Stamkos, MSL and Cooper have all commented to a beat writer to which they know will go public with their statements. How is this NOT a response to the rumor?

as far as I see he is playing word games. Unless he can chime in and tell us how what he is saying is over my head and that Im misunderstanding what he is getting at.

So, I am more than ever against shipping out one of our most valuable trade assets to be moved in recent memory in exchange for a guy who - despite his undeniable talent - is 38, undersized and plays our deepest position. And I'm even MORE against trading any picks or young assets for him.

But you know what I'd be okay with?

Letting this play out past the deadline, trading Cally for more appropriate pieces, trading/re-signing Girardi depending on offers/his demands, figuring out all our other UFAs and RFAs, going into next season...

and then, when our core is hopefully more established and complete, MSL is a year older (granted, perhaps performing a notch or two below his current level), and a rental himself...

acquiring him at next year's deadline - if the Rangers are in the top 5 or 6 and the price isn't too high.

(Or, better yet, signing him for nothing on a year-to-year basis when he hits UFA two summers from now.)

Im with you.

But isnt it more fun to fly by the seat of our pants and hastily cobble together a deal for a 38 year old?

Because none of those comments mentioned a specific rumor. Nothing was really said other than St. Louis and Yzerman had a conversation about his future. Lots of ways that could go. Is there really any new information? Not to me. So I'm not sure how this was a case of a player "directly responding to trade rumors".

ok I understand what your saying. I think its kinda of selectively omitting human intelligence to put things together. But whatever man, we're all ranger fans

Ryan Kesler
, its a shame that he does get hurt but hey if Sather took a risk with Lindros, im sure he will take a chance with Ryan Kesler.

maybe Kesler is the guy Rangers are after.. maybe Rangers Canucks can work out a deal...

Ryan Kesler makes 5 mil each season till 2015-2016 after two back to back 70 pts season in 09-10,10-11 season.... that would be less than Callahan wants as an UFA... :amazed: when Callahan reaches 70 pts then he can deserve 6+

what would it take for Kesler to be traded to Rangers. if he is available, Sather must try to get him within reason.. he is an upgrade and would add size down the middle...

If this has really been going on for nearly a month, then there's nothing hasty about it.

Since we're so fond of making leaps, wouldnt that imply the two sides cant agree on a package from the Rangers.

A package that will certainly involve more than one expiring asset?

Honestly it would probably take an overpayment on the Rangers part to pry him from Vancouver... id assume that the Canucks would want Kreider, or Stepan.

It would more likely happen in the offseason because there would be a lot of moving parts it wouldn't be as simple as Callahan and a 1st.

No, what makes more sense is to trade for Chris Stewart and a 2nd round pick.

Stewart, who hasn't eclipsed over 18 goals in any of the last 5 years, is head and shoulders better than Callahan offensively. But I digress, the potential must certainly be there, correct? And if the potential IS realized for us next year, you know what luxury we get to deal with? Another overzealous agent who will mark his client up to us and claim he is worth every penny he is asking for. So pretty much we'll get to go through the entire process again if the trade is successful, or we have to deal with the struggles Stewart is more than likely set to encounter.

What makes perfect sense, is to trade our most consistent player (in terms of sheer effort) for the St. Louis Blues' most inconsistent player, right?

Oh and to justify that this is a move that would "benefit the Rangers for the future" why not add in the Edmonton 2nd - a commodity that has a greater probability of failing than producing an NHL player.

But hey. To each his own.

Hfboards: The universe that exists where posters would rather have Chris Stewart and a 2nd round pick rather than Martin St. Louis for the same price.

Maybe...

But isn't it more fun to think of Sather spending the last month lazing around in an armchair and then doing something desperate at the last minute?

:shakehead you just have to keep insulting everyone don't you?

Some people probably think Im insulting people, others might think that Im adding some levity to a situation where a lot of people are talking out of their *****.

The important thing is, I really dont care.

Yes it could go several ways. No denying that. New information? Nope, but he didn't bury what is the biggest rumor of his career. Why would he say what he said when asked about his request for a trade, if it wasn't true? To me this at the very least confirms he did ask for a trade. What it doesn't say or not say is whether or not he still is.

So once again, the rumor lives on.

I think its time to start thinking that the Callahan and St. Louis situations have little to do with one another.

Hey, I'm not the one making leaps here. Just saying if that's the case. But that being said, who knows. Maybe Sather wants additional assets from Yzerman if he's ponying up additional assets as well. There really is no way to tell how this negotiation has gone from what we've heard out of the media. For all we know, it could have started as Callahan/Girardi for St Louis/Gudas. Does it really matter? Your characterization of Sather as being lazy is, and has always been, completely off base.

Have people taken into account. Why is it that Stewart, who is big, young, offensively talented, can skate decently well. Why is it that he can't find a fit on the Blues. The Blues have an awesome roster with a lot of talent. There is a position there for him, with young hungry competitive players, and he hasn't fit in there?

Thats not a question mark?

Sounds like Callahan is out the door, and Girardi will be staying as they are not far off.. smart move, Girardi is alot more important.
