Now we're using our noggins. We have some extra assets that we can use to recoup some picks. It's possibly the first move the Rangers make but likely not the last one.

Barbara - yes!! I agree. Last year when we traded those picks for Clowe, and with the RFA's last summer (Hagelin, Zuccarello, Stepan), I thought for sure we'd see some players for picks. I hope other trades will get us some 2nd and 3rd rounders.

Slightly better than two firsts.

Still a crap ton of assets for a 38 year old with one year left on his deal

No official confirmations (yet) but hearing NYR are prepared to trade Callahan, plus 1st rd pick and 2nd rd pick for Marty St. Louis. Close.

Thats not bad if thats how it goes down.

Rangers can recoup that 1st round pick.

1st + 2nd + Cally isnt too bad when you also consider this means we wont have cally at a 6m+ cap hit for the next 6 years as well.

Martin St. Louis is probably my 2nd favorite non-Ranger in the league. I've dreamed about the Rangers having him, but to see him traded for another of my favorite players...bittersweet.

I'm usually a big proponent of keeping draft picks. I don't think losing those picks for 3-4 years of MSL is that big a deal, though. He's 10th in the league in scoring. You think he's going to drop off a cliff next year? He'll be a very good player for at least 3 more years if he wants to be.

It's already confirmed that St. Louis wants another contract. So he'll have the year and a half we are trading for plus probably another 2-3 years. And I doubt he rakes us over the coals with a contract.

My thoughts here, too, Sting. It's a cold day when we are on the same page, though.

Yeah IDK why they didn't try recoup those picks.

But Callahan a late 1st in a weak draft and a 2nd is a steal for MSL.

Joke that management thinks the Rangers are that much of ****ing contenders

Don't even have a lock on a playoff spot

I don't understand. Its not that bad. Rangers can recoup that first round pick. So its most likely Cally + a 2nd.

I'm not big on getting MSL. But thats not a bad trade.
