I don't know why I should have a theory. I'm not a professional analyst. I don't know why it's more commendable to join the MSL herd than sitting it out on the sidelines and waiting to see what actually happens. I don't see a reason to get psyched about MSL when I think it's probably not happening. Future HOFer still playing at an amazing level for good 3rd liner as a rental. Family or not and even if he only requested a trade to NY, I doubt TB will get screwed like that. They'd get more. Maybe Cally were signed, but Boomer says he won't be. They're trading arguably the best player in their history that is playing at a very top level in the middle of a contending season for a 3rd liner for a few months. I'm sorry even if MSL asked to be traded to the Rangers and the Rangers only, why would Yzerman want to get bent over backwards like that. Does Yzerman like MSL more than his own legacy as a GM. If I were a TB fan and Stevie Y did that trade I'd riot outside of their arena.

I agree with all this, I'm just saying a hacked Twitter account is unlikely, and no you don't need to take a stance. Yes it is a horrible deal for Tampa Bay.

seems like tomorrow or never

Agree with this, Boomer sounds like this will be ASAP. I don't think they linger on it either because if this trade were to go down it would be very clear MSL asked for it. There wouldn't be much to deliberate on if the price is already agreed upon.

That's true, but he did say it was definitely a Cally deal. So who does he get re-united with? Dubinsky? He said no to Columbus. Not Olympic line-mates since they are both out West.

I mentioned this before, but I don't think he ever actually did say that his crazy blockbuster necessarily was the long-expected Callahan trade.

He did discuss the fact that he believes Callahan will be traded in the same thread, yes, but I don't think he ever confirmed that he was involved in the rumor he was breaking.

I'm telling you guys who ever has twitter needs to ask him if this thing is going down first thing tomorrow.

Not sure if everyone remembers but MSL was heavily rumored to be traded here 2 deadlines ago. It's been brewing for a bit and Marty must have decided its time. If he only wants to go here to retire and slats knows this via Richie he's gonna stick to his guns. Yzermen knows this as well and has to take the best deal he can consider; justifying one captain for another.

And MSL didn't play on a line with Richards.

Not accurate torts stacked them all the time

Obviously the reuniting doesn't have to be as specific as line mates Jesus they won cup together grew up in Tampa train together

Not sure why people aren't seeing it already. Initially (last night) I was thinking Simmonds.. But after putting a couple of days of crumbs together it's fairly obvious, to me anyway...

Boomer drops his first, and most telling clue.. "Marty, Marty, Marty.. Only in a good way"..

Final game of the Olympics, " Whew, players involved in trade made it through healthy". Considering the players on the ice this morning, combined with the initial breadcrumb.. Hmmm..

Reuniting Peaches & Herb.. Narrows it down even further.. These players have played together before.

Also, not once has Boomer said no to MSL, he doesn't seem to have issues ruling every other guy off the list when asked..

For those wondering why Tampa would make such a trade... Possible player has a NTC and wants out, also has a really short list of possible destinations...Front office respects said player enough to get a deal done without a lot of drama surrounding the situation..

Pretty nice summation.

Classic.

I was rebutting the point that not being a linemate of Callahan's in the Olympics doesn't mean that can't be what he was referring to.

I can see this, but the biggest thing going on in Tampa right now is spring training. Don't think the backlash of trading MSL will be so rough on the GM. You could also look at it as Tampa turning the page on the Vincent L/MSL era.. and moving forward with the Stamkos era... There could very well be more pieces involved Boomer isn't aware of... Hmmm

I don't get it. Why doesn't Boomer just come out and what the rumored deal is? Is he not allowed to break the trade?

I think so. I think Rangers brass told Boomer to break it (without revealing names, play this sort of guessing game with the fans) in advance of it happening to allow fan base to digest it and so that the PR people could get a glimpse into what public perception would be.

Again only reason this trade happens is bc MSL said trade me or I will retire over the offseason. This is not a strictly hockey value trade if it happens. It only happens bc of the dynamic events that happened.

Dude can you imagine being MSL and on the day the Canadian team was announced, your either about to head into the training faculty or you are there and you hear your name wasn't called. And the guy is who made the call is in the other freaking room. Everyone is different and the possible reactions to it range as infinity as people do. My dad has said to me on a few occasions said the snub, how are the two of them going to co-exist especially it being a player of st. louis' stature. (no pun intended)

He never directly linked the crazy deal to Callahan, you are right. He did say however Saturday night Cally was a done deal so long as there is no injury. He then proclaimed there were no injuries to players involved in his blockbuster after the gold medal game ended today. A loose link, but a link.

If that's not the case then we are potentially dealing with two trades.

If it is MSL that we would land, he must have asked for a trade and with his NMC pushed for the Rangers.
It would be telling if the Rangers put him on a line with Richards, but I still don't see how this affects Richards potential buyout. St. Louis is 38 years old and only signed thru next season. Richards is more of a long-term issue that they will have to let go.
Conditional pick that Boomer referenced early, would be if Callahan re-signed in Tampa. It's not out of the realm of possibility that he would, as they do have a quality young team. Yea its not his home in Buffalo, but Buffalo will be starting a fresh rebuild so I dont know if thats much more appealing. If Callahan somehow changes his mind on $ before tomorrow, that maybe the Rangers still have a chance to re-sign him but its unlikely.

If it's St. Louis and we do buyout Richards in the offseason, I'm guessing we'll have between $5 and 7 million to work with after we sign our own guys. Do we pursue a free agent center to replace Richards, or does Miller get a spot? I think Statsny would be out of reach if we bring on St. Louis, unless TB eats a little salary which is doubtful.

Sorry I am rambling now.

He did say he expects the player to be in the lineup against the Blackhawks Thursday and that he believes that the deal would happen rather quickly.

Okay so link someone to Callahan? You're making conjecture about why the link doesn't have to be to the person they are trading for, so make a connection that fits within the rest of the puzzle that is not MSL.

Ok that may be true. It was just my hypothesis. Just seems so convoluted. There are only so many players in the league and it seems like he said no to all of them.

The Rangers front office really knows how to leak information to sway PR in their favor. They did it with Prust who was a fan favorite when they leaked what he was asking for to almost turn the fans against him and they have prepared everyone mentally for a Callahan trade because the vast majority of Ranger fans (mainly people that don't post here) would freak out if Callahan was traded out of nowhere.

At this point, it'd be such a letdown if MSL is not a Ranger. One of my favorite players in the leauge and IMO best winger.

Not sure if this is posted already...

But I found this in a thread at the trade section of the main Board;

Okay, so after going through contracts on CapGeek, I trimmed it down to these 11:

Datsyuk
Barkov
Jurco
Girgensons
Kopecky
Tatar
St. Louis
Ruutu
Grabner
Alfredsson
Plekanec

Boomer said "he respects the player", so I think we can eliminate the names of the 20 and Unders on that list, so that cuts it down to 8 and leaves us with:

Datsyuk
Kopecky
Tatar
St. Louis
Ruutu
Grabner
Alfredsson
Plekanec
