The Kesler stuff is strange to me. Seems to me like he's the ultimate "Torts kind of guy." He gets tons of ice time. It's not like the Canucks are terrible. They've had injuries. I don't get it.

Vancouver's scouting and development haven't fed the roster with talent, their organizational depth is very poor with little to no help in sight. Roster is packed with NMCs and NTCs, so for them to get depth and talent, they are going to have to trade their star players.

That and probably Torts wearing his star players down again. Luongo, Kesler, and Edler might not be there next year.

The bottom of their roster is made up of waiver wire and bargain basement pickups.

larry brooks i feel is your typical story teller.. hes the one who said all week rangers have met gs 6x5.5 but g is getting cold feet and have second thoughts, then went on saying rangers screwed themselves basically and shouldve signed him to those terms back in the fall..

larrrys a joke.. always writes ******** articles

:amazed:

If that is the competing offer for Kesler there is no way we can match that without gutting the team plus a couple years of drafting and development.

If Pitt is offering that and I'm VC I'd take that and run provided they are serious about moving Kesler.

BTW. That right there should be some proof as to how "hockey profesionals" feel about Kesler's supposed decline. That's not even a hardball offer.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Price to get Kesler is high. 1. Significant/established NHLer, preferably a C, 20 to 25; 2. Top prospect, preferably a F. 3. 1st rd pick.

Sutter, Bennett, 1st. A deal I could see. Tough for the Pens to give up on Bennett, and honestly, I don't think they will.

Ring, Ring
Cap Crippling Hotel: Hello
Callahan Contract: Hey, it's me. I made it.
Cap Crippling Hotel: Ah, yes sir. We thought you were just a rumor ?
Callahan Contract: Nope, we managed to get the old man to cave on the deal.
Cap Crippling Hotel: Very well, you will find your room on the top floor, in the Clarkson wing, as construction of your wing is started.

My last thing on the Ryan Callahan situation. I dont want to hear any Ranger fans.. (casual or die hards) tell me that Ryan Callahan is a team first player after this ********.. regardless if he signs that 6 years 36M dollar offer.. Ryan Mcdonagh and Dan Girardi are team first players.. They took less money to stay here.

and yes he has every right to ask for it..

Right. He has the right to ask for money, but let's not pretend that he gives a **** about the team.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I've got to believe you can get a better return for Callahan than what Clowe garnered SJ, but even if the Clowe offer is the best you can get - take it. I'd rather a 2nd, 3rd and a conditional 5th/2nd than the 5x$6MM offer that was reported last week, much less 6x$6MM.

5x$5MM is the most I think he's worth - and even that deal is inappropriate for the Rangers with Nash and MZA on the roster and plenty of RW depth in the minors. I'd much rather take those dollars and use them to sign MZA to a long-term deal.

I'll say it again the Rangers aren't rebuilding....

You have no issue with Callahan at 5 years and 5M....great.....So what's the big deal paying him 1 million dollars a year more for 1 more year? Really, in the grand scheme of things that's not big deal for what Callahan brings.

It's funny. Everybody thought Prust was overpaid but at least once a week for two seasons people say "we should've just paid Prust"

Just about everybody LOVED the Nash trade. Dubinsky was **** on left and right on this board since the day he held out. Now it's "we lost our grit with when we traded Dubinsky"

If the Rangers trade Callahan it better be to improve the team now. Not take a chance that ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN with random draft picks.

What RW depth in the minors? Fast? We have no idea how good he will be. Kristo? We have no idea how good he will be. We know what we have in Callahan. Depth is something most people love but not certain posters. Nope, they just want to see a trade for prospects because prospects translate to hope, it doesn't matter if they work out.

The Rangers can't give Callahan away for draft picks. It's stupid. They aren't in a position to do that. We have a 31 year old goalie. When MZA is back we can role 3 lines. The team should be looking to improve the roster not subtract from it....

But SoS we need a true #1 center. Great, we aren't trading Callahan for that guy. We aren't drafting that guy with a late 1st round pick we would get from a contender.

The Rangers should improve the roster now. Try to make a run this year. Get as much playoff experience as you can get for McD, Kredier, MZA, Stepan, etc etc etc.....We have posters that are always planning for the future but can't fathom how important playoff experience is to our young players. That's more important to the organization than a package of draft picks.

Sometimes I wonder if the fans are just jealous of how much money these players make. Maybe, that's human nature, I don't know.

Everybody hates Sather but if a player doesn't give in to Sather's certain posters cry "what a greedy pig". Who hear want's to get paid less than they think they are worth? Why should Callahan?

Callahan should take the Rangers offer but if he doesn't NOT trading him isn't the end of the world IF another team isn't willing to meet the Rangers demands. I'm sure if that happens on this week people will cry about it.

"It makes them better!"

Derek Dorsett is a healthy scratch on this team... or at least should be with $1.6M cap hit. Get rid of that, and you have the same roster with Callahan's raise.

Now I would prefer MSL on the team too... but that probably is a move to be made in the off season. Say bye bye to Stralman and Boyle, replace them with McIlrath and Lindberg, and you fit in MSL on this team.

Money and numbers aren't about what anyone's feelings... it's about what works. What the market dictates.

Do people really think Callahan is the type of offensive player a team should build around for the next 6 years?

I don't think anyone thinks that. He's a great player and brings a lot of intangibles to the table but as far as offensive ability ... he's a 3rd liner on a good team.

I'd trade Dorsett any freaking way, Carcillo has done way more than Dorsett has for this team and he's much cheaper.

People talk about marching with pitchforks around here over MSL, well if they re-sign Cally at 6x6 I'm going to bring my pitchfork and march on MSG

You think the fans are jealous?

I'll tell you the truth, I'm nervous as **** that we're going to see yet another cap crippling contract on this team that has seen them consistently since the cap came into effect.

Everyone with eyes can see Callahan is declining and can NEVER stay healthy over a full season.

You want to sign that up to a huge contract for the next 6 years, be my guest.

You want to know what I'm truly jealous of? Teams that have good management and don't overpay for non-star, role players.

I'm sick of the Gomez's the Redden's the Drury's, The Rupps, The Brashear's the Boogaard's, The Kotalik's, The Richard's, The Roszival's.

The ONLY difference Callahan's contract will be compared to these, is that he was homegrown. If he was an FA coming from another team, it would be EXACTLY the same. But some will choose to overlook it, because he was grown in our home. Fact is, it would be yet another Free Agent mistake in the long tenure of Sather and as Callahan declines and sits in the press box due to injuries over the next 6 years, many will come around and see this for what it is, a complete and utter albatross.

Difference is, we won't be allowed to buy this one out.
