He's the ONLY hockey aficionado in NY Sports talk. He's not the most knowledgeable, but he is by far the most knowledgeable in the NY sports talk ring. He's a season ticket holder and loves the Rangers.

It's not unusal for men to care about their families and wanting to be close to them. This is what will drive the trade, not the Olympic snub. Remember Pronger asked for a trade because of family reasons.

Places like San Jose, Nashville, Carolina, St. Louis offer players similar options to CT or Long Island. Bergen county in NJ too.

not sure if this was posted yet, but my dad just told me yzerman stepped down as GM of team canada this morning.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is trying to infer that this would make sense from a value-for-Tampa standpoint - even if you add a pick, even if St. Louis is promising to do everything short of go on strike if he stays, there are other teams in the league.

The only way you can theorycraft it into something halfway logical is if he wants out that badly and his ties to Richards and the area mean he only wants to wear a Rangers sweater. That sounds wonderful, I hope more great players can't imagine themselves anywhere else but MSG, but it's a bit of a perfect storm and we wouldn't be talking about it if not for it adding up with the Encyclopedia Brown stuff.

perhpas he realized not picking marty, pissed him off, prompted him to demand a trade, and completely screwed his team chance for winning the cup

Besides, who here knows who Boomer respects and doesn't?

I don't know why I should have a theory. I'm not a professional analyst. I don't know why it's more commendable to join the MSL herd than sitting it out on the sidelines and waiting to see what actually happens. I don't see a reason to get psyched about MSL when I think it's probably not happening. Future HOFer still playing at an amazing level for good 3rd liner as a rental. Family or not and even if he only requested a trade to NY, I doubt TB will get screwed like that. They'd get more. Maybe Cally were signed, but Boomer says he won't be. They're trading arguably the best player in their history that is playing at a very top level in the middle of a contending season for a 3rd liner for a few months. I'm sorry even if MSL asked to be traded to the Rangers and the Rangers only, why would Yzerman want to get bent over backwards like that. Does Yzerman like MSL more than his own legacy as a GM. If I were a TB fan and Stevie Y did that trade I'd riot outside of their arena.

That's true, but he did say it was definitely a Cally deal. So who does he get re-united with? Dubinsky? He said no to Columbus. Not Olympic line-mates since they are both out West.
 
Unless MSL demanded a trade, there is absolutely no reason for TBL to trade him while they're in a great position in the standings.
