You have no issue with Callahan at 5 years and 5M....great.....So what's the big deal paying him 1 million dollars a year more for 1 more year? Really, in the grand scheme of things that's not big deal for what Callahan brings
Why not 7x7 then?

And if that's okay, then 8x8 should be ok, right?

I remember after the Gabby trade everyone gushes over Dorsett proclaiming him the next Prust & that he'd be a fan favorite

Color me completely underwhelmed.

I would have no problem adding him to any trade.

It amazes me that non-casual fans who see ever game what player Callahan has become and will likely become even worse is saying we shouldn't trade him. Oh and 6X6 is 11 million more than 5X5, not chump change. Prust at least provided energy Callahan doesn't even do that anymore. Anyone that wants Callahan for 6X6 is doing so strictly off emotion and not logic.

Here's the thing.. Callahan if he was a free agent (not homegrown), not one person on this board would be asking Sather to throw 6 years 36M at the guy.. Too much emotional attachment, that's now how you win championships.

2. Ryan Callahan should already be behind Rick Nash and Zucarello who are both better fits for this system on the depth chart, Nash and Zucc have even started to play on the PK, and they clearly can put up more goals and points than Callahan will. The Rangers will be paying $36M over 6 years for a 3rd line RW because lets face it, even right now thats where he should be with the way he's playing.

My last thing on the Ryan Callahan situation. I dont want to hear any Ranger fans.. (casual or die hards) tell me that Ryan Callahan is a team first player after this ********.. regardless if he signs that 6 years 36M dollar offer.. Ryan Mcdonagh and Dan Girardi are team first players.. They took less money to stay here.

and yes he has every right to ask for it..

The way Ryan Callahan has played for this team from the first time he took the ice in a Rangers sweater speaks volumes about how much of a team first player he is, and him asking for money which he earned wearing his body down and possibly shortening his career for this team's success will never change that.

Some people have very, very short memories.

I guess Henrik Lundqvist isn't a team first guy, either.

How many people here own Ryan Callahan jerseys? Who made money on that? Ryan Callahan or James Dolan?

I don't even want him at 5X5 honestly. He's not a vital cog to this team anymore. That money can be better spent elsewhere.

5X% is the most I'd ever go with him. He's been a shell this year and his role is very diminished under AV.

Please Slats let him go, i implore you.

Contracts are given on both past accomplishments and future expectations.

This team cannot think in the past when it comes to giving an injury prone player a 6x6 contract, one who has never been a franchise player.

people who block shots and play full out with their heart on their sleeve (something he does do I'll give him that) do not earn 6M a season, players who can score goals and put up points do.

For this teams success? We haven't won a cup since '94

[You think the fans are jealous?

Some fans obviously are...

I
'll tell you the truth, I'm nervous as **** that we're going to see yet another cap crippling contract on this team that has seen them consistently since the cap came into effect.

It's a legit concern. I have those concerns too but if fans are ok with 5 years 5M, 6 years at 6M isn't that much more.

Everyone with eyes can see Callahan is declining and can NEVER stay healthy over a full season.

Yet, those same fans think Callahan will bring back a future #1 center...

You want to sign that up to a huge contract for the next 6 years, be my guest.

It's not my job to offer anything...

You want to know what I'm truly jealous of? Teams that have good management and don't overpay for non-star, role players.

Callahan is more than a role player though...

I'm sick of the Gomez's the Redden's the Drury's, The Rupps, The Brashear's the Boogaard's, The Kotalik's, The Richard's, The Roszival's
.

Who isn't...

The ONLY difference Callahan's contract will be compared to these, is that he was homegrown. If he was an FA coming from another team, it would be EXACTLY the same.

If he was a free agent from another team the Ranger fans would be saying he's what we need...

But some will choose to overlook it, because he was grown in our home. Fact is, it would be yet another Free Agent mistake in the long tenure of Sather and as Callahan declines and sits in the press box due to injuries over the next 6 years, many will come around and see this for what it is, a complete and utter albatross.

You have no idea how the next 6 years will play out....

Difference is, we won't be allowed to buy this one out.

I could be wrong but teams will still be able to buy out players...Did they take that out of the CBA?

Would you guys trade Stepan + prospect for Kesler?

Not a chance in hell… Kesler is injury prone, plus more importantly he's a UFA after next year. Do you want to give him absurd front line center money or let him walk? Stepan has been underwhelming this year, but the Rangers are in the drivers seat with him contract wise - meanwhile Kesler has what? Two more points than him on the season, and that's while Stepan has struggled. Kesler is better today, but not by much. Contract. Contract. Contract.

You act like Stepan is going to be easy to re sign.. do we not remember this off season with his play based on half a season?

both Rick Nash and Zucarello are better fits for the RW in this system, why should we pay Callahan 6m to be a 3rd line RW?
