@NYP_Brooksie: Not quite stepping out on limb here but told it could go either way with Callahan. Tampa asking for young guys with Callahan for StLouis.

I'd be OK with that depending on who "young guys" are. Miller/Kreider are no deal, Kristo/Lindberg is a deal, and McI/Fast are borderline... Probably would pull the trigger on the former but not the latter.

I am finding it difficult to articulate this. I am OK with the Rangers acquiring Marty St Louis (even if Hagelin and/or a 1st go). I would hate to see Hagelin go but understand. However this must coincide with Callahan being traded. Whether it's part of the St Louis deal or in another deal. I guess realistically, if the Rangers lose draft picks in the potential deal with Tampa Bay, I would hope they recoup some picks in a separate deal. Plus St. Louis has one more year left at 5 and change for one more year. The cap space flexibility with St. Louis and Callahan (and possibly Brad Richards) off the roster is the prize in my opinion. (Even if it means saying goodbye to Hagelin).

I like Msl, but there's no way in hell I'm giving up cally + young assets for a 38 year old. He has at best a couple years left

The board is doing it again, fascination with an older player and willing to give up all the youth they have to acquire it.

I have nothing but respect for MSL. He has a few goodyears in him but giving up Hagelin for him? No way.

It's a sick joke. Groundhog Day.

Heard we acquired Ned Ryerson for Cally, straight up

I have been one of those advocating resigning Cally. But, I must say that any trade that includes ceding a first round pick is beyond absurd. The very thought of not having a first round pick for two consecutive drafts will cause long term harm. This from someone who has often thought that while you always must plan for the future but can't neglect the present. I have wanted to either resign or keep Cally because of the present.

I would love to have MSL, but to trade a first round pick and, or, other young assets is a major mistake. In this case, long term trumps short term.

Lindberg would hurt quite a bit.

For sure, but having MSL would help quite a bit. Have to give to get... I don't watch Hartford that often though, so I might be off in what I'm thinking these guys are worth.

Also don't know if I see a spot for Lindberg next year unless he's the 4C, it's likely Stepan-Brassard-Miller-Boyle/Moore/Lindberg, and I'd like to see Moore resigned if it's a reasonable contract.

Those young players had better not be Miller, Fast, or Lindberg.

Miller, I agree...

The others are not in that category. For MSL, you let them pick, ship with Cally and thank your lucky stars.

You get elite scorer (albeit old), and more importantly, don't have to give $6mm+ X 6 to a grinder.

I fully expect MSL to be a Ranger today, and if not it wont be for lack of trying. This is what the Rangers have always done

You can never have too many centers. I would rather trade Kristo and McL over Lindberg. Skjei I don't know about.

A center can play wing. A wing can't play center. Keep the center.

I really like Fast and Lindberg. I don't want to trade them for a 38 year old, no matter how great he is.
