Gaborik has a limited no trade clause. He has a certain number of teams on a list which he won't accept a trade. 104 goals the last 3 seasons. Two 40 goal seasons.

How dare you ask such a concise and suitable question? It takes away the fun of ridiculous trade suggestions.

Let me phrase it another way. What benefit do the Rangers have of trading away Marian Gaborik this season, when the return clearly will not be as productive as Marian Gaborik?

(I know, I know, hes struggled for a few weeks now, so hes garbage).

I'd like to know this too. Doesn't make much sense unless they can somehow get a return that is going to be on his level, which seems unlikely.

Gaborik's been my favorite player since he got here. I hate how he disappears but he continually finds ways to score this team's biggest goals. Minus a few Richie may have had.

There's something to be said for that during the playoffs. Some guys are just worth keeping around even if they aren't necessarily contributing on a nightly basis. I don't think they move him during this season unless they really feel they can bring someone in who can replace what he does, and give a more consistent effort. I don't see that being likely.

Move him in the off-season if that's the plan and things do not work out this year. Bring in the new guys to get a full camp and preseason.

Isn't one of reasons NYR can't score is because so far Gaby hasn't been ?

And moving him for prospects/picks is going to solve that? Any player or piece that we would get for Gaborik won't make nearly as much of a difference as he does yearly for us, at least not until years down the line. That's the bottom line.

If the Rangers trade Gabs midseason it won't just be for prospects/picks.

Cullen's wife did not like NY. That's why he asked to be traded away first time around. RangerBoy posted links supporting that at the time.

ahhhhh I figured it was because he made too much dough............as a rental does it matter though? Not like the family has to go anywhere, he signs elsewhere in the offseason

With the cap decreasing as much as it is, and with core players needing extensions.

For this current season, it would be ideal to add a piece to make a run, assuming Gaborik's poor play doesn't continue.

Which could force the Rangers hand. If Gaborik snaps out of it and the Rangers can add an offensive defenseman at the deadline, that would be nice.

At the draft, the Rangers could get pieces to further secure their future success, in exchange for Gaborik, who will be 32 next year with a year left on his contract.

Keep in mind, though, its been reported on several times since the summer that Sather may trade him.

Not sure why everything has to be black or white. There are valid reasons both for and against trading him.

Brian Boyle, Ryan Bourque 3rd (FLA) to Leafs
Mike Komisarek and Jerry D'Amigo to NYR

Pass on Komisarek. He has no place on the lowly Leafs and while he might be able to fill the 6th defense spot, I'm not giving up anything of value for him.

Gaborik's been my favorite player since hes been here (other than Hank and McD) and I wouldnt advocate trading him just yet. Id be more comfortable doing it at the draft.

I dont agree with Supersonic much but when he said this fanbase doesnt appreciate skill guys enough, he was right and I agree. This NHL you need them. You can have all the grit in the world, its not 1975 anymore.

Anyway you slice it, losing a 40 goal scorer is not something you replace easily, and honestly, I doubt the return or the value we get is going to come anywhere near his impact here offensively. Gaborik is a proven player here, which is the point. This franchise does not have luck when it comes to acquiring skill guys or just having skill in general, so we will definitely be feeling the effects of losing his offensive ability, and I dont think Nash is enough. Richards needs to go just based on the contract alone.

I just cant wait for all the folks that have been clamoring "trade Gaborik!!" to change their tunes to "we need a goal scorer!!" once hes gone.

You know it will happen.

Boyle isnt really that much value. he can be replaced like Betts and Dom Moore was from the past.... if that trade was presented to Sather, i bet he takes it and run... Rangers dont really have a physical dman.. not counting Bickel since he isnt that good.. Komisarek at least can play a regular shift.. maybe a new home would help. worth the risk... Rangers need depth on defense that can play for more than 5 mins a game in the 5th 6th defensive spot

if someone offers the Rangers a first round pick say 5-10 range, Sather should take it.. im sure some team will offer a first round for Gaborik if dealt at the deadline but if they wait till the NHL draft they might receive less or maybe more who knows.. heck Gaustad got Buffalo a first and he was an UFA at the time.. Gaborik has alot more value.

Gaustad was a 1st rounder though because the market then was geared toward overpayment. I remember that.

How do the Rangers plug that hole in the lineup for the rest of this season and the playoffs?

The trade deadline should be enticing, because due to the shortened season, the market may be even more geared toward overpayment, because more teams believe they are still in it. However, a team that you can safely project as having a high draft pick is unlikely to be one of those teams.

I'd be looking for a younger second line forward that is a better fit in our system and more affordable + prospect + pick for Gaborik.
