Sather can't lowball Zuccarello. The player is arbitration eligible. Brassard too. Kreider is also arg eligible. Those players have all of the leverage. Zuccarello and Brassard are one year away from group III. Kreider is 4 years away.

Brian Boyle spoke to Larry Brooks about his contract

“First and foremost, it’s about winning; when you set your goal at the start of the season, the only one you have is to be on a team that wins, be a part of it and get the opportunity to make a difference,” Boyle told The Post following Monday’s morning skate at the Garden, hours before the Blueshirts’ match at the Garden. “So whatever I can do at this point to make sure we get in [the playoffs], that’s what matters.

“But I’m also using my contract situation as motivation,” said the 29-year-old, who is working on the final year of a three-year, $5.1 million deal. “I tried to see what was up [regarding an extension], and they wanted to push it back, so being a free agent at the end of the season, I want to play well.

“It’s a huge incentive from a personal standpoint. There’s a lot on the line.”

His agent is Paul Krepelka. He also represents Marc Staal. The Rangers want to wait. Boyle will a better offer in free agency. Prust got a better offer in free agency. 4 years and $10M. The Rangers best and final offer was 3 years and $6M. Prust is hurt again. Boyle is a better player than Prust. More durable. The Rangers probably know they won't be able to afford Boyle. They can replace him with a cheaper player.

EJ Hradek was answering a twitter question on NHL Live yesterday about Ryan Callahan. Hradek said he knows the TB really likes Callahan and he could re-sign there. It won't be cheap. Hradek doesn't see the Rangers and Callahan getting back together. Craig Custance of ESPN wrote about Callahan last week. He listed three teams with Callahan. Buffalo,TB and SJ. Buffalo is close to home. TB likes having him on their team. SJ wanted Callahan at the deadline. Hopefully,Callahan stays in TB and the Rangers get their 2nd in 2015 with the Rangers sending TB their 7th in 2015. No state income tax in Florida. 10%.

Boyle is a tough player to value because he is elite defensively but so horribly inept offensively. About as polarized as it gets, its like he forgets how to use his stick in the offensive zone.

its weird because Boyle was actually a good scorer at the AHL level. scored 30 goals :amazed:

The Rangers found their #1 D which all teams need to win a championship. Ryan McDonagh. Last night Dave Maloney was discussing how McD is better than Subban and Karlsson because Ryan is a 3 zone player. He can defend while the other two players aren't very good defending. Both of them are the last 2 Norris Trophy winners. I would say in all of my years of watching Ranger hockey,McDonagh is the second best D to play for the Rangers behind #2 Brian Leetch. McDonagh is twice the defender Leetch was. James Patrick was a very good player. Sergei Zubov had a great year in 93-94. Brad Richards was talking about the evolution of McD last night. No more defend and defend. Dan Girardi was saying how AV wants the D to contribute offensively and Ryan is the only D who has done that. If the Rangers can get Johnny Moore to play with a little more confidence,he is the perfect 3rd lefty behind McDonagh and Staal. The Hawks have Keith,Oduya and Leddy on the left side. In the finals,Keith was double shifting playing with Seabrook and Rozsival. Leddy was benched. McD can do that. Staal has more offense to give. Del Zotto was supposed to be offensive guy. What happened to that guy? Trotz is the saying the same things AV said. Too bad the Rangers waited too long to move him before other teams found out he couldn't play. Is Nashville qualifying him at $2.9M? Arb eligible. On the other hand,Staal being injured didn't give the Rangers an opportunity to trade DZ.

McDonagh is a stud, but I question the idea of him ever winning a Norris. The Norris has become a trophy for the highest scoring defender in the NHL. I don't see that ever happening for Ryan. Ryan Suter should have run away with that trophy last year, but they went with the flashy guy instead. Subban was 6th amongst his own team in SHTOI last year. What a stud.

Subban over Suter was a joke. The fact that Letang was a norris trophy is proof that actually playing defense has nothing to do with the trophy.

it seems like this year the fans are rebelling a bit on the all offense dmen. outside of keith, the top point scoring dmen get **** on by most fanbases.

Yes, and look at Kris Newberry. Almost at the top of the pointlist in AHL year after year.

yea but everytime Newbury comes to the NHL, its 4th line not the 1st or 2ed line like the AHL.. if your a 1st liner in the AHL, when you play on the 4th line in the NHL, most of the time you will look out of place.

maybe Boyle should be on the wing with Nash :sarcasm:

His shot is just so inconsistent..or maybe I should say is consistently awful that it is amazing to see him shoot the puck like when he scored 20 goals. I think he gets a good wrist shot off like 1/25 shots and the occasional slap shot I find myself shocked at how good it looks.

If there is one guy that is going to get an over valued contract this season as an UFA its Brian Boyle... he will be in demand, and he will be in demand from contenders. I would be shocked if he got anything less than 4 years... and I would be shocked if it wasn't for $2.5M at the least.

He does a lot of things winning teams need, and when the games get tighter, he is one of those guys that thrives in a heavy brand of hockey. He doesn't fit this system and hasn't looked out of place, but on a team like Boston or Stl, Boyle will be a big time asset. My feeling is that MTL, STL, CHI and BOS go hard after him. He fits their systems to a tee and would be an upgrade on those rosters.

With Handzus getting up there, the Hawks need a center with size to go up against the jumbos out west. Boyle will hit pay dirt.

Every grinder that's come up in this organization is gone in favor of a more finesse Detroit/Euroleague type, and Boyle is the last of his kind on this team. He's gone and he knows it.

Karlsson at least has shown he can put up 70-80 points, though. That almost offsets his defense, which is definitely mediocre.

Karlsson is also all over the place defensively.

He can make, and often makes, absolute elite defensive plays. Mixed up with break downs.

But I agree with you, his offense is so good that it off-sets a lot of his flaws defensively.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, gotta go after Jason Spezza.

Brassard
McIlrath
Dorsett
3rd

for

Spezza
5th

Zucc - Spezza - St. Louis
Hagelin - Stepan - Nash
Pouliot - Miller - Fast
Carcillo - Moore - Boyle

No Kreider?

Maybe with Kreider out, Boyle will finally get his chance.... :sarcasm:

Spezza is 30 and injury prone. Just no.

Edit: Only acceptable trade for these established older #1 centers has to include Nash.

McDonagh-Girardi
Staal-Klein
Moore-?

Stralman turned down the Rangers offer of 3 years/$9M. Brooks reported that and Stralman's agent told Pat Leonard that the report wasn't true. Was it less than 3 years/$9M? More? Looking at the free agent list,Stralman should get more than 3 years/$9M. Stalman and his agent see that too.

McIlrath will compete for a spot. Allen.

I have nothing against old and injury prown, if BR is getting bought out. But giving up assets worry me.

Yeah I think Stralman is gone... that 2nd pair has been the worst of the D pairings since the Olympic break. With the game's getting tighter, Anton Stralman isn't proving to be an impact top 4 defenseman.

I think its also safe to say that we've seen the best of Staal's offensive upside. My guess is that they extend Diaz, and break in McIlrath next year.

my guess is this

Staal Girardi
McDonagh Allen
Moore Klein/ McIlrath

And he was also one of the best defenseman in the playoffs besides McD, as well as earlier in the season...how about we see how the rest of the season goes.
