Blueshirt Bulletin ‏

Does anybody see any other reports that Callahan and the Rangers are showing progress? Is this guy talking out of his ass?

Per Andrew Gross on Twitter:

Callahan's agent says he's continuing to talk with Rangers, nothing new. Girardi's signing has no bearing on his client's status.

Would anyone freak out over a 5x5 deal for Callahan? Not saying he'd accept it, but I would think long and hard about keeping him on those terms.

I'll stomach a cap hit up to $6.5M. The issue would be the term. Ideally, we should want 4 years. But 5 years with a smaller cap hit than Girardi? Take it and run.

False alarm on Cally.

He and his client can take a long walk off a short pier. Nobody is going to pay Cally that asking price.....enjoy Buffalo if that is who will pay.

Thank you. That is a MUCH better deal, value wise. Hjalmarsson is terrific.

I could be wrong but I think Hjalmarsson really just started playing as well as he does recently. Chicago is probably getting the benefit of him hitting his stride as a player right as he gets a new contract

I think he's played well pretty much from the time he came into the league. I've been a big fan of his for a while. He is a really solid defensive defenseman. More mobile than Girardi.

Yeah! And he can take all of those playoff appearances that he was an integral part in generating with him!

And that cup...o wait.

He's been underwhelming as a playoff performer, if he can even make it there healthy.

Regardless, I love the guy, but he's not worth that money and won't hold up over that term. I'll always have respect for him and root for him (when he's not playing us) but he's not someone we should overpay to keep.

Some people act like this guy is some legendary Ranger in the making.....he's not. He's a solid player that's come through our system. He's been a fair leader for us, not a great one. Good team guy, good role player, effective for secondary scoring, not someone that deserves 6+million. Hopefully Glen has somewhat, finally, learned his lesson.

He was really good in their prior cup run to last year as well.

Pretty sure San Jose offer sheeted him but Hawks were smart enough to keep him & dump others.

idk...hjalmarsson is a very good player but girardi has played as much as 5 more minutes per game over the past few seasons. girardi had a lot more leverage.

Exactly. Bingo. Girardi has been playing Seabrook/Keith minutes the last few years. You cannot compare his contract to Hjalmarsson. Yes maybe similar style and production but Girardi has clearly proven he can handle top tier minutes. Thus at $5.5 million it is a good deal.

Eh I remember him having ups and downs and the Hawks really wouldn't have wanted to give him as much money as they did for his second contract. I agree he looked real good last night though.

The minutes thing is a good point though because I think some playesr can play big minutes and keep their level of play up, and some can't, and that can be the difference between a 2nd pairing and 1st pairing guy. Girardi can generally handle those minutes and its hard to say if someone like hjalmarsson could (and he's not going to get a chance to any time soon)

Girardi would EASILY get more on the UFA market than 5.5. EASILY.. that makes it a bargain IMO.. Boston would be interested, Anaheim, and lets not forget how stupid Toronto is, plus Edmonton might have thrown a blank check at him.

Kenjets and i get along now but we had our feud over Girardi in the beginning of the season...

KJ, guess Girardi isnt going anywhere after all haha

No.. sign him to be the 2nd pairing Dman.. I can't see him costing more than 3M per?

The market is very thin. He could get a million more than that. Right handed. If we could get him for 3, that's great. I think they will let him go though. The team will look for a cheaper 3rd pair option and have Mcilrath compete for the spot. He isn't far away from being in the league.

I wouldn't give him 4M.. I'd put Klein with Staal and find a cheaper option for the 3rd pairing with Moore.

Same here. Girardi is more senior and I don't see Hjalmarsson on the PP. Girardi is more versatile.

The play almost exactly the same way with Hjalmarsson being a better skater. Girardi has a real good shot at times, but he is too inconsistent with it. I always thought Girardi had the shot to hit 10 goals a year like we saw in 07-08
