This all makes sense Kesler wants out of Vancouver and probably has since Torts came in. He knows there is a 99.9 percent chance we move Callahan and thats why he speaks up and says now that he wants out. He knows Torts would probably love to bring Cally in to his system and sees that he has a good chance of landing in NY and playing for AV again. I think there is a better chance of us seeing Kesler than St. Louis in the Big Apple

who cares if cally torts is on the rocks, ryan cant control where he goes, he doesnt have a NMC or NTC

Why is Vancouver going to trade their good center for a UFA cally that doesn't want to play for the coach.....

Logic is pretty easy to see here.

Get you are right he's been hurt but if they go Kesler , stepan, miller at c next yr I'm ok w that. Buyout Richards , I'm assuming brassard plus for Kesler

I think I'd rather give an extra 1-2 M for Stastny in that case, Kesler is on the decline IMO, injuries maybe caught up to him.. it can't be just Torts, because the last 2 seasons (well at least his 49 pt season) he had AV

St Louis has an NMC and has maybe stated that he only wants to go to NYR. I'd be really, really shocked if he didn't end up in NY either at the deadline or over the offseason.

yeah but they would consider a callahan, brassard, prospect like fast/lindberg, 2nd/1st* if we had to for kesler, booth (take that salary dumb)

we'd have to give up a center.. bc they are already so thin at center..

its possible.. keslers a BEAST dude is our ideal need for a top 6 center.. got the size, and skill and pp stud, injuries our not hes a player i want and would take over MSL

Brassard has as many points as Kesler does.. and isn't Kesler their 1C?.. I dont understand the love with Kesler and the player he is today. not 3 years ago.

:yo: id love Kesler.. St.Louis is a great player but Kesler fits more of a need for this team.. Kesler makes more sense.

1) That's certainly debatable. The playoffs are a long haul and the CS winner is not always as clear as you're making seem. Add to that, that maybe St. Louis could win a CS, but he's gonig to have bigger guys around him.

2) Average, sure, but most of our big guys don't play big. Are you really going to tell me Rick Nash plays to his size, or even remotely close? Doesn't have have like under 10 hits this year? We have a few guys that bang bodies (Boyle, Carcillo, Pouliot [pleasantly surprised]) but they aren't bangers that drive you through the playoffs. You need an Ott, Neil, Lucic, etc. Having size with guys like Stralman and Nash really doesn't mean anything. It's how you use that size and assuming we're sending away Callahan, one of our best hitters, that leaves an even larger gap in that area.

This team has 1 Cup in 74 years, yet people talk about it like it's not that hard to win.

Are people honestly talking about the Kesler that is currently playing for Vancouver? Or are they talking about a Kesler that was on the verge of being a superstar 3 years ago?

At which point it doesn't make much sense for the Rangers. We have Callahan who we are willing to part with, we can add to that to some degree for a player who wants out. When Callahan is gone this offseason we will have to give up a player we didn't have to give up the first time around. Not ignoring that Callahan will bring back a roster player of some sort, but who do you want to give up that is close in value to Callahan for MSL in the summer?

It is now or never for the Rangers IMO and that could be used in negotiations, if you can't pull the trigger now Steve you're going to be stuck with a player that wants to come here but we can't justify the price after this playoff run in which we could really use him.

It gets to a point of absurdity with the tweets every two minutes; especially when it gets to the nonsense, all-purpose fallback bull;
oh, it may not happen till summer. Right.
Gotta realize this gossip is big business for everyone involved, especially in Canada. Think they let kids stay home from school on deadline day now. Sheesh, it's a hockey trade for heavens sake.

Now Dregers out there saying. "TBL reached out to the Rangers prior to the Olympics to gauge interest in the possibility of trading such a dynamic and impactful player in their organization. It wasn’t a fit at that point and it will be complicated process to make it fit between now and March 5 because Steve Yzerman is not going to give Marty St. Louis away."

No, of course not. But he was the one doin' the callin', wasnt he?

I give it till about 2pm tomorrow; after that Ill tune out till it happens. Enough.

I dont think it makes sense to get MSL in the off season if thats what it comes down to.. There are players available who are younger and could also help for just money. at that point it doesn't make sense to give up assets for one year of MSL (even though he'd probably resign since he's trying to get here)

There's still a player that wants a trade, only wants to come to NYR, and has full control over where he goes.

The longer this goes on, and the less contract MSL will have left, the lower the price.

How is trading Callahan + prospect(s) + pick(s) for a 38 year old who becomes an unrestricted free agent in one year, good for the Rangers? Other than for some dilusionnof granduer that this team will magically beat the true contenders in the league.

No size on the wings, no size in the middle, and yet, somehow they would beat Boston, Pittsburgh, and one of Anaheim, Chicago, LA, St. Louis, San Jose...

Or...the Rangers can do what is correct, what real successful clubs do, and trade their two prized UFA to be chips (or one of them) for a young roster player + prospect + pick and continue building towards being on a level where they can realistically contend.

St. Louis does not make this a Stanley Cup contender. This isn't a vacuum. The REAL contenders wouod still be better and they are also going to improve at the deadline.

Well said. I hope MSL comes here and it works out. But this is in line with how I feel overall.
