I can't see him getting less than 5 on the open market. Jagr just got 6 mill at age 42.
Now, if we could trade Nash for a nice young, affordable center and sign Gaborik/Vanek/Moulson, it could be a proactive step.
But we can't trade Nash so it's back to square one.

lol, and I wouldn't mind Paul Stastny for $4M a year, but that isn't happening. Gaborik will probably get a ~three year deal worth around ~$5.5M per.
Besides, we've already been there and done that. Love Gaborik when he was here, but I would not even consider pursuing him. The team needs a bit more size, forechecking ability, and net front presence from their forwards. Gaborik isn't going to give them any of that.

They wouldn't trade it to us unless we are giving the more than 1 roster player. They want a first round pick near the top back..Probably would be like Stepan ++ or Kreider++
Agreed.
I'd prefer to roll w/Brassard + other options and keep Kreider, the only beast we have, and add to him.
What do you suggest for Stepan +?
Feel free to differentiate between highest you'd pay and what you think it would take...

Wouldn't even know where to start, to be honest. I'm still not sure with the way the Panthers are going if they are going to commit to a full rebuild, or if they're going to go for it with Bobby Lu back in the fold. They're a team only on the up. A guy like Bennet, Reinhart, or Ekblad has teh potential to be a franchise guy for them, so it's interesting to see that they're willing to deal.
I'd start with:
Hagelin
Miller
Allen/Hrivik
Our earliest 2014 pick (pending condition to Tampa Bay)
That gets laughed at on HF since firsts are wildly overrated, but it's a decent jumping off point for negotiations IMO.

None of that makes sense for Florida.
They'd want a talented young defenseman that has top pairing potential that's ready to step in and be that.

How good are the prospects? Like can they play now? I don't want to trade roster players for a guy that's gunna be in the ahl... Maybe we can trade miller mcilrath and a pick. Florida is in complete rebuild mode. They just got Lou because makestrom wasn't working out...
They are not in a full rebuild, they want NHL ready young players. So yes, they would want a defenseman but I am pretty sure they would want a roster player because we don't have a defenseman they would want besides McD so they might as well draft Ekblad.
This is the least i could see them taking -
Hagelin, Allen, Miller, draft pick....
Well the thought is the top picks can make an impact in the NHL immediately, and if not maybe 1 season in the AHL at most.
Don't think it's enough, and I can't believe another team won't make a more competitive offer.

We'll have a #3 center that hasn't proven he can play at the NHL level and 3 #4 centers (one of which hasn't played in the NHL) as our center depth.
You also got rid of our best forward this year.
I literally don't understand your thought process.
Grass is much greener I guess.
And if we're lucky Ekblad becomes a bit better than Girardi in 4-5 years and the 2015 pick is as good as Stepan. Meanwhile we gut our team (Ott as 1st line C!!!) just to get a slight upgrade in two positions in 5 years - by which time MSL and Nash are gone and Lundqvist probably on the decline. Horrible trade and TBL probably gets McDavid.

That is the ugliest looking roster I've ever seen. Guaranteed last place finish for sure.
I don't know how you could post that as a serious option.
