Going on a rant here if you don't like it tough ..
If your going to bash a guy like Big Mac and post here about trading him or other prospects then know what side he shoots from.. If you don't know he is a lefty or right handed shot you don't have a enough knowledge to make a accurate trade proposal .. The fan base needs to relax enjoy the team and hope a deal gets done.. I say 75/25 he is staying

I think if Fowler and Tarasenko hadn't prospered the way they did, the McIlrath stuff would be nonexistent and Rangers fans would be more patient.

I don't think losing him for nothing is a bad thing. I'd prefer to trade him though.

I understand it a bit if the rental market sucks eggs that badly, but we're a net seller of draft picks and it's a great opportunity to make some of that ground up if Yzerman's asking for Kreider or Miller (like he should IMO).

Cally's a great professional, nothing has happened to make me think he isn't a great professional, but I just think the situation with his contract will be a bit of a rain cloud over the team if he's "our rental." It's similarish to MSL in Tampa except they're a smaller market, he has an extra year and he's a much, much more valuable player to them.

The way I see it holding on to him/not resigning him is equivalent to asking the question "Would you trade him for 6M+ cap space" and the answer to that for me is absolutely yes. Now I'd prefer to package him for a huge upgrade as opposed to that cap space (MSL) or get prospects/picks in addition to that space as well.

Sather essentially handed Lundqvist a blank check even though he hadn't been playing well up to that point. It wouldn't shock me at all if Sather did the same for Captain Callahan. For the first time, I think Callahan's 7 year/7 million per demand is realistic and it's due all to Sather being delusional.

At this point I'm afraid of Sather signing Cally to a massive contract that I would accept a proposal for almost any picks or prospects

It really is a catch 22. I don't want to lose him for nothing yet picks/prospects don't help us for our playoff run if that is the best off we can get and I certainly don't want him resigned (as Sather would most likely have up'd the offer even more).

And I fail to see a center who can replace him

Since hes not really doing his job, and his contract is an albatross, what is it that we're trying to replace? We haven't had a #1 center in close to 20 years...why pretend that keeping Richards solves problems.

And perhaps more importantly, why is the team so gung-ho to make ANOTHER mistake based on the premise of "replacing" the last one?! The only the thing they havent tried is a plan and some patience.

Hanks contract is high and causing some of this drama IMO. My heart says cally stays .. I just not sure Sather can make it happen

Girardi
Klein
Stralman

Only one leaving anytime soon is Stralman. I'd love for Mr. Righty McIlrath to step into the spot. The problem is, I dont think he can and I dont know if he ever will.

the funny thing is hes 21 years old.. how about some patients? how can you write off such a young player, and one whos playing awesome in the AHL right now.. Dman take longer to develop and the org thinks very highly of him.. he will be here before you know it.. also if we keep signing all these dman long term (Stralman too), we need more help upfront.. cant have all that $$$ tied up, and then have to sign staal long term too..

Cally..

i want him gone, unless he takes an identical G deal.. hes not worth it at all..idc about the intangibles, get me kesler, he fills a need and what we desperately been needing..

sad thing is in the 11th hour he will sign his 6x36m deal and in 3years we'll be hating him..

Callahan hasn't been Callahan since 2012. Even if we had 2012 Callahan, 7x7 is still a horrible deal

Without a doubt, Hank is partially reasonable. The top player on the team forced the team to pay them top dollar isn't of setting a precedent by leaving a little bit on the table, and then maybe everyone following, follows suits. take a year less and 500k-1million short. And it adds up.

Like I said earlier, I think fans are just impatient because of how good Fowler and Tarasenko have been. Some are still bitter we took McIlrath over Fowler.

I fail to see how letting Callahan walk, or signing him for $6 x 6, is not a bad thing. I think it is a very bad thing.

It's gotten to the point where letting him walk for nothing is better than retaining him at the numbers and term being tossed around by either side. At this point I'd be ecstatic with a 1st and a decent prospect for him. Let Miller and Fast fight for his ice time.

Cally around 5-5.5for 4 years is the highest I would go for him. I think it's clear that he is declining and this looks like it could be worse than the Drury deal.

Lundqvist is going to be a Hall of Famer

Callahan is going to be Kelly Kisio

That's a million more than I'd go for. I wouldn't even be comfortable giving Callahan 5 mill. 4 years is the most I'd go though too.

The difference between Hank getting paid what he wants and Cally not getting it, is that Hank has been the face of this franchise for almost a decade now and has dragged this team into the playoffs kicking and screaming in almost all of those years. Cally hasn't done anything to justify 6 million a year.

Callahan hasn't been Callahan since 2012. Even if we had 2012 Callahan, 7x7 is still a horrible deal

Yeah, and last year was a lockout year with no training camp and a lot of turn-over on the team. The whole team looked bad up until the final 1/3rd of the season.

This year he has shoulder surgery, can't train the same, can't take part in training camp. New coach, new system. Teams play abysmally at first. Gets injured again. MZA takes a huge step, pretty much carries the rangers for awhile, and when Callahan gets back, the PP units are clicking and MZA is playing great.

Who's to say Callahan doesn't bounce back huge next year, with the rangers or with the team that gives him the PP time and offensive zones starts etc...

How can people not take the bolded in account?

And I'm done after this. I bet my account here, that callahan doesn't end up signing anywhere for 7x7. those numbers floats were fools numbers. It was high ball put out by someone, to set the market as 6million per at least.

Lundqvist also carried the team for years... Callahan is not worth more or close to the amount players like Toews, Pat Kane, Zetterberg and Chara are making.

I blame these contract demands on Teams that overpay people like Clowe and Clarkson.

If Sather has in fact offered 6x6 and it still isn't happening, it's Callahan that is making it not happen.

i didn't see what you said, but its true way to bitter, we drafted for need why would we draft fowler when at the time we had MDZ (21yrs old) who just put up 41pts and a healthy staal filling that side of his game..

McIrath is very close.. we have to much depth on the right side, so it sbetter for him to get the full year in the ahl. he just scored a sick goal last night, and kicked someones ass again in another fight.. kid has the tools, and the toughness we need on the backend..
