Olympics are a big deal. Marty's won everything in his career except that Olympic gold.

I'd be pissed too if the GM for the team can't recognize the achievements I've made with the team, particularly pointing to the Art Ross Trophy. He's already been omitted by Yzerman last Olympics, despite being one of the best wingers in the leauge.

FWIW, Eklund is pushing Cally for Yak in tonight's trade updates on his page.

Also mentioned Evander Kane to Isles.

I don't think the guy is St. Louis. Tampa is surging. St. Louis has a NMC. Could very well be him, but I don't think so.

I do however think it may be Nicklas Backstrom. Just a gut. Doesn't agree with what Boomer said about the returning player's contract length (he said it was short, NB's is pretty long) but he's a player that makes sense to me that the Rangers would target. 1c for the future.

id love him on the Rangers.... but i doubt Capitals deal him unless for a number 1 dman..

We gut the middle of our roster for Nash, because we have scoring issues, we trade Gaborik to recoup some of that middle depth, the team struggles to maintain scoring, deals Nash for X.

I'd believe it. Just like Sather to do it.

That would be.....very out of character for him to do. Hmmmmm.....

I posted a couple of times something akin to that. Although I have to say we only see what the media wants us to see with most of these guys. Unless guys are super outspoken the only way we know how classy a guy is is by what the media tells us. Reminds me of how everyone thought Tiger was clean cut. Plus, let's face it asking for a trade while not really meeting our stereotype of what we think of MSL, but I wouldn't call that classless.

He was omitted in 2010? Was Yzerman his GM in 2010?

Does anyone think the player coming back WAS in the East and then was dealt West? Richards. Carter. Etc.

Not saying it is, or should be those players but maybe the player coming back was hated but was dealt?

Kassian? Maybe Torts wants him back? Hated player. Was in Buffalo.

Just trying to think outside the box

I remember MSL didn't make the 2010 team.

And I swear Yzerman was GM. My memory is a bit foggy though.

Think about it, 2 straight Olympic snubs for arguably the best winger over the past 4 years by your own team's GM! What message does that send to the player that your boss doesn't want you to represent your country?

Nail Yakupov was born in the Eastern Hemisphere for what it's worth.

I'm a sucker for a hockey rumor, but I'm not gonna fall for Eklund, I'm a discerning hockey rumor swooner.

does this latest tweet shine light on him going to rags or staying?

Gotta remember this story is just breaking in Tampa, where MSL has been a Mr Everything for them.
It's a big deal for their fans.

So expect denials, backpeddling, and cross-currents of info.

It softens the blow.

FWIW St. Louis has carried TB's offense this year not Stamkos. Yzerman bent over backwards to make sure that an injured Stamkos had every chance to be on that team and St. Louis might feel a bit disrespected.

Anyone who wanted to know about Tiger could've known. It was widely known on tour what he did... What a womanizer he was... long before he wrapped his car around a fire hydrant. People openly wondered why he was getting married. It made no sense other than he wanted kids.

Ah, there's Kyper pushing the story along right now;

everyone plays their part nicely; pretty transparent stuff.

Odd that would pop up now LOL;

C'mon now, Todd. I know that this serves your narrative, but by the same token, Boomer's REALLY been pumping this story for over a day now and this is the logical fallout.

You've got a nationally recognized sports figure/talking head - one who has broken a couple of stories in the past 12 months - hinting about a possible trade. Twitter's afire with it (especially due to his coy behavior) and the fans have picked it up. They've spent the last 24 hours reaching out to tell every other reporter in the land that this lead has arisen and are asking them to provide more information about it. It's now topical. The reporters all investigate (at least those of them who are worth their salt), their sources give them varying portions of the story and they come back to report what they know.

I'm not saying that the deal doesn't go down, but I highly doubt every report coming out now is part of some grand scheme being orchestrated by the man behind the red, white and blue curtain. It's what happens every time a high profile individual breaks a rumor. Heck, in the past, the TSN guys have felt compelled to comment on Eklund leads that have built up sufficient momentum.

I think he was, but he wasn't the TB GM yet, was he?

Bylsma and Babcock weren't the only NHL coaches over there. The assistants coach too. Not to mention yzerman and Poile, who wasn't physically there. I forget the assistants on the teams.

I'd hate to see Cally and an asset go for msl, not disrespect to Marty. But I'm worried about losing haglin or mcdonagh. They were the most talked about rangers outside of hank and they really showed up.

Cally and hangs for msl sucks for the big picture. Get smaller and lose that speed.

Losing mcdonagh for anything short of Malkin? Keith? With cap hit and age, he's top notch. Im not panicking or jumping to conclusions... just piecing together the rumors. Just worst case scenarios in my opinion.

Much rather see marchand or toffoli for Callahan.

Not naming names figure it out,, nash cally Stepan maybe in play ? Lol think of this who was just coached in the Olympics and what teams do those coaches coach in the nhl

Did boomer ever say it was cally being traded??

Could they be trading Nash??

And stepan,cally, mcdounagh with byslma

No not saying that at all. Said maybe a Olympic coach or gm fell in love with one of our pieces

If that is the case, then its one of the following:

Babcock wants Nash
Bylsma wants (in order of most likely) Callahan, Stepan, McD (Can't see McD being moved without a king's ransom)
Nolan (Latvia) saw one of the above that he liked
Hitchcock (Canada Asst Coach) saw one of the above that he liked
Julien (canada Asst Coach) saw one of the above that he liked

MSL did NOT make that team, and yes Yzerman WAS the GM for canada. (for what it's worth, he must have had inside lines to the TBL Front office, because he was crowned GM after the end of that season.)

Ok, then Marvin Harrison. The media made out to be a saint and then you heard how he shot someone. The media makes heroes and villains and it's usually at the very least not 100% true. MSL is "class" "team first", and all of that. But we don't know all of the details of what goes on in the dressing room. I also can see him getting pissed after being snubbed from such an honor from his GM. Say you're consistently a top 2 performer in your company for over 10 years, in fact the other guy is out for a while with an illness and you get no bonus, or a very low bonus, and get passed over for a promotion. Would you not be loyal to your company if you thought about leaving? Why is it different for a hockey team? And this is coming from someone that said just recently there's no way this is the case. But he looked pissed in that video.

Sather is not the greatest of GMs but there is no way he's moving McDonagh after the performance he had in the olympics short of getting a generational talent for him.
