I voted for trade him for small package, but that's not really a fair choice as we don't know what the other offer was on the table. The poll makes it sound like we would be trading him for scraps.

No matter how you slice it, we would have been better off long term by trading for younger players and/or picks, rather than trading away picks for a player who may not be here for more than 1.25 years. We wouldn't have been better off THIS year, but it can't always be about this year, especially when THIS year we are nothing more than a bubble playoff team.

Yes, it is. Based on what other rentals were going for, it's completely unreasonable to think they would have gotten much.

Tanner Glass is a UFA this season. If he isn't resigned by the Pens, anyone interested? He's taken good strides as a player. Hits really hard and can PK well.

i think a lot depends on richards situation this summer..

if we keep him.. then obv no big trades/moves..

if we buy him out.. i think we go hard for kesler.. i pray its not stepan and miller

FA id look into seto, raymond, bolig, ott possibly on price gabs again for short deal 1 or 2yr deal

It will, without question, have to involve Stepan or Miller if we want Kesler.

No Kesler pls.

no.. he is horrible. i want Rangers to develop their own type of player, like Jarred Boll for the Jackets :help:

or someone like Matt Martin. Rangers should be able to develop these type of players.. they are available in the draft

After Rupp and Asham experiments, would be nice to get a tough player before they are completely washed up.

So many people lament about how we can't get a top notch forward because of the lack of a top 5 pick.

Someone needs to tell me why, with all those other picks, the organization cant develop these tough guys.

I wouldn't put Rupp in the same sentence as Asham. Asham was a semi-useful player and scored a big goal game 7 last year against the Caps. Rupp had the winter classic.

Bollig resigned with Chicago already and Tom Sestito is beyond worthless

We don't draft them. Simple. Look at our draft selections over the past decade and you'll notice a lack of player selections in the 3rd and 4th round (where these guys are usually chosen) that project to be tough, gritty forwards. Maybe Weise?

Defenseman is different with Noreau, McIlrath, and now Graves, but it seems Sather prefers to buy theses forwards rather than draft them.

I was bored yesterday at work and was trying to fine a couple of bigger bodied, tough forwards who could come in and supplement the 4th line a bit this offseason.

Carcillo has played well. I'd try and resign him.

Dorsett is, very plainly, not an AV player. See what you can get for him.

Shawn Thornton is 36. Not a viable option.

Daniel Winnik is a big bodied hard nosed winger.

Bollig and Reaves re-signed.

People like Boyle and Moore, would anyone consider bringing back John Mitchell as the 4c? Good skater, strong on his skates, good PKer.

It sure seems like Fast and Miller will be on the team next year. Both are pretty much ready. Miller will add a bit of size if he plays like he should.

Mike Brown? Steve Ott?

Would LA be willing to move Clifford?

Carcillo-Moore/Boyle/Mitchell-Clifford

No matter what happens, this team will have a skill-heavy lineup but they need to find a way to get a couple more guys willing to engage and dole out physical punishment.

It blows my mind that they can't develop a couple of these players...

Mitchell is very good when he plays like a 4th liner. It's when he tries to do more he fails. I haven't watched him lately, but I did catch a few games after he went to the Avs, and it didn't take long before he went from Johnny Mitchell to Johnny Malkin. I used to drop by their boards from time to time and they would complain about the same things we did.

I would much rather keep Boyle and Moore, unless he has significantly changed his game since.

My problem with the Rangers' 4th line is that simply it is an offensive black hole. They do a lot of good things but for a team that has trouble scoring, that line gets minutes and is not a threat offensively. Dorsett and Carcillo can platoon for the tough guy type. Whoever stays between Moore and Boyle is your center, but I would not keep both. For the third slot I try to get a guy that can at least keep teams honest offensively.

I also think Hagelin needs to be traded for size. He still has value and a lot of the other guys are locked onto certain lines and certain roles. He is the obvious guy to move in order to get a decent return. A second line LW type would be terrific and you probably can find a team that would trade a big guy for speed.

Assuming Richards is bought out, I go with Stepan/Brassard/Miller at C until I am forced not to, and go for a C in 2015 when MSL is off the cap. Probably can't get Toews but maybe Krejci makes it to FA and you can make a move there.

Thought of the day: If you could get Jordan Staal for a similar package that Vancouver wanted for Ryan Kesler do you do it? Could guarantee keeping Marc too.

I hate spending free agent dollars on 4th liners. If they cant develop one or two of them (which they havent been able to), I'd rather pluck a guy off the scrap heap like Carcillo.

Yup. It takes a little bit of scouting but these guys can be found for nothing. Gadzic was a nice pick up for the Oilers. Played out his ELC, had to clear waivers this year and didn't. Peluso on WPG, Sabourin in the LA system. All under 25. They're out there.

Tanner Glass is one of the worst "hockey" players in the NHL.

Just resign Carcillo and Moore and potentially Boyle, depending on the price.

The 1st two will come rather cheap and have been very good for us this year.

We need a top 6 center, that should be our main focus, whether via trade or FA, the latter is unlikely, but maybe bring in a stop-gap like Grabo for next year.

Also, I would like to strengthen our top end LW position. I like Pouliot, but possibly consider upgrading on him.

I think the three offensive spots that should be up for grabs next year are:

Boyles
Richards
Pouliots

Other then that, I like our lineup as is.

Moore has the offensive ability you are talking about while doing everything else well. I would resign Moore, even Carcillo has looked pretty good cycling the puck and shooting. So that would leave 1 spot on the 4th line if you resign them both.

There is also Lindberg who should be able to play a 4th line C role....but I know many people would rather him have minutes in the AHL playing a more important role

Edit: Recently Hagelin has been shooting the puck pretty well, just not finishing. He needs to continue to improve his shot if he is going to be effective
