For every Edmonton and Florida there has been a Chicago and Pittsburgh though. Just luck of the draw and getting the right supporting cast to compliment your top players.

I also am beginning to really like FLA's future. EDM... eh, as long as chucklehead keeps taking the popular pick and badly ignoring his defensive corps, they're pretty much doomed.

I mean this in the nicest possible way, but I don't think you not watching anymore would really effect anyone but yourself.

Also, I don't know how you can possibly hold this against the team. Callahan is demanding a disgusting contract. G was demanding a reasonable one, then NYR met it, and now it might not be enough for him. These guys aren't bigger than the franchise. They can't hold it hostage only to be overpaid and eventually drag it down.

I love both these players as Rangers, but if they want to rob a franchise for the next 6 years, especially together, I prefer that they do it somewhere else.

If we're going to let emotion get involved, where is the loyalty here? From either guy? Girardi wasn't even drafted, NYR gave him a shot, and now he's a very wealthy man who is a top pairing d in the NHL. Callahan, despite not being a huge offensive presence, rose up the ranks about as quickly as possible here, and was eventually named captain of this original six franchise. Now, they both can demand whatever they want, and they're demanding overpayment. The whole line of being ungrateful goes both ways. Players do a lot for teams and teams do a lot for players.

Of course it effects me, who else does it effect. Im just saying it.

Callahan surely has to come down from 7million 7 years if that is in fact with his asking for. but I've said it befre I give them both 6y 36 m deals.

Their loyalty seems to be each other, and isn't that what you want? Do you want the players on the team to be loyal to each other or to you the fan? I want the team I watch to be a team. And you don't get a closer knit group then when guys are willing to go to bat for them.

Pledge your loyalty to the jersey ok, but don't pledge it to ownership/management just bc it seems their interests suits your interest as a fan of the team.

The money being suggested is for callahan is absurd. I don't know if thats what he ends up signing for. So I have no idea if that is a number that is in conversation or has simply been put out there as the official top range.

I don't want management to throw elite level money at them to get a deal done. I want both of the players to be reasonable and I want management to be reasonable and deals to be made.

Cally and G could very well decide they are teaming up in Buffalo. I believe G's family is from toronto. Buffalo and Toronto are fairly close. Just watching the Bs and Sabres and Michaletti was talking about how the sabre owner wants to spend spend spend. Maybe G is willing to take a little less here if that means cally's staying but he's not taking less if he's not.

I don't know man. In the same way that Ive seen whats been coming for the last couple years, coming. If cally and G leave now I know whats coming going forward from that. The rangers aren't going to replace them and Staal gonna leave. And all of the sudden the Rangers have huge gaping holes.

If you can get the leading scorer of the past 5 years, you do it.

Not if it costs what it would cost.

We can wait the year and sign him as a free agent and not lose the assets in the process.

We aren't big enough now, let alone after trading two of our more physical players.

Not saying we shouldn't get MSL or SV, but to act like we'll be fine without any size entering the lineup is absurd. This team is too soft right now, we'll we WAY to soft if we replace G and Cally with MSL and SV.

I would move futures to TB for St Louis.. move Girardi to the Ducks for Vatanen and Etem or Vatanen and Kerdiles, etc. something like that. move Callahan to another team for a roster player and prospect (the rumored asking price).. MSL would give us the top 6 guy we need, Vatanen would give us a 3rd RHD to go with Stralman and Klein, whatever roster player in the Callahan deal replaces whatever offense we lose with him, which is not much.. That not only helps us out now (adding MSL to pretty much the same team), it also helps us out in the future as well with prospects and picks.

If Girardi really did not accept the Rangers offer after we reportedly moved to his asking price.

The only problem is who is our #1 RHD? Stralman?

I'd be surprised if the Ottawa first was in play at all, though any "ten percent of ten percent" chance of us getting a top five pick is fun to think about and theorycraft here. I can't think of a second suitor for Girardi that would throw in an offer anywhere near Vatanen + Ottawa pick.

St. Louis and Vatanen can still be in play at the same time. I don't see any significant market for Callahan and if we get St. Louis it's because things would have broken down in Tampa's end. Callahan and a second rounder/prospect detritus is not an opportunity cost worth crying about when you have a couple years of a PPG player. It all makes for a kinda smurfy team, but maybe it will give Nash more impetus to play the body or whatever. All in all, whatever happens, a very entertaining trade deadline.

Bye... I'm loyal to the shield...

You don't even realize how funny that comment is. I feel you. I have loved this team my entire life. It was always rangers hockey, above all other forms of entertainment, other then playing sports itself. I feel you

Two questions:

1) Who plays RD on the top pair, or do you shift McD over?
2) What "futures" are you trading for MSL?

Yeah I edited it with who plays the top RHD pairing? Stralman? I dont see him being able to do that.

depends on what futures we could recoup in the Callahan/Girardi deals...

I like St Louis, but it's not the last 5 years you're trading for. It's the next few and he is 38.

Again, not saying I dislike him but you have to be realistic about what your getting.

True, but his next few years will be better than the monstrous contract Callahan wants.

What would it cost? Callahan, who will walk in the summer anyway, and a prospect/pick? I do it.

I could see Callahan + conditional pick for Kesler. That makes a lot more sense. Kesler played well for AV. The Rangers need a big center. He fills multiple needs. Signed.

Callahan played his best hockey with Torts. Adds physicality and grit that he likes.

That makes more sense than St Louis

I seriously have to question your hockey knowledge.

St. Louis plays big boy hockey better than any team in the league. Their little guys are tough and they all block shots. Callahan looked like himself next to Backes.

Armstrong and Hitchcock were probably drooling at the Olympics.

Boomer wasn't wrong about the St. Louis stuff. The player asked for a trade and the Rangers spoke to TB. That he had before anyone else. Yzerman doesn't want Callahan. The Rangers don't want to give up young assets. That's the problem.

You think Boomer knows anything about Vatanen? I don't think Boomer is watching the Ducks late at night when he wakes up at 3 or 4 in the morning to do his radio show. Someone gave him Vatanen. The Rangers finally agree to give Girardi 6 years and $33M but G isn't rushing to sign it. Vatanen would be a good get for the Rangers.

yup three way deal is how it would go down

and yup somebody gave Boomer vatanen's name. Probably to get feelings from ranger fans on how they would feel on the return. Something is up right now regarding G/callahan, and brooks is working that angle.

Would people familiar with brooks say he tends to write with pro-player pro-union slant. Its kinda seemed that way from the Callahan/Girardi/Lundqvist stories this year. Always promoting the top line. Seems like Callahan/Girardi and their agents are trying use this as a means push for Callahan to get a deal where he wants it. And if brooks is pro-union he got the story.

I think you'd have to go with

Staal-McD
Moore - Klein
Stralman - Vatanen

I don't really like that. We really don't win the cup, or even stand a chance by inserting Vatanen and MSL for Cally and Girardi.

Outside of Girardi being traded for a solid top 4, we really can't lose him and expect to compete. He's too vital.

1) relax with the personal shots.

This goes for everyone. Relax or infractions will be handed out.

I wrote St Louis as in Martin, not the city.

I think we need to sign Girardi period, trade Callahan for some assets and then see if we can make a move for MSL without giving up too much.. that would be an ideal scenario IMO.. but Girardi has to want to sign the contract that we met that he originally wanted.
