This story got me juiced. Ive been amped off this since I got home late saturday night, read the tweets, and put together it was St. Louis. This is shocking. Not necessarily that St. Louis wants to finish his career here, but that he could force his way here, in a trade where the Rangers really make out. St. Louis as opposed to Stewart. OMG pinch me
Still prefer Callahan to sign, without a doubt. Nothing will change my opinion on this. But I have been prepping myself for it, so a St. Louis consolation prize is off the charts to me.

I love the Rangers, but I take the trade to the Ducks and a better shot at the cup and UFA status then get bullied into a deal for less money than I am offering which is ALREADY a discount on what he can expect on the open merket.

So, I am more than ever against shipping out one of our most valuable trade assets to be moved in recent memory in exchange for a guy who - despite his undeniable talent - is 38, undersized and plays our deepest position. And I'm even MORE against trading any picks or young assets for him.
But you know what I'd be okay with?
Letting this play out past the deadline, trading Cally for more appropriate pieces, trading/re-signing Girardi depending on offers/his demands, figuring out all our other UFAs and RFAs, going into next season...
and then, when our core is hopefully more established and complete, MSL is a year older (granted, perhaps performing a notch or two below his current level), and a rental himself...
acquiring him at next year's deadline - if the Rangers are in the top 5 or 6 and the price isn't too high.
(Or, better yet, signing him for nothing on a year-to-year basis when he hits UFA two summers from now.)

Where did St. Louis directly mention any specific rumor? He said basically nothing. But if this gets people jazzed up, knock your socks off.
