It's already confirmed that St. Louis wants another contract. So he'll have the year and a half we are trading for plus probably another 2-3 years. And I doubt he rakes us over the coals with a contract.

Yep. He wants to be here. He'll likely be signing a safe 2'ish year deal for relatively cheap just to retire here.

3 or 4 more years of MSL, as long as he stays in shape, isn't a bad thing. I'd take this current deal if we can recoup picks for some of our lesser players (ie. Boyle).

This is the only reason I"m happy with this trade. Rather let go of a 1st rounder then keep Callahan at 6 million+ for 6 years.

Losing the picks is bad, but it's better than losing prospects who are close to being impact players in Rangers sweaters. I hope this doesn't mean we keep Richards, he has to go, that contract is too toxic.

I wonder if some of the impetus behind dropping picks is management being high on our three third rounders last year. Could easily get another second or third and make "swing for the fences" picks again.

Tradecentre - Ferraro, Aaron Ward, and I believe Marty Biron was on before. A lot of former Rangers. McGuire - says deal makes Rangers a dangerous team. He thinks this will be huge for Brad Richards.
