BTW, Ducks fans are ok moving Vatenen it seems. Is that bad sign? Usually fans overrate their players, if they're ok moving him, I wonder if they know something that we don't.

They are a win now contender, and Vatenen is not a top 4 defenseman.

Lindholm is their McDonaugh. Their RHD's are are 6,7 guys playing above their heads. They need a shutdown top 4 D that can play the right side to have a shot at coming out of the west.

Fowler-Beaucheman
Lindholm-Girardi
and their solid group of 5-7's make for an excellent defense. Without it, there is a gaping whole playing big time minutes.

The ducks dont want Bryan Allen facing lines of Thornton then Pavelski then Coutre.

Jeff Gorton is very high on Kristo. He's the one that pushed to acquire him. He's being developed properly. He'll come out next year and open some eyes. He's not getting traded. I like Fast as a player more than Kristo as a player, but I see Fast as the trade bait over Kristo. Fast has injury concerns, I'm really not sure he can stay healthy for a sustained period of time. Is it best to get something for him now?

If he isn't a full time NHL next season, and doesn't play 80 something games from now till July 1st 2015.... Kristo becomes a UFA.

He's almost 25 and fits under UFA parameters for career minor league players. He spent 4 years at college and one in US Juniors after his draft. Amazing shot, but the rest of his game is hollow.

Boomer could very well have heard from his source that the Rangers were close to a deal for Vatanen. That could be all he knows. He tweets "Sami Vatanen" and then looks good if the trade goes through.

Still not his m.o.

He really only tweets before huge transactions or news. And so far, he's been right on all of them.

He's generally more specific with the news. But i'm guessing the short and cryptic tweets are all he can do, this close to the deadline.

maybe its not john moore than but bottom line Boomer was exicited boomer again

So miller? Kreider? Girardi? and callahan both gone for st louis NAH none of your blue chips or guys you are gonna be upset about.

Boomer wouldnt have been the guy on tonight. He would have been hmm not sure on this kinda sucks.

You are geting Vatanen and dont think you will give up what you all think and am sure I would bet personally is not Girardi that would be awful for you guys.

This is all about Marty St Louis but if you had to lose something major on top of callahan you guys would be pissed and that aint happening in my humble opinion.

As said we view prospects guys at 50 games with this upside that is not how GM's value.

If Vatanen isn't a top 4 guy, I'm not sure Klein is a great top 4 guy, we're basically throwing this season away. Our biggest strength (outside of Lundqvist), will evaporate. So what's the point of MSL. You're following 2 different philosophies. One's "rebuild" (Vatanen) and one's go for it (MSL).

Perhaps he'll give out more info tomorrow on his radio show.

Kristo can pass the puck too, big time. I loved what I saw of his game at Traverse and in Hartford the few times I got there.
He needed work away from the puck, and I know he's been banged up recently. But he was also on a legit tear there for a while, was like 6th in AHL in goals at one point.

Im real anxious to see what he could do, especially on the PP.
I keep him over Fast any day. I dont like hammering on young guys, but Fast showed next to nothing every time I saw him. Marginal guy to me until he shows otherwise.

Just FYI, the beat writer for the OC Register (local paper) said he hasn't heard anything, and he doubts Murray would trade Vatanen for a UFA.

Note, he's not always on top of rumors. But I'd agree with him that it'd have to be a sign and trade.

Serious question, Todd: when's the last time you saw Fast play?

I see Vatanen a lot living out here. He is the real goods. Ducks are deep in defense prospects but need to shore up the here and now for the playoff run. I could definitely see Girardi as a target for them. I would imagine that they would like to see if they can sign him before moving Vatanen though. If not, I would not trade Vatanen for a rental if I were them.

So let me get this straight. Anaheim wants to improve their defense and Vatanen can't crack their blueline group. So we're going to trade them Girardi to improve their D, for the guy who's not good enough to help their D. :help:

OK, I'm kidding a bit...but there is some truth in there as well.

I've been intrigued by Vatanen but at his size, I don't know that he ever becomes more than an offensive, bottom-pair Dman. Why do we have to give up a top asset like Girardi for that return when a guy like K. Russel gets acquired by the Flames for a 5th round pick?

Post #666 :yo:

Serious question, Todd: when's the last time you saw Fast play?

Im guessing you're going to tell me Fast is plainly better LOL;

Umm, Fast was hurt last time I saw the Pack play, sometime before Xmas. So the last time I saw him in a full game was his early season stint. I've seen his Htfd highlights, but they usually dont tell you much.

Hey, if he's better than Kristo overall, that's not a bad thing.
But I love Kristo's game, pure offensive player.

Fast is certainly better than Kristo. Kristo just gets hurt less.

I've gotten to see a little bit of both. Kristo stuck out more to me.

Doesn't mean he's better, just that he wow'ed me more. Fast could be a far smarter player who doesn't have a knack for flash. I'm sure Kristo has more of a knack for boneheaded plays but I would notice him on the ice more often than Fast.

Haven't seen them that recently but i'm reading good things about Fast lately. Maybe part of what I saw had to do with his adjustment to the N.A rink and playing style.

I'm sure Kristo has more of a knack for boneheaded plays but I would notice him on the ice more often than Fast.

The last time I was there, Kristo was making such unreal passes he was fooling his own guys and they became turnovers. He was skating I think with Haley and then Hrivic on his left for some reason, and at least twice those passes ended up in his own net. And I think he had an assist & 6-7 shots that night.

Goes to show, you can look at stats and see a -2 and get no sense of what happened. But I dont doubt he needed work. Gernander said they just wanted him to shorten up & learn to keep it safe, always.

Still, I see breakout talent in him just like Zuc, who most people including his old coach gave up on at one point.

Fast is far superior to Kristo in being able to play the NHL game. Fast plays a solid two way game and is more or less ready for a longer stint in the big league. Now. Kristo constantly hotdogging at almost 25 and yet not dominating in the AHL yet says quite a bit about his curve. I love players like Kristo - but they need to be exceptional and consistent in order to break NHL ice. So far, despite flashes of dazzling hockey, I have yet to see that from Kristo. Time will tell. And I hope he accelerates like mad too

How does Vatanen compare to DZ offensively and defensively?

They're totally different IMO. Not because they're both Finnish, but I see a lot of Timmonen in Vatanen. Defensively he relies a lot on quick pivots and passes to move the puck out of danger quickly, though he is vulnerable to getting over eager and leaving coverage for the puck. He does a good job in front of his goalie for a little guy. In general, he's not great there yet, but he's pretty good for a 22 year old known more for offense. On the other side, the kid is a really good skater, good passer, has a great shot, and loves to join the rush. (Also, I've watched a fair amount of him since I live in Washington and he's in my time zone, so I not talking out of my ass.) Not saying he'll be as good as Timmonen, just that he's a very slick, smart player who uses his size to his advantage. Del Zotto's game is a lot more choppy IMO. He's more physical, and can match up better one on one when the forward has the puck. On the rush he's also got a better awareness of how to handle the play, though I think that will come with experience. Also, DZ's offensive strength comes form his great outlet passing, whereas Vatanen tends to skate up with the rush more.

Torts needs help. Let's give him some. Saw this somewhere else and liked it. Kesler and Bieksa to NYR for Callahan, Girardi and Boyle. Torts could get the band back together.
