It's already confirmed that St. Louis wants another contract. So he'll have the year and a half we are trading for plus probably another 2-3 years. And I doubt he rakes us over the coals with a contract.
Love it... sure we lose a first, but we gain the reigning Art Ross trophy winner and we don't have to get ripped off by Captain Intangibles.
love it.
I agree with this, but they are also built because they went through years and years of being lottery pick teams like pittsburgh, chicago, and st louis. Or trading you assets like Phil Kessel, Jeff Carter.
You are either a top team an re-tool or a bottom team and rebuild through the draft

Confirming Martin St-Louis is traded to the Rangers for Ryan Callahan. #lightning #tvasports
Yes. MSL is a better player than Cally and will be cheaper. I don't want to pay Cally that kind of money 4 years from now, regardless of what the cap is.
Is he still going to feel that way 2 summers from now? Is he still going to want to play for the Rangers? The guy is going to be 40 when his contract is up, and I'm sure he'll get butthurt if we buy out Richards. Or does Sather keep him to appease MSL?
This is a bad idea no matter how you slice it. We aren't winning a cup with MSL this year or next, and after that there are no guarantees.
This is just the same old, same old with the Rangers. Go for the big names instead of having patience and building a team that can compete for the cup year after year. It's always about winning now.
And when we don't win anything with MSL and he walks in 2015 and we get nothing for him, what then?
We just traded a UFA to be who wants an insane contract, a late 1st, and a late 2nd for the reigning Art Ross winner and the scoring leader in the NHL who is one of the top players in the league today who makes less than Cally, is under contract, and wants to be here. That's a pretty good deal in my opinion. What are the odds that the picks turn into good players?
