I find it terribly ironic that the posters in other threads who **** on the 2014 draft have a problem with the Rangers dangling a 1st round pick.

Not to mention the fact that Rangerboy went from not wanting to resign Callahan (and personally attacking posters that disagreed with him) to saying the Rangers should resign him...

If the Rangers can trade Callahan and picks for MSL they have to make the trade.....

Is MZA in play for MSL or are the posts on the past few pages just a bad game of telephone?

We need MSL, or should we keep doing the same old routine? Shoot 1000 pucks on goal in order to make 5 goals.

MSL would make us a contender right away. And that he is 38 and must make it now or never is a plus for us since he's still got it. He want the cup really bad and he wants to be a Ranger. He will be a huge inspiration to the other guys and make them believe - I think. The only thing that concerns me a tiny bit is that he could be a lot better on defense, but oh well...

Don't see any cup happen with Cally though.

What does it being an Olympic year have to do with anything? More games than usual remaining in the regular season?

Because teams were apprehensive making big moves before the olympics. Then you only had about a week after the olympics for movement.

Its just a scheduling thing.

MZA has not been rumored.

He really doesn't.

Still need a #1 center. He's a RW, our strongest position.

It's not keep him vs. "get something for him"

Keeping him for a playoff run has value.

Keeping him for a playoff run and then seeing if there is a team who might want trade a pick for his rights so they can try to sign him prior to 7/1 has value.

Keeping him for a playoff run and maybe he comes down from his demands and re-signs at a more reasonable price tag has value.

The "bag of pucks" arguments is just silly and short-sighted.
Like all "bag of pucks" arguments, it was also made half-jokingly

Why would you think that he want to trade MZA for MSL? Defeats the whole purpose of trading for MSL.

Does it? If he really thinks the Rangers are ready to go for it this year, MZA probably is the winger that makes the most sense (if you disregard that you need to trade away Callahan).

He's a similar player to MSL but worse in every facet. MZA is younger and on a dead cheap contract, but he's also about to start his final RFA year, is arb eligible and will get a big raise. With both guys on the team, one of them would be playing third line minutes.

Zuccarello also averages more missed games pr season than MSL has for his entire career.

If you're making a run this year, it's not a dumb move. I don't think they are anywhere close to looking at a cup run, but you never know how Sather sees it.

Assuming most of us have been fans for quite a while, why is it surprising to see mgmt. focus on the shiny new toy? When has it ever been any different?

Not even telephone. Just pure speculation for absolutely no reason.

Is there a plan today?

Because it sure seems like Sather woke up this morning prepared to wing it when it comes to critical decisions that will effect this organization for years to come.

There hasn't been a plan since the 2012 ECF loss. All we've seen since then is a 2/3 turnover of the whole team every six months.

This is Glen Sather. Sign Callahan, trade Callahan, do nothing with Callahan. He has no idea. Not to mention that Stralman has not been dealt with AT ALL.

@NYP_Brooksie: Not quite stepping out on limb here but told it could go either way with Callahan. Tampa asking for young guys with Callahan for StLouis.

EXACTLY why I am pissed off this morning.

Like moths to a flame, the Rangers are always captivated by the big ticket splash.

The farm system stinks. The prospects of winning a Stanley Cup this year? Not good. How are we not spinning off expiring contracts for futures? How is the team hooked on a 38 year old player?

It's a sick joke. Groundhog Day.
