Interesting. The agent told Custance the details of the limited no trade clause. Same one Sather gave Roszival and Redden.
Gaborik had dinner with his agent last night.
"I know Marian can go five games and have two goals a game," Wright said. "All of a sudden everyone is fine."
Until that happens, trade speculation that goes back to the offseason is only going to intensify. Gaborik has a no-trade clause that allows him to pick eight teams before each season to which the Rangers can trade him. That list has been submitted as it is before every season.
But Wright made it clear there won't be any request from their end for a trade.
"Marian is a team guy," Wright said. "He's not the type of guy who would ask out."
The problem is, it's not easy finding a trade partner willing to take on that salary. Talking in general terms, one NHL GM said teams moving a contract like Gaborik's should expect to take salary back in the deal.
"It's such a big commitment," he said. "If anything, you're talking like for like. If a guy is a $7 million player you're unhappy with, you may be able to move him. You might get a $7 million player they're unhappy with back."
