so anyone else comfortable with Brassard at # 2 C now? buyout Richards and next yr with no add ons and some resigns is

Kreider, Stepan, Nash
Zuccarello, Brassard, MSL
Hagelin, Miller, Fast/Pouliott
Carcillo, Moore, Dorsett

Need a kid or two to step up IMO. UFAs get paid too much

Still soft and undersized in the top-9. Especially because counting on Miller to fill that role is a fantasy at this point. This team needs more pushback outside of the 4th line. Zuccarello is a warrior, but him shoving and slashing after the play isn't enough. Kreider is getting there, but this team needs another guy who can play the crash-and-bang game in the top-9. They lost a lot of balance when they made the Callahan trade.

Speed and skill is great, but in typical Glen Sather fashion, we're moving from one extreme to the other. I wouldn't be shocked to see a guy like Hagelin moved for a grittier forward with some size.

Agreed.

I think the playoffs will be a wakeup call that exposes this weakness.

In typical Sather fashion, he will go overboard the other way and we'll find ourselves with a top 9 filled with baboons in October 2014.

People pencil miller in because it's better than being stuck with Richard's albatross contract in the same spot. Assuming Sather doesn't pull a Sather and keep him there for Marty's sake.

Who else would you pick up, or put there? Miller is a natural center, should slot in easily, and is also cheap. I don't think 4th line minutes would be the best for his development. Perhaps growing pains is the best situation here.

Who would I pick to put in there? Neither of them.

He should slot in easily? Have you heard what the coach has had to say about him?

Why is it either/or?

I would bring Pouliot back if his demands aren't outrageous. He developed a new dimension to his game that not many of us thought he had. He's become a nice middle six winger with some size. 30 points is awesome for a middle six forward, despite what the NHL video gaming dream team making pundits would say.

I'd say if the Rangers retain him and Kreider comes back healthy, we're fine size wise. Boston's team isn't that much bigger than ours. They just play bigger.

I feel like you're literally not reading anything I've written. And yes, I heard what AV said, and don't think that because he's a coach, that makes his word the be all end all.

I never said it was either/or, you kept saying that. I was explaining why people slot him in most often.

Also, you never answered my question of who you'd look at for the spot.

I support the idea of bringing in a Marcel Goc type and have him compete with Moore for the 3C spot.

I agree. As always there no such thing as moderation

I agree with bringing Pouliot back, but Idon't agree they are find with the physical play they have gotten this year. Kreider and Pouliot can not be the only physical presences in the top-9.

I support the idea of bringing in a Marcel Goc type and have him compete with Moore for the 3C spot.

What about someone like Steve Ott? The team needs to address the lack of physical presence throughout the line-up somehow.

I'd bring back Carcillo as well. Solid depth forward.

Kreider-Stepan-MSL
Pouliot-Brassard-Nash
Hagelin-Ott-MZA
Rookie/Carcillo/UFA-Moore/UFA/Rookie-Dorsett
Carcillo/UFA

Carl Hagelin is a nice player. To me though, he's so infuriating. He has such great speed and hockey IQ, but he lacks finish around the net and is prone to handling the puck like a grenade. He would be a superstar if he had better hands.

Those two things will hold him back from being a true top 6 forward. He's a really nice middle six forward, but nothing more. I think he's peaked already. I'm absolutely with Tricks Jew (sorry, can't resist :D) when it comes to trading Hagelin for someone with a bit more snarl that can play with Richards/Miller/UFA and MSL.

EDIT: Ott sucks. Guy's finished. 0 goals, 2 assists in 19 games with the Blues, and a -11. Ouch. I would rather keep Boyle and D. Moore.

Why? What is overpaid? Obviously my interest is only viable if the contract is in line.
I think anything over 3 years and 2.5 million per is gross for Ott, and he'll get well above that.

If Ott was to be a middling free agent, I would have some interest. But for whatever reason, he's a guy who's constantly overvalued, IMO.

I would do 3 years and 2.5 million for Ott. Boyle will get that easily on the open market. Same with Goc. He can play center or LW and add some physicality to the top-9. Leader. Hard worker.

I know sometimes it seems like I am pushing for more truculence but I really don't see anyone, outside of McIlrath who can dole out punishment on a consistent basis. Those guys can be factors in the playoffs when teams have to deal with the bumps and bruises they cause.
