I expected to return and find this place in a tizzy over Brooks story.
I see some mention of it, but I'd caution to grasp why you're reading what you're reading when you're reading it;
The Rangers are trying to time this announcement out.
Again, they would never burn one of their own personalities like Boomer on something like this.
Now what's relevant in Brooks article is that they are in fact interested in MSL, and Callahan's name has plainly been attached.
The business about him being a rental and there may or may not picks is all scenery that will unfold likely the latest being the next 96 hours or so (I say 96 only because I dont believe Callahan suits up for us again, and next game is Thursday). it could happen much quicker.
But remember, Brooks story is fed to him based on a time lag of likely 2-3 days. Any good GM is going to stay ahead of the story, put out there what he wants. But Brooks publishing means its the first appearance in general NY media among beat guys. it's significant. The deal, whatever its final parameters, will stun no one after that. And they may still be haggling over some fine points. But I believe the deal is essentially done, and we're in the rollout phase. I've heard some anticdotal evidence that further supports what most interpret Boomer's claims to be.
And everything appears on point. Doesnt mean it's a lock, it takes central registry and an announcement to be formalized.
But because a Dreger (who btw, was a total ***** for his family members there with the Leafs during the MDZ talks, which stunned a lot of people in it's brazenness) or McKenzie hasn't seconded Boomer or even Brooks account means zilch. They haven't been fed yet. On past behavior, one of them may not be.
But the story has real legs.
