I think they should identify that they need to move Callahan, because unlike Lundqvist and some other free agents he carries significant risk of breaking down, plays the 2nd deepest position in the org, and is asking for more than the Rangers should be allocating. It sounds like that has happened.

It is my opinion that MSL for Cally does not vault them into the tier of teams I listed above. I would rather get assets that have a 5-10% chance of vaulting the Rangers into that tier for the next 10 years then see them chase waning production and short term fixes per usual.

that's a real slippery slope.....screams Leetch for Immonen and Kondratiev

hopefully MSL will enjoy NYC/MSG and put in a good word for stamkos once he hits UFA in another two years. stamkos has already said his favorite place to play is MSG! Stamkos at age 26 is actually worth the big bucks and big term.

i know a lot of fans feel the need is a a big forward, a big center and a dman that can score, well that is true but what most fans dont realize is that Rangers organization needs major depth upgrade in net at the minors..

what would it take from the Ducks to get Andersen back in a deal, could be available in a deal for Girardi???
or Jake Allen or Niklas Lundstrom from the Blues???

reason i ask is because for prospects that are in the minors it is important to have them around a winning atmosphere.

i know im not happy that the Wolfpack have not done much to upgrade this area.. signing AHL depth goalies that have no future at the NHL does not do much... suppose Talbot is out 3-5 weeks, Rangers dont have much at all. so i guess Sather wants to wait till a goalie in the Rangers organization breaks a collar bone or get a groin injury..

I think some of you are really missing the picture here.

Lundqvuist can go, what, 5-6 more years of elite level of playing... maybe?

Butterfly goalies tend to encounter more problems when they get older. Henrik has been having slower and slower starts. Inconsistency will likely become an issue as he gets older.

But we want a "future" plan?

The future plan was established 5-6 years ago. Dolan came out a few years ago saying that "Sather said they were close".

They're not selling off young assets in a last ditch attempt to win it all this year. They seem to be trying to win now (i.e the next 2-3 years) before they begin attempting their last ditch efforts with Hank.

That's the plan. Like it or not. Not the most ideal course of action but exciting that they seem to be committing to something that seems relatively soon.

Whats the latest rumor?

Boomer confirmed the deal he's heard and believes will get do e is Callahan for MSL and a conditional pick. Posters here have decided to do their own interpretation of Boomer's info.

Unless it's a top 1-8 pick, I think they're (draft picks) better used as trade chips.. But that's just the way I look at the NHL draft.. Usually there's a couple of sure fire NHL ready guy's, or guy's that are really close.. After that it's kind of a crap shoot... But again, just me.. The NHL draft is no where near as important to the organization as with the NFL/NBA.. Even less so to MLB, which is hard to fathom lol...

I know other's feel differently, and I get it..

"I'm gonna say Cally and a conditional 1st if he doesn't resign for MSL".

Armchair GM's. Don't let that anger you people.

we are in win now mode. that is exactly why we are even looking at MSL. Sather seems to think that an 80-90 point player who has playoff experience can help us win before the window that hank has given us closes. A walking Callahan, a couple of low level prospects, a late first round pick, or a reclamation project like Stewart will likely not help this team now or during Hanks remaining elite years. MSL on a year to year deal will help us during whatever years Hank has left. At worst he suddenly has an unlikely breakdown and becomes a 60 point player.

Yeah, because plenty of teams win Stanley Cups with rosters based primarily off of trades and free agent acquisitions...

The way I see it you either go for someone really good (like MSL, as bonkers as that would be), or solely picks/prospects (maybe a good young player like Nyquist).

A Chris Stewart and a 2nd is perhaps the worst possible return we could get. Doesn't do enough in the short- or long term.

I still want to swing a "Cally+Girardi somehow turns into Byfuglien" deal. But that is likely a three- or even four way trade and will never happen.

When are the Rangers ever not in "win-now" mode? Its always something with this franchise.

Now we have to scramble to salvage Lundqvist's career. If/when win-now doesn't secure a cup in those next several years, we'll be on to the next excuse to why "win now" is so necessary.

As opposed to the excuses for why not to win now?

Basically Bobby Mac thinks that it'll take more than Callahan which is what we all figured but I found this part the most interesting.

While none of the principals were confirming or denying anything in those days and weeks after the initial snub, talk in the NHL community was rife that St. Louis wanted out. There was even talk – again, nothing with an absolute confirmation -- that the only place St. Louis would waive his No Move Clause for was the New York Rangers. His off-season home is just outside NYC, in Connecticut.

I'm referring specifically to the draft. There are all kinds of moves made the can strengthen or weaken your organizational depth before, during and well after the draft. They may very well seem insignificant at the time.. But organizational depth isn't hinging on a 1st every year, but again, just me and I completely understand your point of view..

And that's the only way that this works, if Marty has basically demanded a trade to the Rangers and nobody else.
