Stamkos was supposed to return this week. Now its next week.

Erik Erlendsson of the Tampa Tribune shot the rumor down. Marty is the captain and he wouldn't quit on his team over the Olympics.

On Team 1040 in Vancouver earlier today, Darren Dreger spoke about Ryan Callahan and the Marty St. Louis situation.

On the Marty St. Louis situation, Dreger said “I know the Rangers thought it was amusing, the speculation and rumor about St. Louis for Ryan Callahan. I can assure you that if that deal was ever proposed that the Rangers would make it instantly.”

On Ryan Callahan, Dreger said, “Ryan Callahan is on the trade block and that is not a news flash. We talked about that prior to the roster freeze and there were no contract talks that would lead me to believe that anything is going to change. Callahan is going to go into auction and you will have teams like Tampa Bay perhaps, perhaps the LA Kings kicking tires to see what the rate of return is going to be but we may not know what the rate of return is going to be until trade deadline day.”

Even the discussion about the Rangers acquiring St.Louis in the summer, for what? Callahan will be a Buffalo Sabre. The Rangers are trading what for a 39 year old player in the last season of his contract.

on NHL network they were talking with the guy from the Tampa tribune... does not think St.Louis will be moved but who knows at this point.. anything can happen..

and they mentioned the Bolts with their at young goaltending depth and talked a little about the Latvian kid...

why has the Glen Sather and management have neglected this part of the organization?? i see a lot of solid young goalies in the minors but the Rangers have AHL depth in their late 20s with no NHL in their future.. is it really hard to find a couple of goalies 20-23 with potential in the AHL??? :amazed:

But is Boomer REALLY sticking his neck out there? Will anyone really care if he's wrong? He can easily spin it to all 5 people that listen to his show for hockey. I listen to the show and hockey is generally covered for five minutes on Jerry Recco's speed updates.

Yup, and trade rumors/speculation is something commonly discussed on sports radio. I don't think fans of his show or Jets fan will think any less of him if he is wrong.

As far as putting his reputation on the line, I'm not even sure if discussing a trade rumor even registers on the radar. I mean, plenty of athletes have *****, cheated, doped, murdered, etc., yet they are still held in high esteem by many.

But think of all the jersey sales.

Posted this exact post on the Trade Boards...

Just watched Erik Erlendsson on NHL Network.

1. Although he didn't shoot down the rumor, he didn't rule it out either. Said that MSL literally just got back from Sochi, so there has been no chance to speak with him yet.

2. He mentioned the "quitting on the team" aspect and said that MSL is not the kind to do that kind of thing.

3. Also mentioned that MSL was CLEARLY upset that he was snubbed from Canada.

EJ Hradek then went onto mention that a couple of years back that there legit talks to bring MSL to the NYR and there could be legs to it. He also said that Boomer had nothing to prove by fabricating rumors and that he must have felt comfortable enough with his source, risking his credibility to leak information like this.

Isn't how they got Talbot?

We really need a new rumor, and soon.

Glen Sather held a press conference as he tells the media that he has solved the Rangers scoring issues and will lace the skates as a Ranger one last time in the near future during the 2013-2014 season..

:sarcasm:

Boomer said the pick was coming to the Rangers

The only problem is Brooks and McKenzie have reported the Rangers don't want to add. What do they know?

Well then Nils fails.

Either way the jist of what he said is enough to completely discredit him when you have other people being way off base on deals and then being praised? I could give two ***** about Esiason, or Brooks and whether one is more right than the other it's the semantic argument that irks me.

To answer your question, less than you apparently.

As for the Rangers, they're not about to start giving up draft picks, prospects or young players for a 38-year-old. So the Tampa-NYR fit doesn't appear to be there.

But the Rangers are not amenable to sending the required young pros, prospects and/or draft picks to the Lightning with Callahan in order to acquire St. Louis, who has a full no-move clause in his contract that expires after next season.

What do those hacks know?
