I'm 90% sure the leafs won't be resigning Cody Franson, he's a good right-handed bottom pairing D-man with PP specialty and I heard Sather was interested in his earlier on this season, I'm curious what would you guys give up for Franson??

I personally would give up maybe a 3rd rounder.

Sather might be willing to move more.

Will he be a liability 5v5?

Can he actually move the puck or does he just have a nice shot?

As for the first point, I really think the MSG ice is why scorers have trouble putting up points with us. Even with the renovations, we have some of the worst ice in the league.

As for the second point, our best PMD ever in Leetch we got by sheer dumb luck. It was a great draft pick. Redden was a huge flop and everyone saw it coming. For years, our organizational philosophy has been to go safe (for the most part) in the early rounds and take risks later on. Staal, Miller, Skjei, and Del Zotto were all safe picks.

This draft will be very telling with how much input each member of the organization has in who we draft. If we go safe and American, Gordie Clark really has a lot of say. If we go with someone like Honka or Pastrnak in the 1st round, I would say AV and the coaching staff have a lot of weight. Time will tell.

As an aside, Stastny won't be worth what he'll get. I was singing a different tune when Thornton was still on the market, but now Stastny will be the most highly coveted guy. If Brassard is back, I'd rather get another 2/3 center that's good on faceoffs. A guy like David Legwand comes to mind on a 2 or 3 year deal. Use the extra couple million to help give raises to our young guys. Legwand would be a good mentor for JT Miller.

I've been advocating for legwand since the deadline now and I think he's going to be an affordable and more than viable 2C option for us... Will it happen? Idk... But if the center depth was:

Stepan
Legwand
Brassard
Moore

Its a cheap lineup for center depth and yet the depth is still there..

He isn't a liability if you give him less than 20 mins a game (16-18mins ideal) versus mediocore competition

He can skate the puck but he's very slow if he does skate it out he can actually deke his way into the opposing blueline, and he has a really good shot (he hasn't used it much this season for whatever reason), his signature shot is a half-slapper that is very accurate, and it puck goes off his stick in about half the time of a regular slap shot yet just as fast.

^ His signature shot

How is his passing ability?

Thank you for your replies.

He's slow and pretty bad defensively. Not the smartest player, either.

I consider him a slightly better version of Kurtis Foster, and that's being generous. He's got a great shot, but that's the only part of his game that stands out to me in a good way. He can make some nice passes too, I guess, but he's not really a playmaker.

The Rangers need a quick, smart, dynamic presence from the blue line. McDonagh is great, but we need more than just him contributing semi-regularly on offense. We have no real offensive specialist on the blueline, and we desperately need one.

Perceived issues. Maybe he should enjoy Winnipeg, you know the place where racists attacked him shortly after the team relocated. The place whose team sucks and management basically refuses to do anything that could be seen as a "big" move...

I take it you skipped math class? The alligator eats the bigger option which is loosely translated to "better" on the internet.

E. Staal
l has an 8.25m a year cap hit, average point production? 73.

Over rated.

Good god, what an ass. If he was racially taunted, it would have been big news. He was trying to use the race card, unsuccessfully. Also, I don't see Big Buff making accusations of racism. I guess he gets a free pass up there cuz he's lighter skinned black.

I'll take Staals production on that **** team he's been on.

Franson can be a decent player when he's paired with a guy who will cover for him. Good mobility and passing, and he has a huge shot which is a plus asset. However, he doesn't use his size enough, his gap control is lousy, and he's prone to chasing players around the defensive zone and missing coverage. I think he'd benefit from AV's offensive system, but in man-coverage in the defensive zone? Yikes.

This team definitely needs a legitimate PPQB though. If/when Richards is bought out, that's a whole lot of PP time to replace. I'd be really surprised if Dan Boyle wasn't wearing a Rangers jersey in the fall. Typical half-assed move to address a major need. "Best PMD available on the market! Won a cup! Now we just have to build the PP around him to counter-act the fact he's a shell of his former self."

Speaking of which, what kind of center do we need to find to jump-start MSL's game? :sarcasm:

Dan Boyle...ugh, I could totally see it.

I'll just ignore the first half cause it's pointless, if all you have is "attitude issues" to go on as an argument against a player it's not worth talking about. A lot of athletes have had "attitude issues" and turned into stars, remember how mad Richard Sherman made everyone before the Super Bowl?

I won't let that stop me from being interested in a talented player, especially one who would benefit from a change of scenery. We have a really tight knit core I'm not worried about someone blowing it up. I also don't worry about a 22 yr old with "attitude issues" there is a good chance they'll grow up.

Carolina hasn't been bad forever, but since '05-'06 Staal has put up 80pts once, everything else is basically 75 or less. For 8.25m I think it would be wise if we just stay away.

Yeah no thanks to Legwand as a 2. He's only scored 20 goals twice and he'll be 34 when the season starts. As a 3? Ok. But if Stepan Brassard Legwand is the top 3 next year it's gonna be a long year

Yeah, no thanks. Kid has major attitude issues and is already signed to a big contract. Stay away, stay FARRRRR away.

I would take Evander Kane on this team in a NY minute.

Attitude issues and all. Most of those stories are blown out of proportion anyway.

Get him back to his 25+ goals and 50+ point totals?

Done and done.

Depends on the price, but the supposed attitude issues are of no concern....at all.

Who are the Rangers trading for Kane or Staal? The Rangers are not dripping in assets these days. Sather has traded away nearly every top pick from 2013 until 2016. They don't have many young assets. Its become an older team. THN future watch ranked the Rangers 30th overall and many got bent out of shape. Whether they should have been 25th or 30th(like it really matters),this organization is headed on the wrong track. They will resemble the current Canucks or the Flames until this season on the path the Rangers have taken. Who are the Rangers trading for Evander Kane? Another 3 or 4 for 1 trade.

Um what

Franson is slow as dog ****.

What? There's like 4 players on the team over 30, but okay.

How are they of "no concern at all"? You're just okay with him having problems with not one coach, but two coaches, in the same season? Paul Maurice said he can solve his issues by showing up to the rink.

Sounds like a great player to add to our locker room!

you think the jets would do hagelin, john moore, and fast for Kane?

buyout richards (knock on wood); replace him with JT Miller. Replace J. Moore with Allen. Let Stralman walk if he wants too much money. Re-sign Diaz. Have McIlrath as a midseason call-up if his game progresses.

Kane helps with the Rangers' size and grit issues.

Kreider-Stepan-Nash
Kane-Miller-MSL
Pouliot-Brass-Zucc
Boyle/Carcillo/Lindberg-Moore-Dorsett

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Klein
Allen-Diaz/McIlrath

King
Prince

Would you sacrifice center depth and move forward with the current group of forwards plus whatever prospects break camp and take a look at Mike Green joining our D-Corps to add some offense?

no...

i think we need to look in the draft for a decent PMD... hope we strike oil with a later round draft pick

I'm far more concerned with the lack of offense from the blueline than I am about the center situation.

The only center I'd trade for Mike Green is Brad Richards.

I don't think we make another big move in the offseason, I think MSL was our big move for the next 1.5 calendar years. That means no to Kane, Moulson, Stastny, Boyle, the lot. It will be tough enough to fit everyone even with a buyout of Broadway Brad.
