How would people feel if we were to sign Diaz and have him compete with McIlrath and Allen for that last RD spot?

I'm not a fan of handing kids roster spots, but rather making them earn it. Diaz is fine as a 3rd pair guy, and will likely be pretty cheap, so I'd be for signing him. When/if McIlrath or Allen are ready, we will know it.

Diaz is at $1.225
Stralman at $1.7
Falk $.975 RFA

How much will each cost next year?
Diaz $1.6?
Stralman $3ish
I agree with the above - let diaz/McI/Allen fight it out.

No, he didn't. His agent denied that.

Marc Levine said the Brooks report was false. Did the Rangers make an offer and it wasn't 3/$9M? Did the Rangers make an offer? What did the agent deny? Which part of the report was not true?

Anton Stralman’s agent, Marc Levine, told the Daily News via email on Sunday that a report of the Rangers’ defenseman rejecting a contract offer believed in the three-year, $9 million range was “false.†Levine did not elaborate. …

Stralman should be able to get more than 3 years and $3M per assuming the Brooks report was correct. Brooks has good info on Callahan and Girardi. Stralman is 27 and a righty shot. The rest of the free agent D are all old guys. Niskanen is also 27. He should get a good contract. Markov and Boyle have been good NHL players but both of them are 35+ plus contracts. Timonnen is another old guy. Pitkanen missed all of the season with the foot injury. Quincey is up and down. Meszaros is up and down. Not much there.

Very good questions, but I'm guessing that IF Sather gave them an offer it would be a lot less than 3x3. He's making 1.7 now and negotiations usually start with a lowball kinda offer. I'm guessing around 2y/5m or 3y/7m or something like that.

The NHL and NHLPA are working cooperatively, we’re told, on devising a formula for 2013-14 revenue that would ensure the 2014-15 cap is set at $70 million.

http://nypost.com/2014/03/29/sochi-didnt-stop-fans/

The NHL projected revenue at $3.6B. The Canadian dollar has being dropped since the start of the season. The CBA allows the NHL and NHLPA to include the TV money for next season in the 14-15 cap. They can work the numbers to set the cap at $70M. $68M in the upper limit for $3.6B. Lower exchange rate would mean less than $3.6B. Add the TV money, the cap could be set at $70M.

Larry had a funny line

Now that Chris Kreider is down, you get the idea that Rob McClanahan would pass for a power forward if he still played for the Rangers.

McClanahan was 5-10. He would be a power forward on this team.

Some nights he was a dominant force... all of the tools are there, just not every night.

Yeah, it will come. He isn't there yet, but he will become a good player for sure.

We have Nash, Pouliot, Kreider and Boyle with some size. If we are keeping Zucc -- along with Step, Hags, Brass, MSL, JT Miller and co -- we need another one. We definitely need to keep Pouliot too...

I hope that all of these guys are resigned this offseason. This team is good as his, no need to scrounge $ for cap savings especially with it going up

Just for the record, I cringe everytime I see the alternatives in the poll in this thread.

Instead of taking a crap trade return of some kind of B-tier prospect and 2nd round pick for Cally, and instead of dumping all those picks on Tampa -- would it have been so horrible to keep Cally for the rest of the year? I never got the OMG WE CAN*T LET HIM WALK-talk....

Its like some, Slats included, make up their mind about something one year and then they just can't adjust. There was no market for Cally. Its like the decision to move him was made when the return was predicted to be acceptable.

Diaz seems to be a player that's fits the Canadians but they wanted to get tougher. He's a good fit with us as well but might fall victim to same scenario with us next yr. I don't think av will play mac if he's not ready but we all saw how the pyatt situation worked itself out.

THN top 5 compliance buyouts

Ville Leino is #1

2. Brad Richards, C, New York Rangers

(Six years left, $6.7-million cap hit)

Seeing what Jaromir Jagr has done at 42 and even what Jarome Iginla has done at 36, Richards sure seems like an old 33, doesn’t he? Too much mileage, too many years left, too many dollars for someone who can no longer function as a team’s No. 1 pivot.

Richards is the Rangers 3rd center. He plays all of those minutes on the PP. In some games,he plays almost the full two minutes. Its painful to watch. The PP stinks again.

Sather will never admit he made a mistake and tried to get MSL to light a fire under his ass. Let's just say, Sather ain't doin Marty any favors playing him with the beaver. Buy-out imminent, now with Marty here, we need to sign Stastny if we can give him Brad's Cap hit.

Getting MSL makes it easier to buy-out BR for sure. We would have been short on players who can take responsibility offensively, and no matter what people say loosing BR too would have hurt us. You don't want too much pressure and responsibility on younger players who can't handle it.

I think Miller is ready for a top 3 line role, and MSL is a good winger for him, or Zucc/Nash.

If we loose BR, getting more of a offensive punch from the blue line would sure help.

IMO Diaz is a better fit here than Klein. Klein has been very mediocre lately. Diaz stepped into the lineup and instantly made an impact.

Diaz would be a more than acceptable replacement for Stralman if the need arises.

Hopefully Klein gets it together going into the playoffs...if we can manage to get a point...pathetic how this team sqanders opportunities.

Going to have to trade for that player. And they don't come cheap. The best-case scenario would be we trade for one on the verge of cracking an NHL lineup. Ryan Sproul or Adam Clendenning for example.

Otherwise, would Dan Boyle take a short-term contract? At a reasonable cap hit? Probably not.

Yeah, but I don't mind any cost. That role is easily more valuble than just about any role other than center maybe.

Our situation with offensive Ds I becoming like Philly's situation with goalies. Unacceptable.
