Really? I think 5 years and $30 million for Cally would be a fantastic and team-friendly deal that the Rangers would take in a heartbeat. Another year or another dollar over it and I'd walk away though...

I'm guessing most that would like a 30mil over 5 think it's team friendly only based on the numbers originally thrown out by Cally's side. Cally is a great leader and a good player, but not worth 6/yr.

There is no way Callahan takes 5x30, or anywhere near it. He was asking almost 50 mil.

I agree that 5x30 isn't realistic at this point, but I was merely advising you to hold off on the vomit until a deal is signed and the terms are announced. No need to scare your laptop or your lady until something happens, which I'm very skeptical of in the first place. I still think Cally's as good as gone.

Vigneault, optimistic by nature, says he confident Callahan will sign

That sounds more like a coach saying what he has to say.I'd be curious to know the question that prompted the answer. If he's directly asked "now that Girardi has signed, do you think they'll get Cally done too?" it could very well be that he's saying what he thinks is best for morale. (At least I hope so.)

So,

In this scenario (should we overpay Callahan).. What would we be looking to move to acquire MSL. When this Originally broke, part of it was we'd be shocked and it would create much debate. Moving an UFA asking for to much money wouldn't incite such a response IMO. So, if MSL is still in Sather's firing line, what current player (top six) and prospect(s) would result in said debate and split amongst the fan base?

IDK. He easily could have remained non-committal like he has thus far. "He is an important player, huge for our room, that is between Glen and his agent" type of thing.

I just found AV's comments to be weird.. coaches usually do not discuss contracts openly and publicly like that.

Richards could win the Conn Smythe and he's still getting bought out.

Anyone who doesn't agree with this quote simply lacks an understanding of the business side of hockey... Barring an injury (which would absolutely piss me off), Richards is DONE as a Rangers player in June. I'd love to see him hoist the Cup for NYR before leaving town.

Wow, are people hung up on getting MSL.

Just because he wants out and has said this is the only place he wants to go doesn't mean there is a fit. Unless you're trading Nash or MZA (which I suggested as a possible option yesterday, but which I think would be a huge mistake) where exactly do you propose finding minutes for MSL? Does Callahan become a $6MM 4th liner?!?

MZA, Callahan and Nash are the RWs.

I'm not sure who we'd give up for MSL, but nash can play LW, albeit not as well as RW, but something like

Nash Stepan MSL
Kreider Brassard Zucc
Hagelin Richards Callahan

doesnt look too bad to me, granted someone in there is probably going to get traded for MSL if a trade does happen

What's the big difference between a 3rd and 4th line 6mil dollar Callahan? lol, just saying, ridiculous either way..

Yes, obviously I'd love the acquisition of MSL, think he's exactly what we currently need to take that final step.

I don't even want to touch Pouliot - Brassard - Zuccarello.

People are making too much of AV's comments.

What is he supposed to say to the press 90 minutes before a game? "We're gonna trade him? Whatch gonna do brother if you don't sign a contract?":laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

He's going to or should say.. This is between Ryan and Glen. we'd love to have him here, he's a big part of our team, but its out of my control.. now that he's confident he's going to resign, coaches usually just dont do that.

Those comments could also mean that AV is a an of Callahan and wants to keep him around playing for his team. I'm not one to say coaches should have all the decisions in their team, but shouldn't they get some say in to who they have playing for them? Torts did..

OK... so....Probably discussed pages ago but....

Will Cally sign a contract with Vancouver? Isn't he Torts kind of player? Vancouver is floundering and needs some kind of shakeup so...

Is there a basis for some kind of Cally for Kesler deal?

I'd have no problems trading Zuc and either Pouliot or Brassard along with a pick or prospect (and I don't think I'd be too upset losing any prospect besides Miller and Fast) for St. Louis. I love Zuc, but he's an MSL light to begin with. Brassard is an inconsistent player, and Pouliot is an easily replaceable zero AFAIC.
