imagine if he does not get traded and then signs with Buffalo :help: i can see the riots at MSG if that happened :sarcasm:

I said to my dad the other day that I sometimes think of this scenario and hope it happens, just to laugh at some of the people around here:

Sather doesn't move any of the UFAs and the Rangers win the Stanley Cup.

And then I remember... I wouldn't give a crap, because the Rangers will have won the Cup.

Regardless of right vs wrong, I still think Sather wants to see how well the team plays minus MZA against three difficult opponents before he makes a major move.

I don't know what everyone is so worked up about. The proof is always in the pudding with these sorts of rumors, you just sort of have to wait and see how things pan out.

I think it's because everyone just wants the season to get going again. So there's a lot of pent up in need to Rangers games, everyone just needs the fix. I will say it's been entertaining to read people getting so worked up about this.

well if the Rangers win the cup then i could not give a crap.. but think about like this what if they wont move Callahan and get knocked out in the 1st round by the Habs and then walks as an UFA :sarcasm:

Wait... isn't that right? Lol.

Yes, it was. Point is we saw this all play out before. Boomer gets an incredible lead that none of the usual suspects have, and everyone is convinced the football player can't be breaking such a big hockey story - he must be wrong. And then he's not.

on NHL network they are still talking about the Bolts young goaltending depth again.. talking about Kristers Gudlevskis.... and that russian goalie the Bolts have... i wonder what it would take for a kid like Andersen from the Ducks.. could he be in play in a deal for Girardi if he is traded?

Finally someone is saying it. Boomer may be wrong, but he's not an attention *****.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone higher up intentionally leaked this to Boomer for whatever purpose, whether it be Callahan resigning for less or to increase trade offers from other teams. He would have no reason not to trust the source 100%, but they might just be giving him misinformation.

I'd love for that to be true, again.

More likely they're trying to expedite the process and get the deal done quicker before Yzerman finds a reason to capsize it.

Putting it out into the public forum isn't a way to do that.

Bingo. I still maintain this is more about the Rangers getting it out there to Callahan that they are dead serious about trading him, rather than a deal in place for St. Louis.

Just want this to be over. This is turning into Nash 2.0....you know the inevitable is coming and you just want it to happen already

I dont want it to be a scare tactic though. I dont want to scare Callahan down from $6.5 million to $6 million. That is still way too much money for him.

Move him.

I believe this is a lovely sociology experiment.

Chiefly, how willing people are to abandon common sense to get something they want.

The deadline creates its own pressure. That's what it's there for. Putting it out in public risks a public response that gives him a way out.

What about pressure of swaying MSL.

Coincidence the news is leaked the day before MSL flies back?

More likely this is showing MSL that the Rangers are serious about trading for him. It's a public backing for the player they're getting. Something that the Lightning GM didn't do.

Very transparent move.

MSL, while fitting this coach's system better, and being the better offensive player - will resign for more cheaply for a shorter duration.

He will not be able to get much more than 3 years on the open market for a high contract yield. Rangers should know this.

He'll be 40 by the start of his next contract. He may not even want more than 1 yr deals.

A lot of flexibility. Callahan's contract is crippling. MSL's won't be.

All good points.

So one must wonder why Tampa Bay would be willing to trade him for a Callahan rental over something as trivial as an Olympic snub.

It doesnt add up. If St. Louis says he'll only go to the Rangers, yet the Rangers won't cough up anything but Callahan, Yzerman will tell him too bad.
