If i were to make any prospect (other than Miller and Kreider if you still consider Kreider a prospect) untouchable, it would be Skjei. None of these names; Kesler, St. Louis, sure as heck not Yakupov, are worth losing Skjei, who IMO is going to be a top-end shut down defenseman.

If we had a prospect in college with Nail Yakupov's ability no one would rate Brady Skjei (a good player) anywhere near him.

Very happy about Girardi :)

Beautiful. There you go G. Took a discount on the cap hit, in favor for long-term stability. 5.5 per for G is a bargain. An absolute bargain.

If Yakupov had Brady Skjei's brain i'd agree. Unfortunately, skill doesn't always trump everything else.

“@DarrenDreger: 6 years, $5.5 per for Girardi staying with Rangers.â€

that is a good ****ing deal for Girardi...

You knew after the last few hits from the media that Slats was going to cave on either the Salary or the term.

Looks like he took the risk of the term for the lower salary

I don't know if I like that deal or not for Girardi. Girardi has a tendency for some massive brainfarts. He's been much better later in the year, but still not perfect. I'll just say he's a lot closer in ability to someone like Stralman than to someone like McDonagh, and McDonagh's being paid quite a bit less for being a far superior defenseman in pretty much every way. Sure McD was a restricted free agent, but that doesn't mean he couldn't sign a 3 year deal or negotiated with another team and forced the Rangers to pay even more to keep him. I mean it's not bad, but it's not great. Either that, or we got McD for an absolute steal.

Great! I really like the current d-corps, so I hope this means they all will stay. This probably means Callahan is the only trade to be done, and that's just fine by me. Maybe a depth d-man brought in, as well.

McDonagh will make a **** ton of money when his time comes. Don't worry about it.

My take is that the salary and term were agreed to for some time; the negotiations and back and forth, especially in last two weeks, were on NMC/NTC clause.
Both sides came to a good compromise there

But that's 6 years from the time of his contract. He's younger and better both defensively and offensively. Plus, he's WAY more consistent. It's still hard for me to tell whether we're overpaying Girardi or we got McD for highway robbery.

Good deal. I don't blame anybody for looking for a NMC/NTC with the Rangers (they do have a tendency to try and influence contract negotiations by linking trade talks, it seems--If i'm a player, I want to be protected from that).

Maybe a little long, and if it is a high number, it's only by the tiniest of margins. For a guy who can play half a game on the right side and excels in the post-season? That's a bargain as long as his play doesn't completely fall off.
