I don't care if Eric Staal have ten 100+ pts seasons and has been twice the player Nash has been.

Watch Carolina play. Is Eric better than Nash today?

I think that is tough to decide. Eric has been really mediocre when I've seen him the last couple of years.

Looking at how much hate Nash gets, I wonder if Eric wouldn't get more.

I'd check the price on Skinner although I hate his concussion history. And the fact that he was a former figure skater ;)

I'd bet on both Ward and Skinner for sure.

Not so sure about the Staals. If its their request, expect a Canadian team, eh ?

Just a guess.
Meh. New York is a lot closer to Thunder Bay than 4/7 Canadian cities. I would guess playing with Marc would be at the top of their list.

*To be clear, Canada has more than 7 cities. That's just those with NHL teams.

Huh, learn something new everyday.

I'm all for getting Skinner, but with the MSL addition I'm not sure how we'd pull it off.

We've agreed one of the team's major problems is lack of clinical finishers, and low shooting %.

if the Rangers get Nieto, they should keep him. but if they get him, it would be a longshot... no way id move him for Staal.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, gotta go after Jason Spezza.

Brassard
McIlrath
Dorsett
3rd

for

Spezza
5th

Lose Zucc and even more prospects that NYR can't afford to lose for another player on a huge contract?

Absolutely not.

The big money guys are set IMO, or at least, they should be: Hank, McD, Girardi, Staal, Nash, MSL. Supplement them with Stepan, Miller, Kreider, Zucc, Hagelin, Klein. Add guys on ELCs or otherwise early contracts that they actually have a chance of playing above their pay grade. That's the way to go forward here without absolutely destroying any chance of a future.

I don't think the MSL trade was as bad as many do, but part of the price of that trade is that this team simply can't trade anymore futures for a while.

Rather not see Zuccarello go to another team and put up 60+ points a year for the next decade.

Do you want a "One that got away"?

Because that's how you get a "One that got away"

The futures that the Rangers give up in that trade consists of Danny Kristo, an impending UFA.

Would you bet on Zuccarello scoring 60 points for the next decade over Staal?

I don't think that proposed deal gets us Staal.

I also think Hfboards, and the Rangers section in general overvalues the value of a top center as compared to a 1B center or a top winger. Probably just because it's the only thing we haven't had of late.

You look at Staal's numbers, he wouldn't be a huge upgrade 1-2 years from now over what I expect Stepan will be. He's a 70 point guy.

I agree. But isn't Staal and Stepan down the middle better than Stepan?

This is Staal-Stepan down the middle at the expense of Stepan-Brassard down the middle with Zuccarello on the wing.

Brassard provides 45-50 points at a hit about half of Eric Staal's. If Zuccarello is signed 4 years 16 million, he can provide 50-65 at half the hit. The only thing you're losing is the potential production of the extra roster spot.

We need to keep some 20's talent on this team. For a decent period, Brassard and Zuccarello were our best pairing and boosted our power play.

I think both Brassard and Zuccarello become much easier to replace when you've got a premium center like Staal.

If Staal helps so much, it begs the question of why Carolina can't win with guys to complement him like Skinner, Semin, Tlusty, and Staal the 3rd.

Staal will be in his 20s for the first month of the season!

Not that I understand why you need players below an arbitrary age.

Also: Zuccarello has tiny bones which tend to get broken.
