The same can be said for Pittsburgh, they could have goaltending and defense issues. The Bruins could have defense issues.

Things happen.

Oh yea without a doubt I agree. I just have to doubt our own teams chances because like I said I just don't want to get hurt anymore . Plus I acknowledge it's just such a tough thing to pull off even if the pieces are in place

True, but if we don't convert a team with MSL into a cup, then that's a major failure that could set us back once he retires.

I gathered from here somewhere Talbot becomes UFA after next season. Since we are committed to Hank, that creates possibility of him walking to become starter.

Blues checking out Miller but assets surrendered almost surely a rental, nothing past this season. Talbot would be all of next year, with a decent possibility to extend as starter.

In short, I propose multiple pieces on short term contracts that put St Louis over the top this year in exchange for two solid blocks we can add to McDonagh + Kreider.

Staal
Stepan
Callahan
MZA
Stralman
Talbot

for
Tarasenko, Shattenkirk + deadwood for headcount, cap

Explain:
Zuc healthy in 2.5 wks; he and Stepan balance out most of what you get offensively from Tarasenko. Calahan puts you over the top.

Staal does great job on left side, Stralman makes Blues not short on the right. Defensively, net gain overall. SLB has enough firepower.

Then, the key is add Talbot, makes deal worth doing for SL.

Rangers pay very high price, but add a top 6 LW and top 1RD to pair with McD.
Assuming Girardi is traded:
McD - Shatty
Moore - Klein
Allen/Falk - Allen/McIlrath

the D is a little thinner on the bottom but we are at least getting McI broken in.
Solid long term 1RD replacing Danny G in place

lines:
Pouilot Richards Nash
Kreider Miller Tarasenko (shoots L put plays RW)
Hagelin Brassard Dorsett/Fast (playing but still preserving, not wasting 1 yr his ELC)
Carcillo Moore Boyle (or replacement)

If we do not have netminder coming back, have to call up temporary David Leneveu (who was last emergency scheduled) or Jason Missiaen just to get through this year playing at least partial minutes in some games where we get far enough ahead.

Note: the above assumes Girardi traded, but does not reflect what we get.
Whatever that turns out to be, gets added into this, unless it is only for Ottawa 1st.

Til tom. Real world work.
Constructive comment invited/appreciated.

Why cant we win the cup with MSL? Because all i hear is your opinion. The rangers have a more healthy (and even when healthy) a better defense than both pittsburgh and boston. They have a clear better goalie than pittsburghs situation. They role 4 lines. MSL doesnt give us a legitimate chance?? In the words you guys like to use...Pls.

RGY, pls
I don't know what that part is supposed to mean

I actually agree with everything in that post, the only problem really would be is the ability to stay healthy. MSL would give them a shot depending who they have to give up

lawton said st louis requested a trade to the rangers in 09 too lol. why did u have to sign another contract with the lightning in 2011 marty?!? we could have managed to get you and richie that offseason and won the cup!!!

Unrealistic to think you need offense from defensemen and a top center to win a Cup?

Toews/Keith/Seabrook
Kopitar/Doughty
Krejci/Chara
Toews/Keith/Seabrook
Crosby/Malkin/Letang/Gonchar
Datsyuk/Lidstrom/Rafalski
Getzlaf/Pronger/Niedermayer
Staal/Kaberle/Hedican

We weren't talking about defensemen though. I think McDonagh is quickly progressing towards that. Girardi chips in offense. Staal has been much more active. But you needed stronger defensive minded guys on the blueline with the talent pittsburgh and boston have. Klein has made us that much deeper in that regard.

We arent't as deep at center, but we are deep in terms of goaltending, defense, solid 4th line role players, PKers, PP, and depending on who we had the deadline on the wings as well.

There are other teams that have all that AND centers.

St.Louis was on a line with Nash at the end of the Olympics. Babcock was doing us and him a favor. MSL saw the game last night and was like 'get me on a line with that guy again'

Yeah this sounds good. Let's just do this. #YOLO

I think the Rangers end up coughing up Miller for MSL. Just my opinion so no one fly off the handle because i know some love JT here. I like him too, but he is NHL ready. Depending on what TBL wants it could be Callahan/Miller/2nd or a 3-team kinda deal and its say Stewart/Miller/STL pick

Thank you for the insight.

Bold: an entirely reasonable premise. I hope you are wrong. But you may be right.

I can only pray the win now herd mentality is defeated, so we can set up and reload to co-dominate next year, and have real chance then.

Miller is ready, does C that we need, is a block, shouldn't be moved except for another block.

MSL is a splurge. Ok, but depends not as much on price as currency to make payment.

We are uphill vs to beat the WC finalist assuming we get there.
Should not go for broke here.
For cap, and deadline on use, Richards must be amnestied post season.

MSL not joined w/Brad at the hip, but part of getting Marty is to have chemistry w/Richards. Still, no matter what that only applies for this year.

No, if we go with Marty on closer to their terms, it is Cally + MZA.
If they realize an unhappy Marty for this year + next is not desirable, then something more like Hagelin + Duclair if we have already traded Cally.

Pittsburgh and Boston have a better defense? Pittsburgh a better goalie? I beg to differ...

But to each his own.

They both have a lower GA than us. We'll see.

IF we come out of the East, then there's the Sharks, the Blackhawks, the Blues, the Kings.

Fortunately you only have to face one of those teams.

:sarcasm:

We aren't trading Miller, guys. Not for a 38 year old. Let's get real.

Kristo, Fast, or Bill Lumberg; that's a different story.

Pittsburgh is like 0.01 better than us and didn't have to adapt to a new system. Are you friggin serious? You're going to great lengths to discredit this team, like REALLY REALLY reaching. The reason Pitt's GAA is so good every year is because their top 2 lines keep it in the other team's zone all the time. Also stats aren't the be all end all, I don't think that the Blues have a better offense than the Pens for example and most of the year, if not still they scored more.
