#Lightning ask from #Rangers remains extremely high 4 Marty St Louis. Probability is he finishes yr out in TB, Yzerman revisits @ #NHL draft

Better for us in the long run. Doesn't look like it's going to be a great draft but the Rangers can't continue to trade off their higher end picks. They've got to rebuild the farm a bit. No team is going to sustain respectability if they don't have a pipeline of youth they can fall back on--that can push the regulars for jobs and help out with cap flexibility.

Rangers have 0 guys I can see who are going to graduate from the CHL, the colleges or Europe to the professional ranks next year which is almost unheard of. As well Rangers may be cutting loose a lot of minor pros for the coming year--where the replacements are coming from I don't know but my guess is they'll sign some undrafted CHL and college players and a few older AHL types to give their AHL team some stability.

I think the price goes down for MSL after this year's playoffs. TB can take him to one more playoffs in 14-15 but at the risk of getting no return for him. If other teams figure he's heading for the Rangers anyway it brings down his price as a rental next year-if only marginally.

I don't see this year's Rangers team as a legit contender and the game against Boston would be a good example of why. Got to grind for 60 minutes and keep the score down to beat the Bruins. Rangers don't have enough size, talent and grit to stay with a team like that.

You're not going to get anyone without offering fair value.

The reason Pierre said he'd ask for Kreider, McDonagh, or Skjei is because he doesn't have to trade MSL and he is only dealing with one team. Which really kind of screws him, but he can be as stubborn and demanding as he wants. He has nothing to lose.

Depends how you see it. Having an important player in the locker room who doesn't want to be there when you're pushing for or going in to the playoffs, could hurt the team. It could depreciate his value. He could decide to retire if he isn't traded and you end up getting nothing back.

Yeah, that was the point. It wasn't all that crazy in context.

Lot of things could happen, he's been earning his money and is one of the hottest players in the league since his snub. He's not just going to stop playing, this is a guy who had to work very hard to get where he is and still has a chip on his shoulder. You want him now if you can get him.

Pierre is on drugs

He went from Kreider to McDonagh to Skjei LOL
cant believe he mention Kreider or Mactruck. Those guys are pretty much off limits unless it for a Crosby/Ovechkin/Stamkos type player. I like MSL but he is 38

As someone from the team said, today either brings what could be the deadline’s biggest blockbuster or nothing at all.”(Damian Cristodero)

Would I be wrong in thinking that Sather would pay more now than in the offseason? He would get one less playoff w St. Louis... Plus and older player.

Seems like if Stevie Y wants max return he'd move him now or just keep him for the contract term. If he moves him in the offseason he's just a 38 yr old rental.

Not really. They don't necessarily need a size "arms race" against the Bruins. That game showed the Rangers need more finish. The Rangers exposed the lack of mobility from the Bruins blue line, but didn't take advantage of their chances.

So much short term thinking. I want no part of MSL. Love him, great player, but he won't be worth whatever it will cost to get him.

No you're not wrong, his value is highest right now. It will only go down from here, Sather may decide he doesn't want to trade anything for him this offseason and just wait to sign him when his contract runs out to a cheapish deal if he is needed.

Just pointing out that Yzer actually has something to lose and that not trading him could prove costly. It's easy to say he won't stop playing, but it wouldn't be the first time an athlete - even if he's known to professional through and through - starts performing poorly when he's not happy at his team.

These things affect players and I wouldn't be surprised to see him start slumping. Yzer is aware of the risk. Who knows if he's willing to take it.

Yep. Unless the trade package is somewhat reasonable(probably won't be); than I don't see a point.

I mean if they can get him for a steal, great. But that aint going to happen.

Like I said anything is possible, I doubt MSL would do that not for Yzerman, but for his team the fans and his own legacy. I'd be surprised. Your point is valid and I've mentioned it myself before but I think it's a less significant part of the big picture.

Anyone know where i can get a stream this morning, TSN one says only for Canada.

So was the goal to beat them 7-6? That is the only way that strategy works. When the Bruins were clicking the Rangers were unable to win the puck in the offensive or defensive zone. At times they looked like little kids running back and forth as their older brothers played keep away with their ball. The Rangers have been generating chances in spurts, and looked dominant against teams built the
same way they are OR big & slow teams. Big teams with skill give them real problems with being able to keep the puck in the offensive zone for extended periods.

The price should be high. If the shoe was on the other foot,Ranger fans would be demanding Stamkos in exchange for Callahan. The Rangers need to re-sign Callahan.
