How would everyone feel about Connor Allen going somewhere with Cally. Could get us a bigger package. Young D-man with 5-6 potential and a 2nd line winger. Im a fan of Allen but we have a little bit of a log jam on D right now.

So the Rangers re-sign Callahan, and then trade for St. Louis? MSL/Nash/Zucc/Callahan all prefer, and are the most effective, on the RW. What sense would it make to have all of those guys playing the same position?

It worked out fine with Nash, Gaborik, and Callahan

....oh wait....:sarcasm:

I wish Sather would chase down Vanek... I mean how much could it cost to get him? and keep him?

I think Allen has higher potential than a 5-6.

That being said, i would move him for the right piece.

Our two nearly untouchable prospects in my opinion, should be, Skjei and Miller. Everyone else can be had, but for specific prices.

Miller and Skjei I would only move for a fantastic player.

Certainly seems like Callahan is behind Moulson, Vanek, and Gaborik on the pecking order. We need some deals to drop.

Which one?

Gomez
Holik
Redden
Drury
Lindros
Fleury
Richards
Kotalik
Zherdev
Kaspiritis
Roszival
Brashear
Boogaard
Rupp

How about....

Ethan Wreck
Evgeny Grachev
Michael Del Zotto
Antoine Lafleur
Bob Sanguinetti
Brodie Dupont
Lauri Korpikoski
Al Montoya
Hugh Jessiman
Ivan Baranka
Lee Falardeau
Jamie Lundmark
Pavel Brendl
Randy Copley
Stefan Cherneski

Did these assets help in the future?

A lot, and a lot. $7M+ for at least 7 years I'd bet. Can't see the Islanders trading him here unless they get stiffed by other teams who go for Kesler, Moulson, Cammalleri, etc.

At least he fills a positional need though. An upgrade on the LW.

MSL plays a position the Rangers are strong at. While he has been productive, past performance is not indicative of future results. He is 38. He has a risk of deteriorating at any time.

And he does not help to alter the mix of this team. They don't match up with the teams that are big & skilled that they will need to beat to be a Cup contender. This is less a knock on Marty (he is a PO performer) and more a knock on what the Rangers are choosing to spend assets on.

You want to trade Cally, Kristo, and a 2nd? Fine.

I agree with this. Martin St.Louis seems to be a terrific player. But he's sort-of a better version of what the Rangers already have. Doesn't make this team any different to face. Or, at least, not much different. I would be glad to get him on the NYR but he wouldn't be my top target. It's just that he's (seemingly) available.
Rangers should be looking for a policeman who can play in the top-nine. And a defenseman with a crazy-rocket of a shot.
I'm also of the opinion that it wouldn't be too bad to just let Cally play-out the string and talk in the summer. Even though he's definitely playing scared (to stay healthy) in anticipation of his big deal. I think he'll step-it-up and maybe even get a deal done in the summer.

Hope Broduer gets dealt, doesnt play a single game and doesnt make the playoffs.

All of that selfish karma over his career comes around.

true. Might be better off overpaying him in FA if that is the case. We'd have the cap space and raw resources to do it no problem...

I'd taken Vanek for $7M/6Y over Callyhan @ $7M/6Y
