Why trade one of our best scorers when we're in win now mode? I imagine we'd get something like a top prospect and 1st back but how does that help us win now?

How dare you ask such a concise and suitable question? It takes away the fun of ridiculous trade suggestions.

Let me phrase it another way. What benefit do the Rangers have of trading away Marian Gaborik this season, when the return clearly will not be as productive as Marian Gaborik?

(I know, I know, hes struggled for a few weeks now, so hes garbage).

I don't know, and its driving me up the wall. Such a strange approach.

Well, there's obviously enough buzz about the possibility that its been rumored several times since the summer.

Ideally we add a piece for a run here.

But if they can secure a long-term core piece in exchange for Gaborik, knowing the financial situation coming this summer...its an option.

Isn't Morrow pretty much done?

Curious to see what we could get for Gabby given that, despite all he's done for us over the last couple of years, he doesn't seem to really fit the overall direction of the team. He, along with DZ, both make for very intriguing - and valuable - options that simply seem to be bad fits.

In both cases, however, I would sincerely hope we could do better than simply upgrading our "grit".

Rangers traded Mike Gartner in 1994. He scored 34 goals total that season. Rangers won the Cup. Anderson had Stanley Cup experience.

So a similar kind of thing, if Sather doesn't feel like Gaborik is the guy to get the job done, a guy like Boyle has once before with the same coach with Richards.

Just saying its a similar situation.

Gaborik I get - to a degree. He'll be a soft player no matter what. But 40 goals is 40 goals.

Del Zotto though? Top 4 D-man capable of 20+ minutes and 40+ points? How is that not a good fit? Oh yea, and hes just 22.

Is Cullen out of Minnesota still a descent player? They may be selling. I would like Clutterbuck too.

Cullen
Clutterbuck
for
Boyle
3rd rounder

Completely understand what you're saying and would agree - IF he was nearly as good on the right side as he is on the left.

Unfortunately, he's not. So, the team is stuck with three guys all worthy of 25 minutes a night on the left, but only 60 minutes to divide up. He's worth more to others than he is to the Rangers. So, while I wouldn't give him away for nothing, I'd certainly be interested in the same value (or more) in an area where the team isn't quite so deep.

I see your point, but I dont think its enough to even think about getting rid of Del Zotto right now.

The blueline is an MDZ trade and one injury away from going to a real strength to a disaster.

Here is an interesting idea. This was suggested by an Avs fan, Gabby for Stasny? .
If Rangers really feel Gabby is not part of the long term plans, then I would if they either keep some of his salary or throw in a RD. Boyle would have to go the other way to make the cap work (I think).

Awful idea, Stastny is a declining player. Gaborik produces more points. Deplete our wingers and add a top 6 C to a team that has got 2 top 6 C's, really smart!

Rather trade Gabby for Perry or we could just keep him.

Gaborik for perry straight up

This. Similar production while getting more physicality. Gabby is basically Casper the ghost when he doesn't score a goal here or there. With Perry you get a guy that wear downs the opponents (Like Nash but with more hitting and less dekes), so I'd love that trade.

No doubt. To even entertain moving him, you'd need a defenseman coming back.

This may all be academic until the summer anyway. The team looked flat-out dominant against TB on Thurs. Slats may wait to see if that's the start of a run and, if it is, we'll likely only see moves around the edges at the deadline. Any major restructuring would wait for the offseason.

Listen, I'd love that trade too, but why does Anaheim make it? Simply because Perry is hitting UFA a year before Gabby?

Garroich gets a bum rap at times. Sometimes he is right. I thought his lockout coverage was really good.

One of the best scorers plays the same position as Nash and Callahan. Three right wingers who need to play on the top 2 lines.

It wouldn't happen with the way he is playing, but Vanek would be a tremendous true LW and pp specialist goal scoring replacement for Gaborik.

Maybe . Both teams probably have to agree in principle to extensions / new deals . I'm just spit balling . In all reality can't see it happening . Perhaps NYR make some kind I lateral move with a player coming back with similar term , that is if one even exists .

that would be pretty balzy for both teams........both a yr left on their deals

Buffalo may look to shake things up so its not insane to think it would just be a doozy

Same contract year, similar cap hits.

Vanek isn't quite the goal scorer Gaborik is, but he is a LW and a power play guy.

From Buffalo's side, I think they're more likely to want to move him for a bunch of top prospects, if they choose to go rebuild.

Strange that last year they were lining up at Richards's door thinking they could be competitors with him.

I like the Gabs for Perry idea.. Perry's way better fit here with his toughness..

Gaborik+ for Pavs, Clowe

Gaborik for Vanek would be legit, but He's there only positive this year and remember what they had to give up to get him (offer sheet)... Rather keep gabs at the end of the day..

all great possibilities..def think we should to maximize pieces for gabs to help us overall..

Vanek got his current contract via offer sheet from the Oilers, Buffalo matched.

I believe the oilers then signed Penner via offer sheet.

Honestly I hardly think this even qualifies as news.

No one (or at least no one should) wants to dump Gabby. But when you crunch the cap numbers for this summer and next it is clear something has to give, and a trade will at least allow the team to recoup some value.

I would be a little surprised if he is on the team this time next year. Especially if Sather is 100% with Torts (and there is really no reason to suggest otherwise). Right or wrong I just think the writing is on the wall.

so instead of paying 7.5 mil for 40 goals we'll pay 6.6 mil for 20 goals?

Initially I didnt believe in the idea of trasding Gaborik. I see him as the Free agent signing that acutally worked out well. In addition, I see him as the pure "All-star" sniper that the Rangers needed in order to match firepower of teams like the Penguins.

As this team developed players are sort of finding thier roels/positions with the club.

Gaborik didnt tranistion well to the left side.

But...if he is on the block like Garrioch suggest, whats the point in bringing in another RW in Perry? While I asgree Perry fits the team description moreso than Gaborik does does that mean Nash switches to the off wing? Nash being a Left you would think might work well however he is clearly the teams best player on the Right side. In addition...Perry is UFA next season. Gaborik is signed one more year. Pending UFA Perry for a 2year signed Gaborik is not an equal return. Unless of the course the grand scheme of things is a Richards buyout and A signed Getzlaf/Perry combo in 2013/2104?

Top 6 would then be rediculous...but could it actually work under the cap?
