hold on to him. They will need lost cost talent soon if they are to have continued success.
