Boyle is still a good player, but I'm still really leery of acquiring players over the age of 35. Especially ones with additional term on their deal. I'd rather get kids who can grow with the team.

The new CBA changed the waiver rule

Mats Zuccarello, playing for Metallurg Magnitogorsk of the KHL, remains on the Rangers’ reserve list and would be eligible to play for the Blueshirts this season — without clearing waivers — if he were to sign with the club following the end of his season in Europe. That represents a change in the CBA.

The Rangers knew about the change. Sather was quoted in the Brooks article.

The issue is ROR played in the KHL when the NHL season started. That point was never brought up.

Newport had an obligation to tell the Flames. Calgary should have known. They negotiated the offer sheet with the Flames. Did Newport realize ROR played after the NHL season started?

It was Feaster's job to know. But a lot of smart, informed people inside and outside the NHL did not know about O'Reilly and waivers

I like a deal centered around Pavs for Gab...

I think it could work, and Pavs is versatile and can play center and Rw.. Would be a great fit with either Richards or Stepan

Pavs, Clowe for Gabs, mid level prospect, some sort of pick

The Sharks aren't going to move Pavelski. He is also a natural center.

Hey
just a thought. But is there a possibility that the Flames and Colorado conjured up the offer sheet together? Just so Ryan O'Reilly can sign already.

I doubt it. That second year salary is a killer. It makes RO'R's QO salary SO high that he will almost certainly walk away as a UFA in two years (unless he justifies a 6.5+ million dollar salary by then, which I can't see happening).

The MOU states the change in the waiver rule

Article 13

1. Waivers
All Players on a Club’s Reserve List and Restricted Free Agent List will be exempt from the
application of CBA 13.23 Waivers in the case of a mid-season signing.

For further clarity, if Club A trades such a Player to Club B and Club B signs the Player to an SPC,
such Player will be exempt from the application of CBA 13.23.

A team could have traded for O'Reilly and he would not have been subject waivers.

The same applies for Zuccarello. The Rangers could trade him and another team signs him. No waivers. He is on the Rangers restricted free agent list.

You learn something everyday. :handclap:

ROR will still be a group II at the end of his contract. The Avs can't trade him for one calendar year. February 28,2014. The trading deadline is usually around that date. A few days earlier. However,if the NHL goes to the 2014 Sochi Olympics, the deadline will be in March. The Avs can trade him in March 2014. They will have already paid the majority of the $6.5M salary but that's their problem. The Avs could have ROR for 2 years/$8M. They matched at 2 years/$10M.

Wow at Sherman, Feaster, AND ROR's agent not knowing about the waiver rules.

Aren't these guys supposed to know the CBA by heart?

Looking back, it's funny how this board gets hold of an idea and amplifies it to absurdity.
Avs asked for DZ, Sather said No. Most of this board took the Avs' side of the argument and started convincing itself that DZ is worth trading for RoR.
I am glad Sather agreed with me.
:sarcasm:
Either that or the Rangers have not watched RoR play either.
:biglaugh:

Dont forget how O'Reilly would've taken less money to get our of Colorado.

That $6.5M qualifying offer in 2014 is going to be great.

I would still have traded MDZ for ROR. And I have watched him play.

Also, who knows if Sather agreed with you. MDZ was hurt. Colorado was not about to trade for a player who was hurt.

Offer sheet was not available to the Rangers. They have no 1st rounder.
