If it were me, I'd unload picks and anyone not named Lundqvist, McDonagh, and Kreider for a couple of 22 year old studs. Then rebuild around them. It's a lot easier to pick up the Callahans, Girardis and Hagelins via draft and free agency than it is to pick up the Toews and Getzlafs via draft and free agency.

Then again, I'm a patient SOB.

The problem is that teams that have someone who might be a gamebreaker don't want to give them up, and when you acquire them, how often do they end up not fulfilling their potential?

noone wants to give to get..

kesler is a beast.. i would not hesitate to get him if available for the right price..

id give max

Callahan, Brassard, Dorsett, Fast/lindberg, conditional pick for kesler, booth

not nearly enough.. but we got to stop mortgaging the future and keep a team together, all the teams that win tweaked their team not make major trades year in and year oout..

I fail to reconcile the logic between your hypothetical trade and the don't mortgage the future rap? Long day for me maybe I'm not reading well.

I thought the other picture of health dipietro had multiple as well. But he is also a smidge over 2000 years old judging by that Jesus look.

My grandmother has 2 hip surgeries and boy that didn't keep her from shooting a spry 200 in golf and playing Yahtzee with the gals.

This is what you wrote:

I said I'd be willing to move either for a 22 year old stud. So, tell me - which 22 year old studs ARE available? Tavares?

First off i wasn't being serious about Kristo and Fast. I should use this more :sarcasm:. They are far from blue chip prospects. As far as im concerned we have no one in the system that will ever play top line minutes effectively.

My point was that there is no 22 year old studs available that we could get. We could not put together a package that could get a Matt Duchene. Folks are referring to MSL, Kesler, and/or Stasny as not good enough to use our prospects on in a trade. I have news for you, they would be HUGE upgrades to our team.

i am 100% behind getting young cheap guys to grow together as a team. With the way this team started, i thought this year would be the year we got younger and hungrier. Many expiring contracts, B Rich buyout, and a near bottom finish would get us some good picks and lots of money to spend. Fortunately, or unfortunately, we're buyers and making a run.

How many Vancouver games have you watched this season, GWOW?

Most of them on the away feed, which sucks because Im one of the few guys who likes Garrett. Mainly to see if Torts had changed with what many thought was a better roster.

Im just surprised that people think Kesler is broken down. Actually, I'm not that surprised because most Rangers fans dont watch West Coast games for obvious reasons.

Just because he's no longer going to be a 40-70 guy doesnt mean he's a has-been who isnt an excellent two-way forward.

Call me crazy but i like players who can skate and hit and score goals while playing elite defense, no matter how old or how much they make.

So if people disagree with you, they've never watched Kesler and are homers?

I'm not saying Kesler isn't a better player because as an overall package, he definitely is, but he is also older and often injured.

No.

When people call him broken down, it tells me they haven't been watching him Play this season.

Whatever hand injury he suffered in Sochi has nothing to do with the fact that for this whole season he's skating and defending like he did in 2011.

too bad hes not scoring like 2011. If he were he would absolutely be worth the package theyre asking for.

This team has plenty of players that can defend. If they're going to pay a huge ransom for a player I'd prefer it to be for someone who can score well.

People seem convinced that this is a bad team and I don't really...get it? Why is this the Rangers team that needs to be sold for scrap metal? Elite goalie, elite 1D, great depth, room for the young players we do have to develop on a team that doesn't suck ass and lose all the time. If we jettison Callahan and we rip up the Richards contract, we don't have a single poisonous contract. This is both hugely important in a cap league and rare in Rangerland.

We're weak up the middle and we don't have a gamebreaking superstar forward (I think Rick Nash can be a fantastic #2 in a 1-2 punch), so Kesler and St. Louis are both exciting. The Canucks would want a fair value and the Lightning might not, which could be the dealbreaker. Nail Yakupov is also my pet cause, I think he's in the interesting position of having all the potential in the world while not helping his team win hockey games. You put him on a winner and coddle him a bit, you have something very interesting. If he/that team don't pick it up soon, he's going somewhere.

Hes under contract for two years and is a No. 2 center.

People on here want a 1st and a prospect for guys like Callahan and Girardi, and theyre rentals.

Funny how that works.

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper 1m
#RedWings #Penguins #Rangers interested in Kesler. No shortage of offers starting 2 come in for #Canucks. I'm leaning towards a trade by Wed

Bruce Garrioch ‏@SunGarrioch 11s
@RealKyper Add the Blue Jackets to that list

Going to be a long weekend.

I just saw on twitter that the rangers are in on kesler, what could we possibly give up to get kesler? I have to imagine torts will want Hagelin Boyle Girardi staal Callahan. Those are torts guys, what do you guys think?

Well, we need top-end help at center and left wing. You cant acquire game breaking talent without loosing at least, one of our best players, our depth, and maybe high draft picks or prospects. I too would love Yak.

Callahan is the only one of those guys I'd be happy sending for Kesler. I could live with Boyle since Kesler would bring what he brings and then some, but I'm really not into the Kesler idea. He's not what this team needs IMO.

Were losing Callahan. Stepan is horrid on faceoffs, even worse on the PK draws.

Moore and Boyle are about it. Maybe Hagelin.

He's the best available top 6 center available ATM, seems like Sather wants to make a splash with either St. Louis or kesler and Sather always gets what he wants. We will lose one or both of cally and Danny g so Sather is looking to replace that with real skilled guys and I appreciate that

Stepan is a solid defensive player despite his face-off problems. Moore is a good d player. Boyle is a good D player. Hagelin is a good D player.

And almost all our defenseman are D first guys.

If there's no incentive to the deal and it's just trading assets that Van feels are equal to Kesler for Kesler, I'd rather either not move those assets at all, or move them for an excellent offensive player.

Personally, I don't watch this team and think "they'd be so much better if only they had another defensive forward" let alone at the cost of real assets.

I don't think you should choose who to spend important assets on based on who's currently available unless your team is absolutely ready to make a deep, deep run, or that player is in a position where you're getting a real deal on him, like St Louis currently. This team needs a 1/2C and they have for a while. In all likelihood, Kesler will be another Stepan who can win more face-offs, and he'll be that for a few more years assuming that he doesn't get seriously injured again, which is a big assumption. Would that be helpful? Sure. Would it be worth what it would cost to get him, which would also mean that those assets aren't available when/if a more offensive player is available? I'd say no.

Callahan + something not too painful for St Louis through some chain of events I can live with. St Louis is in a position where NYR can get him for less than his worth. They aren't in that position with Kesler, and given his recent play, I don't think its worth giving Vancouver what they'll want.

But Kesler isnt just another defensive forward. Hes an outstanding defensive forward.

He also has more goals than anybody on the Rangers.

If the Rangers can get 1sts for both Girardi and Callahan, you wouldnt have an issue with a trade along the lines of Brassard, Fast and a 1st for Kesler?

I mean, i dint think the Canucks even entertain that. They would want Stepan.

No he is not and if he were, there is no ranger package that could get him.

I believe a package AROUND McDonagh could Duchene would be fair. Top 10 defensman? Top 12 if you really want to stretch it. Does either team make the trade? No. I doubt it. Would a package revolving around those two with appropriate small + be fair? Sure.
