Rumor: Trade Rumor Thread Part VI: Gaborik for Peanuts

Think Nashville would be willing to do Hornqvist and Fisher for Gaborik?

Would address a serious depth issue up front.

Buyout Richards in the summer of 2014 and use that savings to resign Lundqvist, Cally and Girardi.

Not a deal I would be happy with at all. The Rangers should look for a youngish top-6 forward + top prospect + 1st

NSH:
Honrqvist + Ellis/Watson/Blum + 1st

Or

Hornqvist + Bourque + Ellis/Watson/Blum

DET:
Filpulla + Tatar + Kindl + 1st

OR

White + Tatar + Ferraro + 1st

OTT:
Greening + Zib + 1st

OR

Cowen + Zib + 1st

Those types of deals.

Nashville: Bourque + Ellis + 1st is acceptable too.
Detroit: I'd love to get Tomas Jurco or Calle Jarnkrok back in the deal.
Ottawa: Mikhalek or Turris are also acceptable options

Any idea how serious Hornqvist is injured? I know he's on IR after being boarded.

That only makes sense if X # Y and X > 0 and Y > 0

Otherwise you can have this situation

X=Y
X*X = Y*X
X^2 = X*Y
X^2 - Y^2 = X*Y - Y^2
(X+Y) (X-Y) = Y(X-Y)
simplifying by removing (X-Y)
X+Y = Y.
Which means Sens have to give us double of what we give them

:sarcasm: :naughty: :D

Those two are mutually exclusive. Can't divide by 0.

I like Bourque a lot as well.

Not a HUGE Jurco fan. Jarnkrok I think would be untouchable.

I would like Turris as well. Don't see it happening. Zach Smith is someone I could see the Rangers targeting IF other pieces need to be added from both sides.

Ditto. One of my most hated players. He'd fill a need here though.

Not saying he wouldn't just don't want it to be him.

Not a huge Rib fan but brutal Brads best PP production came with him on the half wall

I would rather not add to the softness of the team with Ribeiro.

Can't see Nashville giving up Hornqivst to acquire Gaborik. They need to boost scoring depth, not upgrade one spot in the lineup. Especially a the expense of a solid defense prospect and a first round pick.

Why do people think the Rangers HAVE to trade Gaborik for cap reasons. :shakehead

Because according to some of the HF Wizards I see around here - coming with very insightful opinions I might add - we will have to match an offer sheet at around 6 M for McD, Pay Stepan 4 M+ and Hagelin 3 M+...
Then - in that rabbit hole - it gets a bit tight I suppose :naughty:

Even in that worst case scenario, being 2 mil under, getting rid of Asham, Bickel and/or Gilroy is the way to go. There is close to 2 Mil right there.

they

will have to either trade gabs or let him walk next year. that money has to go to people who actually play with their hearts. steps cally hags mc d girardi and so on

Out of sheer curiosity, why do you think they don't have to?

They have 11 mil.

I used BBkers table using comparables.
Stepan signs in 2013 for 2 years for $2.5M per
McD signs in 2013 for 4-5 years for $4.3M per
Hagelin signs in 2013 for 2 years for $2M per

That's 8.8M, even if we add a 15% fudge factor, that's 10Mil.

If they need more space, Asham and Bickel can be jettisoned for another 1.75 mil.
That gives them 2.75 Mil of cap space with everybody signed in 2013.

I am not disagreeing with that, but to say they have to trade him for Cap reasons is not factually true. There may be other reasons.

I agree everyone needs to give their all, but heart only takes u so far. Stepan calmly etc I like but both will plateau bw 55-60 points which yes is good production but Gaborik scores 40 GOALS. U still have to have talent

I think that number for Hagelin is short by about $750k, but let's assume it isn't. That leaves us with 12 signed forwards from the current roster, and 6 signed defensemen in McD, Girardi, Staal, Stralman, Bickel and Del Zotto. Since he's cheap, let's keep Bickel for 750k as our #7 D. Who fills the 13th forward and 6th defensive spots? Kreider should get a look. Well, his cap hit alone takes up about half of what we have left in cap space. So we're down to $1.4M for a #6D. Let's go cheap-o there as well and re-sign Eminger for his current salary of $700k. $700k left for call-ups in case of injury? We sure as hell better hope nobody gets hurt. Factor in even another $500k for Hagelin's deal and we have zero room for call-ups.

There's a reason teams don't operate within hundreds of thousands of dollars of the cap. You need to leave room for reserve players and call-ups, and maintain flexibility for trades and waiver movement.

How are you going to jettison Asham? Who wants a $1M player on their books with a bad back? You can banish Bickel to the minors, but good luck finding a 7th D that you can really count on for $750k.

Where is this table of comparables?

Enough with the Eminger/Bickel/Gilroy triumvirate. Spend the $2M on one player. A sound 3rd pair veteran D. In the beginning it was Bickel. Now Bicks is exclusively a forward. The Rangers can't find a better forward? Then it was Gilroy. Now its Eminger. Torts said today Eminger has solidified his hold as the 5th D right now. He wasn't playing two weeks ago. Hamrlik is back in tonight after Schoenfeld kicked his butt in two days of conditioning drills.

Asham can be waived and only count for 100k on the cap.

Smid is a UFA after this year. He's making $2.25M this year.

He has good size, he hits (186 last year), and he blocks shots (184 last year).

If he's available, Sather should check on the price. He could be a stabilizer for the 2nd or 3rd pair for next season.
