I don't know man, I think a lot of people are going to feel pretty burned. I definitely would be taking anything he said going forward with a very tiny grain of salt.

Even if he had a good reason why the potential trade did not go down, and what the trade was going to be. You're right it happens, but you can't take that risk if you want to keep your reputation in tact.

Not saying that there won't be blowback if we end up getting Ruutu or something but I thought more people would be engaging with Boomer about this. I guess it all happened pretty fast and people without places like HF wouldn't have picked up on it all.

I think more than anything Brooks' article shows that Boomer had a legit rumor. And is more right than wrong.

To me that "deal is off" Brooks article is classic negotiating through the media. Saw the same thing through the Nash trade saga.

In the end Nash came to NY because he had a NMC and he demanded a trade to NY. Since that is the only reason Tampa would ever move MSL...it all adds up.

Brooks' article says Sather inquired about a Callahan for St. Louis swap and Tampa has zero interest, which makes perfect sense from every angle.

Sather's laziness never ceases to amaze me. Targeting young players in a trade for multiple pieces is a lot of work. A 38 year year old Martin St. Louis, however.....

It's not always Sather who does all the work. He has Gorton, Clark, Schoenfeld, Hedberg, Luchenko, etc. who give him input. This isn't like the 70s when it was a handful of guys, all staffs now have a dozens of people who give input.

Remember when the Rangers were struggling in 06-07 before Girardi and Callahan came up and Mara was added? Jagr was rumored to be dealt but it was all just scenarios.

There are 100s of trades discussed sometimes obscene ones but it's all GMs and their staff with due diligence.

Mr. glass half empty.

Any potential positives in a move Sather makes, ever?

It happens a fair amount. Guys like Dreger and McKenzie have plenty of missed rumors on their resume.

Which is of course why you want to see 3,4 or even 5 guys reporting it before you're really sure. Even then, if it doesn't go down within the subsequent 24 hours, doubt starts to enter the picture.

Couple weeks ago I suggested Hags might be on the move.

Wouldn't surprise me. Not a perfect fit in AV's offense... especially on the 2nd line.

I think what typically happens is someone who's actually reputable will report the trade as being agreed upon pending the trade-call in the morning. By someone reputable I mean not Boomer Esiason.

your a clown to think boomer is doing this for ratings or more listeners/viewership.. he never just bull****s, or makes things up just cause..

if you know anything about boomer the dude LOVESSSS hockey.. i bet if he could choose being a pro nfl qb with the career he had or a NHL player he'd chose hockey.. guy loves it..

this is very similar to when john buccigross said NY fans willl be very happy back in 2012... right before the nash trade went down.. keep an open mind.. the media or these reports don't hype it up and make things crazy... the fans doo.. lets watch and see...

Don't like this little tidbit in the article:

Sather, who has thus far been willing to go five years for approximately $6 million per (perhaps a tad more) to keep Callahan in New York, appears committed to dealing the 28-year-old, two-time USA Olympian to the highest bidder rather than allowing him to escape scot-free on July 1.

According to some here Bob Mac is infallible and everything he says is always 100% correct or tapped in to the source. :D

Yea, that they usually help partially rectify some of his initial massive blunders.

This Callahan situation has been a reality for months. 10 days before the trade deadline and one of the top plans was a 38 year old Martin St. Louis?

Excuse me if Im not encouraged.

I never said he made it up. I do think he heard something, ran with it and is now using it to pimp his show. I'm sure there was some talk of big deal involving the Rangers, but I really doubt it's as close to happening as he's making it seem.

Its either downgrade Callahan for a guy like Stewart and a pick, or add something significant for an upgrade. I wouldn't be happy if it were your ordinary aging star, but MSL is a special case. MSL + prospect for Cally/conditional first when MSL signs a 2 year extension

What do you really think they can get for Callahan? A rental who wants $7MM per, which if he gets will make him Bobby Holik Jr? Yes, St. Louis is 38, but still has something left, is signed to a very friendly deal next year Not always going to get prospects/picks in this type of situation.

Quick...someone dig out their album covers of Abbey Road & Sgt. pepper to look for clues. I think it's the player crossing the street who is barefoot and not wearing skates...or is it the one not wearing the helmet or maybe the one wearing the road jersey while the others are dressed in home jerseys? Oh...and the walrus was Paul...or was it MSL?

One could look at a return of young players and picks and be disappointed too. Many young players and picks don't turn into NHL players.

Meanwhile, one could look at a St. Louis for Cally swap and determine that the player coming back fits the coach's system much better and be satisfied.

I don't know if i'll buy much into the age factor. Jagr is 42 and outplaying many players younger than him - significantly younger too.

St. Louis isn't the long term answer you want but that doesn't mean Sather is lazy or that the package is bad.

MSL could mentor the rookies for the 1.5 years he's here, be a fixture on our line for that duration, or even be used as trade material at the deadline next year.

Those seem like good options to me.

Boomer definitely has someone high up in the organization feeding him info. Just like when Neil Smith used to leak things to Dellapina years ago. He was the only person who mentioned Kline for Del Zotto, was the only person who mention Avery coming back when he did. I would take what he says a lot more seriously than something from someone like Larry Brooks.

We had Olli a couple years ago. He didn't look like he had much in the tank.

Its busted thinking from Sather in every way. First of all, its a pipe dream that Tampa would accept. Whatever, that doesnt bother me.

What bothers me is I think Callahan could fetch a young roster player, a prospect, and a pick. But because thats not sexy enough, or whatever delusions the front office has, the gameplan is to go fishing for aging stars?

I am still holding out hope we'll see a move that exhibits foresight, patience, and some sort of strategy to build a team.
