Yeah that does scare me too ... but Stepan looks so lost lately.

I'm willing to be patient with Stepan. He's been in the league for a decent amount of time, but he's still fairly young. And he's still a solid player even when he's struggling, because he's good defensively.

Are any of your guys into the Paul Stastny camp? Signing him in the off season, if we let Richards walk? So essentially swapping Richards for Stastny.

You just don't realize that $6M per year is no big deal.

It's not a big deal for the next year or two…. for the next 6 years it's a huge deal. His body might already be breaking down, and we don't need another Drury situation. We would no longer have the option of burying him in the minors ala Redden.

I love Callahan. I have his jersey. However, it's just not smart money management. He's no longer a regular on the PP (with Zucc healthy). He's a good PK guy, but he's far from irreplaceable. 5 on 5 he's solid… I just can't see committing to that money for that time period. I'd be shocked if you and I spoke 6 years from now, and we agreed that it was a smart signing.

EDIT: Sorry, totally misread your sentence!

count me in.. good 2 way player and he will be an upgrade over anything we have currently and I think him getting 1C ice time with Nash and Kreider will help.

You're so full of garbage...Patience??? You wanted him shipped out last year after what 10 games?

Can anyone name a physical, top-six forward 6' or under who maintained his level of play to a reasonable standard from ages 30-35?

I can certainly name a few who haven't:

I made an over reactionary post one time and you hold it over my head like this?

Find someone else to follow around, bro. Or at least respond to my PM if you're going to go that route.

The way Ryan Callahan has played for this team from the first time he took the ice in a Rangers sweater speaks volumes about how much of a team first player he is, and him asking for money which he earned wearing his body down and possibly shortening his career for this team's success will never change that.

Some people have very, very short memories.

I guess Henrik Lundqvist isn't a team first guy, either.

How many people here own Ryan Callahan jerseys? Who made money on that? Ryan Callahan or James Dolan?

Past performance is not indicative of future performance.

We are not paying Ryan Callahan for what he has done. We are paying him for what he will do.

I have a Callahan jersey. I lvoe the guy. But at the end of the day, all I care about is the name on the front. Players come and go. The team doesn't.

I want what's best for the team adn that surely isn't singing a declining 2nd liner to a massive contract.

I've actually been VERY happy with Brassard. I definitely want to keep him around.

What do you guys think Brass is getting signed to?

Also, predictions for the deadline? I think MSL is no longer realistically in play. I think we essentially stay put; Cally doesn't get shipped out. Sigh. I think he's resigned for 6x6 and I'm sad.

Where do you get/make these charts?

I'll say it again the Rangers aren't rebuilding....

You have no issue with Callahan at 5 years and 5M....great.....So what's the big deal paying him 1 million dollars a year more for 1 more year? Really, in the grand scheme of things that's not big deal for what Callahan brings.

It's funny. Everybody thought Prust was overpaid but at least once a week for two seasons people say "we should've just paid Prust"

Just about everybody LOVED the Nash trade. Dubinsky was **** on left and right on this board since the day he held out. Now it's "we lost our grit with when we traded Dubinsky"

If the Rangers trade Callahan it better be to improve the team now. Not take a chance that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN with random draft picks.

What RW depth in the minors? Fast? We have no idea how good he will be. Kristo? We have no idea how good he will be. We know what we have in Callahan. Depth is something most people love but not certain posters. Nope, they just want to see a trade for prospects because prospects translate to hope, it doesn't matter if they work out.

The Rangers can't give Callahan away for draft picks. It's stupid. They aren't in a position to do that. We have a 31 year old goalie. When MZA is back we can role 3 lines. The team should be looking to improve the roster not subtract from it....

But SoS we need a true #1 center. Great, we aren't trading Callahan for that guy. We aren't drafting that guy with a late 1st round pick we would get from a contender.

The Rangers should improve the roster now. Try to make a run this year. Get as much playoff experience as you can get for McD, Kredier, MZA, Stepan, etc etc etc.....We have posters that are always planning for the future but can't fathom how important playoff experience is to our young players. That's more important to the organization than a package of draft picks.

Sometimes I wonder if the fans are just jealous of how much money these players make. Maybe, that's human nature, I don't know.

Everybody hates Sather but if a player doesn't give in to Sather's certain posters cry "what a greedy pig". Who hear want's to get paid less than they think they are worth? Why should Callahan?

Callahan should take the Rangers offer but if he doesn't NOT trading him isn't the end of the world IF another team isn't willing to meet the Rangers demands. I'm sure if that happens on this week people will cry about it.

Nailed it for the most part. I don't agree about signing Callahan, for what he wants I prefer to let him walk. But I'm not trading him for futures. If TB doesn't want him for MSL, then I'm inclined to just keep him and let him walk.

Going back to the topic of trading Cally to the Blues, now that Stewart is gone, would a trade centered around Berglund for Cally work? Not sure what needs to be added, but Berglund is bigger center with pretty good offensive skill

You act like Stepan is going to be easy to re sign.. do we not remember this off season with his play based on half a season?

Do we not recall the circumstances? Sather was pushed right up to the cap, and had trouble fitting Stepan in at a fair bridge deal.

What sounds easier to you? Signing a RFA Stepan - maybe buying 2-3 UFA years - or trying to resign a 31 year old injury prone UFA center man who will be asking for the sun, moon, and stars. I'm not saying that Stepan is signing for the league minimum, but your point is way off base. Rangers still CONTROL Stepan.

I like how Cally at 6x6 is no big deal cuz the caps going up to a trillion but then the same people go oh Stastny typical Sather overpayment

It's a bit different because Stastny is healthier and a center, but I agree overall. Not interested in Stastny at what he'll command whatsoever.

7M for a center who can put up 60+ points or 6M for a 3rd line RW who can't even hit 50? the choice is not difficult.

Me neither, but I'd rather have Stastny at 7 then Cally at 6.

Contracts are given on both past accomplishments and future expectations.

This team cannot think in the past when it comes to giving an injury prone player a 6x6 contract, one who has never been a franchise player.

Injury prone is a subjective claim. Is Dustin Brown a franchise player? A year older than Callahan, $5.8 million cap hit till 2022. Relatively speaking, how much in NHL terms will $6 million be in 3-4 years? In 6 years? How have overpayment contracts really harmed the Rangers in the past, and how will this one harm them?

Maybe I'm the only one that cares, but I think the past is something this franchise should consider, since it has such a pathetic one overall. For once, maybe it behooves the Rangers to compensate a player that has earned it wearing their sweater, than spending that money on someone that hasn't. I have no doubt that should Callahan not be re-signed, the money used to pay him will be gone faster than you can say Stastny or whatever other player Sather will fall all over himself to wildly overpay.

people who block shots and play full out with their heart on their sleeve (something he does do I'll give him that) do not earn 6M a season, players who can score goals and put up points do.

Anyone who uses shot blocking to sum up Ryan Callahan's game is someone who, IMHO, has a very poor understanding of what Ryan Callahan does as a player.

I guess Rick Nash is earning his $7.8 million per, scoring .1 points more per game this season than Ryan Callahan.

Rick Nash has 29 points in 44 games, Ryan Callahan has 24 points in 44 games.

For this teams success? We haven't won a cup since '94

And the best season since 1994? Did you enjoy the 11-12 playoff run? Did you enjoy the other playoff appearances this team has made over the last few years? Because IMO, the two biggest reasons for them were Henrik Lundqvist and Ryan Callahan.
