"@erlendssonTBO: Marty St Louis is on the ice for #tblightning practice this morning as is Sami Salo #OlympicMedalists"

Also Callahan and Girardi are both practicing.

I wish they would just sign G already... it's gotta be coming.

The gulf between Sather's offer and Girardi's offer is very small. There's no reason that a deal shouldn't be able to get done.

That a deal hasn't been sealed already leads me to believe that Sather is waiting to be blown away by an offer as the deadline looms. If no team makes such an offer, he meets Girardi in the middle and re-signs him. Honestly, even if he met Girardi's demands in full ($5.75M/6Y???), that's still less than he is likely to get, both in dollars and term, on the UFA market. Dan is willing to take a hometown discount as evidenced by his existing offer. Callahan, on the other hand......

The gap is reportedly less than 500K per season. That seems small, but remember Ryan Smyth was traded from Edmonton over 100K per season.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sather give Girardi and ultimatum. Either you're a New York Ranger for the next 6 years for X dollars, or you're and Anaheim Duck with an expiring contract.

We're taking about practice? We got trades to discuss and we're taking about practice man? Practice?

Edit: Beaten to the punch by graph manboy...

Edited for clarity and to stay on topic I think people read into practice at the deadline way too much. The only relevant thing is if someone gets pulled from practice everything else is business as usual.

I think it extends to games as well. Until there's a deal that's truly imminent, teams need to focus on winning games. It's only when you're down to dotting the i's and crossing the t's that players get sat out.

Guess thats MSL not coming.

Until Yzerman/MSL publicly deny the trade rumor I wouldn't say it's over. In fact, I'd say its happening, and Callahan is just waiting to see if any other offers roll through right now. This is my optimistic opinion.

Hoping Sather doesn't crap the bed on this one.

People like to crap all over Stewart, but him plus another quality asset or two really is pretty good value for a UFA Callahan. You get a player back who can step right into Callahan's spot without the dropoff being too bad, and he's locked up for another year. You also get some assets for the future. Just like Pouliot and Brassard, Stewart is inconsistent. That doesn't make him a terrible player or lazy. If he can put it all together under a new coach, you have a possible long-term asset. If not, you can still flip him to another team next deadline for a decent return.

Obviously, it depends on what the Blues would be adding on top of Stewart in that deal, but if you can get one or two really good additional assets, that would be a smart, shrewd deal.

I haven't seen enough of Stewert lately, but I wonder if many contending teams even would want something to do with him. I am not saying they wouldn't, but I am not convinced of it.

He is a very big body who loves to park infront of the net and he is effective there.

Sometimes when I've seen him, he has also been absolute crap in other areas. Worse than Wolski. Do you want a player on your team that in 9 of 10 situations is below the league avg?

The game today is more than anything else about winning the momentum battle.

I just don't know on Stewert.

So he's definitely coming?

I think "incorrect" is a little too absolute at this point.

Saying that he isn't coming is incorrect is not saying he is coming. It's saying that it is incorrect to think he isn't just because he showed up to practice.

Likewise it would be incorrect to think he was coming if he didn't show up.

I'll be really surprised if the two sides can't get a Girardi contract done. You can replace more of what Callahan brings to the table than what Girardi does.

Staple saying St. Louis def requested a trade... but I kinda thought we knew that already.

I'd link it but don't subscribe to Newsday (I saw it on SNY Rangers)

Yeah, all of a sudden people are talking LOL;
It's becoming more definitive; in fact doesnt get much more so than that;

and Cally's agent says they didnt speak since before Olympics.
Says he's disappointed. More CYA.

"Arthur Staple has learned from three different sources that Martin St. Louis did in fact request a trade from the Tampa Bay Lightning last month. (Newsday)
St. Louis has a no-move clause and can pick his destination which Staple says would be the Rangers since he lives in Greenwich, CT in the offseason. (Newsday)
It is not known if St. Louis still feels this way. He is practicing with Tampa Bay today"

If they get Girardi done, do they look to move Stralman? I doubt they keep both...

I'd have to think so...he'll probably be looking for a 3-4yr/3-3.5 AAV deal over the summer, and with Klein in the mix, Im not sure that would be money well spend. Only thing is who takes over that RHD spot on the 3rd pair?
