oh yes he has been. Your expectations have dropped based upon what you've seen from him.

at first he was supposed to be the bonafide #1 center who has been a conn smythe winner

and peoples expectations of him having just kept dropping

He's on pace for 60 points this year. Have many have been on the PP. If you were to compare players with similar PP ice-time, (especially teams in the top 15 in PP ratings)

Its the same thing for Callahan and com parables to him. How many 30 goal scorers aren't PP players. You think its average to score 30 even strength goals a season. Maybe callahan's #s have been down this season bc the Powerplay heated up while he was coming back from injury and he hasn't gotten PP time until just recently.

Additionally with Richards, people talk about his point totals from last season, without mentioning the lucky run he had at the end of the season, where he scored like 6-7 fluke goals and padded his stats with a 20 point april.

The arguments here on this board, omit SOO many factors and facts and information.

He led the team in playoff scoring in 2012 and scored two huge goals and set-up another in the Caps series, had an off year last season, and is tied for the team lead in scoring this season.

Gaborik had a 40-80 season in 2010 and they didnt make the playoffs.

The Rangers needed a center in 2012. Argue and curse the length of the contract all you want, but the idea that Richards has been a failure here is stupid.

The Rangers don't go to the CF without Richards. Maybe if players like Stepan and Callahan showed up for the postseason people wouldnt always look towards Richards to deliver every single game.

Richards have been very good this season in so many ways. Stepan in 46 pct on all his draws. Richards is 51 pct. The power play is also 10th in the league. Richards is tied for 10th among forwards in PP assists.

His contract sucks. He doesnt.

Bruce Garrioch at the Ottawa Sun feels if the Rangers can’t get Ryan Callahan signed by the trade deadline, it’s doubtful he’ll be dealt. He adds that the Rangers could then add forward depth through a trade by using draft picks.

This would be awful. Just ****ing awful.

The polar opposite of what the team should be doing.

Good thing that, as usual, Garrioch has his head up his ass, because nothing about that paragraph makes any sense.

I don't know why people believe rentals are going to return anything of significant value, especially someone like Callahan who is not a star and is seeking star money.. baffles my mind.

GWOW i will give you that. Richards played great in the 2012 playoffs. I recently watched that 2011-2012 postseason run via NHL.com game recaps. You can go back to the date of the game 1 against Ottawa and watch these 5 min recaps of big plays and highlights. Richards was a big part of it, no doubt about it.

Agree on your second paragraph. They needed a center, (look, its all the past failures that made me feel this way: drury, gomez, etc) but I thought this exact scenario was gonna play out with Richards. So even though I knew they were gonna sign richards, I wasnt behind it then.

Again, I have to agree that Richards was key in the 2012 postseason. maybe the MVP behind hank.

Richards has been very good in this season in many ways. But he's not a 1st line center. And maybe with a guy like St. Louis, he could rejuvenate his career even more and turn himself into a steady dependable 2nd line center.

But as some have said, would you sign a 34 year old to a 6 year deal at 6.6 million a year this summer?
The day that cap recapture penalty became a reality, so did the need to buyout Brad. Its that simple, its like a situation in your industry of work, where it just can't even be a question. You know, how can they keep that contract on the books, when its now or never to write it off.

Depends on your definition of significant.

Think Callahan could return a cost controlled roster player and another asset. In my mind, thats better value than rolling the dice until July.

If we we're to buyout Richards we would of done it this past off-season but we didn't so we'll still keep him

Why? The team is weak at center and stretching another year out of him was a course of action (one that I didnt agree with, but whatever).

Most importantly, theres the option to do it again this offseason

It's so bad since he's the captain, and a real heart and soul guy, but I really, really hope that tonight is the last night I ever have to root for Ryan Callahan.

Going on a rant here if you don't like it tough ..
If your going to bash a guy like Big Mac and post here about trading him or other prospects then know what side he shoots from.. If you don't know he is a lefty or right handed shot you don't have a enough knowledge to make a accurate trade proposal .. The fan base needs to relax enjoy the team and hope a deal gets done.. I say 75/25 he is staying

If the buy him out, they essentially need to replace him with a cheaper, younger 50-60 point replacement who can run a powerplay and play 20 mins a night.

They need to buy him out for the sake of others, but who replaces him?

Statsny would just be repetition.

If they win the Cup this year or get to the SCF, they are still buying him out.

Bad trend. Sign huge dollars to play in New York, get traded or bought out.

Gaborik, Drury, Redden, Gomez and now Richards.

You cant have an owner with a blank check and a GM willing to spend it. New York has both. Toxic.

Sather is becoming the GM version of Bill Wirtz or Harold Ballard if he doesnt trade Callahan, trades assets for vets and doesnt buy out Richards.

Barf. Can't lose him for nothing. Can't sign him to a 6 year deal. Must trade.

...or, you could approach the situation as if an immediate replacement is not the next move away.

If we re-sign Callahan for anything over 4.5 million, he's going to instantly become one of my least favorite players, sad as it is to say.

Retire already, Sather

Girardi
Klein
Stralman

Only one leaving anytime soon is Stralman. I'd love for Mr. Righty McIlrath to step into the spot. The problem is, I dont think he can and I dont know if he ever will.

Maybe Brassard can replace the point output. Maybe it takes a year or two with brassard getting 45-60 points and within the next two years, the rangers obtain a replacement, draft, trade, FA.

I think its short-sighted to keep Richards for the next 2, when he has 4 years after.

I can compare it again to the Callahan situation. People are deathly afraid of Callahan 3 years from now. What about Richards, and Richards doesn't bring the same intangibles to this team as callahan. Richards does have his own intangibles. Im just saying.

And no I do not want the rangers to bring Stastny in. Not at all.

EDIT: I actually think Kreider playing with Brassard might be very beneficial for both players. Kreids-Brass-MZA could be a pretty sick line with Kreids providing the beef.

At this point I'm afraid of Sather signing Cally to a massive contract that I would accept a proposal for almost any picks or prospects
